Mimir actually DOES mention Nimue by name in this game after Kratos gets his spear. And when he does so, he pretty much confirms that Arthurian Lore exists in the God Of War universe. And from what Mimir says about her, it sounds like at this point in time, she's actually in the process of forging Excalibur.
in celtic myth
@@fernosbonos5394 Mimir is actually a celtic character, innit?
@@TheWarchiefZekeJaeger Yeah. He's Puck.
Its because in all likelyhood mimir himself is a fomorian
Anybody figure out the symbol she created with blood of Kratos? Not the obvious one...the second one
The Lady of the Forge might just as well be wondering why a Greek God of War is visiting Svartalfheim. I think it’s meant to show that like Kratos himself, others can travel between mythologies. The choice of mermaid and kelpie were nice touches since they come from geographically nearby regions. It def feels like something right out of a Neil Gaiman playbook.
I also think it’s significant that a creature not of this mythology is the only one able to create a weapon that can kill gods of this mythology. It’s something from outside of Norse knowledge that Heimdall isn’t able to see coming.
That makes sense, I like your theory and the foreign weapon idea. Just like how in GoW 2018 Kratos needed his Blades to burn the enemies of Hel as no fire can burn there.
I think you're right but I don't think she's a reference to greek mythology but to Arthurian mythos. Kratos seems to be surprised that mermaids here can do that, so mermaids in Greece can't forge weapons like this and Mimir later on mentions Nimue, a character fro Arthurian mythos. Plus look at how they call her; "The Lady" or "The Lady of the Forge", you know what that reminds me of ? It reminds me of the Lady of the Lake.
hehe. time to battle christ and the apostles
@@paxtheskeleton6636 nobody said she's a reference to greek mythology
@@sebastianb.3978 there’s mermaids in Greek mythology.
One of my favourite scenes in the game. Brock's blessing was perfect.
Such a beautiful scene. I cried. True Story lol
Its honestly a great pay off. After 2 games of upgrading your weapons, it just made sense that Kratos would recognize Brok and Sindri as master craftsmen at that point, and to see Brok respond with seriousness to Kratos' show of respect instead of his usual snarkiness? It was heart warming.
A true bro moment between em.
The Lady might be a hint for the next God of War game. During the God of War (2018), there was a missing panel from a Jotnar shrine that was found in Helheim - it was a cutscene where Mimir tells Kratos and Atreus about Tyr's travel from other lands. There were four symbols which indicates war from these lands; at the top left of the panel was the Eye of Horus which means Egypt, below that was a Japanese symbol, at the top right was the Greek symbol omega, and below it, was Celtic. The creators of the game said that Ragnarok is the end of the Norse saga but it does not mean that the game itself ends there. The next game will possibly dwell on the Celtic mythology - although its just a theory.
Already hinted the next one will be asian mythos. Not sure which one though
@@jamaruperi5715 when was it hinted?
i am sure the next one would be rgyptian or celtic! :S but maybe for celtic is a bit too early :S the whole arthgurian base is at the middle of the medieaval age :S and i am sure the ragnarok happened between 0-300
cause sparta vs persia happened at bc 480 (around) in that time kratos vs the champion of the gods :S
and probably he was a god around 200 years and we know he spend around 200 years after the final war between him and olympus :S soo rougly the whole norse saga happened between bc 50 to ac 200!!!
so even his age around 500 or maybe 600... :S
so the point maybe first it will be the egyptians or even multple lands (with atreus)
i mean the last picture is totaly showed what future kratos will have :S
@@Tekeysix a interview done with the producer of the game. He stated that the animations that the real Týr does in the locations you found him are hinting towards the next game. Most of the animations he does are Tai Chi poses and so. Some youtubers made vids about it already
The creators originally wanted to make game with the Egypt pantheon, but they decided that the Norse one would be better. It is possible they already have some ideas for the Egypt trilogy ready. I would bet that the story would continue that way.
I absolutely like the fact that they make the lady of the lake as a aquatic or amphibious creature
I love the fact that only white people have fetishes
@@lindamasha3552dead wrong
This isn't actually the lady of the lake we know from Arthurian legend. That one is actually named Nimue which Mimir mentions in the game is very good with swords (alluding to her creating Excalibur). This one just seems to be a nameless mermaid/water nymph in order to showcase that particular race and potentially be an implication that celtic myth isn't too far off in the future
Also the lady of the lake gave Geralt his dope ass sword
Aerondight
I like the whole designs on her, especially with the glowing outlines. She reminds me of the Lady of the Lake in the online rpg Wizard101 who's also a purple mermaid. There was also a short lived Netflix series called Cursed of her being Merlin's daughter and a fey. She was also the original wielder of the sword Excalibur before Arthur. Had the show continued, then she would've become the Lady of the Lake.
She reminds me of Sylvary from GW2.
omg yes the lady of the lake from wizard101 was so cool. I loved how she became a member of the Council of Light.
You do mean, the _next Lady of the Lake? Merlin's faerie lover was Nimue, the actual Lady of the Lake.
@@ptolemeeselenion1542 In the show Nimue was his daughter. Plus the Lady of the Lake in Legacies was also fishy looking too, with blue skin that changed to sea green by the lighting of the area. Blue eyes on both her irises and sclera, with gills on her neck and hands. Now that was totally different and unique, gilled hands.
Mimir actually mentions nimue and how he knows her. Showing that Excalibur and King Arthur are cannon in god of war. And that other mythologies do blend in far more regularly then what GOW 2018 would have you believe
GoW made us believe that gods were able to both simultaneously exist and interact. This feels on par with that.
I mean there's already a Kelpie bringing you to the fates (celtic mythology) and then Mirmir mentions he likes haggis.
Not to mention there's the Leviathan axe, Leviathan a creature from the book of Job and jewish mythology.
Honestly when I hear the name "Lady of the lake" I think of the Arthurian legend and Celtic folklore. Plus Norse mythology and Celtic mythology share and barrow a lot from one and another.
Mimir mentioned the lady reminded him of someone from his homeland.
And at the very least, she didn't make the axe. Brok said its a whole nother story that he didn't want to get into when asked if she made it.
I also wonder that with the giants of the game. It is mentions that some of them left to go elsewhere. Given that giants are in many mythologies and folklore, elsewhere could be practically anywhere.
Personally, I think she only made the spear. a blacksmith from a different land makes a weapon Heimdall wouldn't know about. Though this has me speculate on the involvement of more celtic or old English mythos in the future.
Well in GoW 2018 there’s a reference to Egyptian, Celtic, Shinto and Greek pantheons. It wouldn’t surprise me if in later games we visit the other 2 pantheons
@@Awzn123 very true, but what comes to mind for me is something I had heard a long time ago. Not sure if it’s true but what was (supposedly) planned for the original god of war 4 is well within the realm of possibility because of that Maiden in the water.
@@Awzn123 Or just end the franchise and stop milking it? Quality over quantity, I love the series, but I hope it's the end.
@@sladjanivkovic2 this is America babyyyy you know that there's more to come. However horrible it may be 😬
Since it's shown that Celtic mythology and Norse mythology have crossed paths this series. I have a feeling that Atreus's journey to find other giants will lead him to look for the Fomarians of Celtic myth. If he decides to grow out his red hair and become muscular like his Dad(from discussions with Kratos and Mimir). I can see him becoming either Fin McCool who was said to have a giant in some tales. Or Cu Chullain with his hulk form being the result of combining his shapeshifting with Spartan Rage.
If he becomes cu chulainn, we may see arthur and all his knights, because cu was actually the 5th seat of the round table.
And maybe we get kratos to raise arthur from a pretemptious brat prince to someone fit of a leader of his kingdom, a king.
@@sergiosegura2024 from what I remember, Cu Chulainn was never a knight of the round table because Cu was born in the bc era and King Arthur was born on probably around 5th and 6th century or during the medieval period.
But Cu Chulainn definitely serve as a knight to King Ulster.
Love the Celtic connection and I seriously hope that’s where the next game takes place! Celtic mythology as a whole needs more spotlight like Greco-Roman& Norsemyth. I have a theory tho like yours that Atreus travels to Celtic lands becoming more muscled& growing out his hair alittle. But instead of Cu Chullian I believe he’ll be incorporated into the myths as Lugh Lamfada, father of Cu Chullian. He’s known to be half god and half giant from his parents, is skilled in many different areas, and known as a trickster God as well as being one of justice. The similarities to Atreus/Loki are WAYYYY TO Similar. Lugh is also known as God of the Sun/Light as well as Storms(Lightning, Sound, Rain, and Wind). Between both Norse Games Atreus became well versed in wielding light, lightning, and sound elements. Wind got introduced with Krato’s spear, and a spear is a weapon that could easily suit Atreus(also main weapon of both Lugh and Cu Chullian in Celtic myth)along with wind element. Water in liquid form hasn’t been introduced but I could easily see it being used.
It speaks volumes to just how competent the Lady is at her craft that Brok and Sindri, creators of the Leviathan Axe and Mjoinir, both speak in utmost respect and reverence of her. Wonder if we’ll run into any of her other works past the spear.
I hoped there would have been a mention of Nuada or the Morrigan in the game, maybe in a future iteration.
If you think about it, most of the female figures’ role in the game was mainly influencing the progression of Kratos’ journey. Take Freyja or Laufey for example.
With that in mind, they could most likely be an aspect of the Morrigan, the Celtic goddess of war (relating to Kratos) and fate (relating to the fate of the Realms).
Týr could also be an aspect of Nuada. In the lore, both gods were known warriors who had a misfortunate turn of events and both of them even lost a hand.
The possibilities on mythological figures and lore are endless.
The rough story we get is Kratos being brought to the land of Norse gods by being dragged by a wolf and we never hear mention of it outside of that. I have a small suspicion there could be a certain shape shifter from another land that played a role.
Scandinavian fantasy creatures are so overwhelming, here are some creatures that I can think of of the North Western Europe: Kelpie; Mermaids; Giants like Jotunns,Trolls, Ogres; Sea Monsters like Kraken and Lyngbakr; Sea serpents like Jormungandr; Norse Dinosaurs like the Wyverns, Lindwyrms and Drakes ( don’t judge me because they only have four limbs) most popular of all, the Draig or Western Dragons. I only love Dragons and Kaijus very much because they are reptilian respectfully
When the sigrun phantom is fighting kratos, did anyone notice when she’s listing off names, she says titania? Titania the queen of all fairies? That makes me wonder if the fairy king that mimir mentions being an errand boy for in the previous game could be oberon!
I assume that Mimir is actually Puck from The Midsummer Night's Dream. One of his titles was "Robin Goodfellow", which is an alias for Puck.
@@namishusband818 You don't have to assume. The Norns litterally called him Puck at one point.
I miss your intro, I'll be waiting patiently for a long video. Kudos to your hard work.
Looking forward to watching all of these Ragnarok vids. This game was amazing
In the game, Angrboda confirmed that Vanir magic came from the Giants. The fact is that that was such a long time ago during Njörð's time before Freya and Freyr was even born that they forgot their magic came from the Giants. So I wonder if the Dwarves got their talents from the Lady.
this makes so much sense when you put it together.
It seems like the Lady of the Lake cannot make something from nothing, meaning that it's unlikely that she made Thor's Hammer or the Leviathan Axe. There's a good chance that Freyr's sword was probably made by her though because Ingrid has so many unique properties that are different from Dwarven and Vanir smithing. Besides that, there aren't very many "special" weapons that would have specifically been made by the Lady.
I legit think she’s The Lady Of Lake that will help Merlin create Excalibur (correction she’s a member of the same race apparently)
No, that's nimue, mimir knows her and mentions how she is very skilled at forging swords.
@@sergiosegura2024 oh shit thanks for that info
Same here.
I hope there’s a story conclusion where Kratos hands Draupner to Sindri. It’s the last think they made together, it was a treasure for them to begin with, and most importantly… it was blessed by his brother. It’s the nature of the thing that matters after all… Hopefully this helps Sindri find some closure, but knowing how dwarven magic works, it might be worth far more.
I hope not, because Kratos with the spear is too badass
Isn't from them, they stole it from Odin, but I get your point
@@YisusTV556 Some dwarves had gifted it to Odin, Brok said he was just taking back what should never have been gifted in the first place.
Personally I'd rather have him give the Blades of Chaos to Sindri. It's about time they finally retire, plus the dwarves have shown much interest in them.
@@VeraVemaVena the blades can never leave Kratos. They're bound to him forever, and also Kratos has tried to get rid of them before but they end up coming back to him.
Since the Lady is only capable of seeing aspects of a person's soul, she might be related to the way that Dwarves learnt about the Nature of the things, and how to use that for magic enchanting at smithing
Perhaps the reason why Sindri and Brok decided to have the lady make the spear is because Draupnir is enchanted, and modifing that magic to create spears is difficult or impossible without her help, Baldur stated that not even Odin could get rid of his curse, so perhaps modifiying magic/spells/curses is way more difficult than creating them from scratch. They were able to create an Axe with the power of Ice, a Hammer with the power of Lighting, and a Ring that can infinitely duplicate itself, but changing the function of said items might have been outside of their abilities
That’s your unconscious self, awake while dreaming
Fun idea: Atreus becomes King Arthur or Merlin in a later game. Probably not gonna happen but I think that would be a fun way to get Celtic mythology into the franchise.
I loved her design. She looks absolutely beautiful.
Outstanding video thanks 😎👍
Brok tells Kratos while testing out the spear that the axe wasn't made by her but doesn't say how they made the axe for Faye.
I think they ask the Lady to help when combining things of multiple magical natures beyond the norm. The axe had ice and a returning ability, so pretty simple even if it was strong. The hammer was sentient but it was their Magnum Opus, so they might have gotten away with it through sheer effort. The spear was them combining a magical spear they made, a magical replicating ring, the blood of a god, and even a wind attribute nature. So outsourcing to a foreign magical smith was the way to go.
@@mangasaint bloody mer-people, stealin 'onest 'ard-workin' dwarven jobs! 🙃
It's made of the same metal as Mjolnir and was imbued with the echoing screams of several frost trolls. Dwarves can work with abstract concepts in addition to normal materials to create impossible objects. The chains that bound Garm were used to bind Fenrir in the older myths and were made from, among other things, the sound of a cat's footstep.
Good stuff!
I think it was right after this that I realized that Kratos's axe holder thing on his back is his spartan symbol
Very interesting video! Could you do a video about Lycans?
Celtic myth being in the next game would be awesome but still hoping for Egypt ^^
More God Of War summary videos 🙏🏽 please & thanks 😊❤
Interesting. Kratos isn’t the only foreigner in these lands.
She reminded me of the fairy in the lake from Legend of Zelda that upgrades your equipment
Great video.
I don't know I never played the game but thanks for the video
love how the lady appears to made of seaweed and looks amphibious as well as alien
It'd make more sense for Kratos to hit Celtic Mythology next. There's just ao many overlaps. Bedides I'm not seeing how useful Mimir or Freya are going to be tracking around Egypt.
That's assuming they'd travel with him at all. Mind you, I'd love it if the Celtics are next, but video game developers seldom care what we think we want.
This only leads me to more questions
I think the most challenging pantheon Kratos could ever face would be the great old ones and outer gods from HP Lovercrafts cthulhu mythos.
Cthulhu: what is a God to me?
Kratos: what are YOU to an unbeliever?
* draws nodins spear of the abyss *
@Gottes God Is Myth and Fiction really that different?
@@crowntug definitely different
Imagine Jesus becomes a therapist for Kratos.
Why the hell would Jesus become that? Have you read the bible? Jesus, AKA god, was an incredibly petty, unstable and immoral piece of crap. Kinda like Odin in this game but whiney and spoiled.
@@Gnossiene369 whoa just like you.
I once heard that the original ending of GoW 3 was that Kratos lives on to become one of the wise men who presented gifts to Jesus upon his birth. Since Kratos didn't die in Ragnarok, I'd like to think that could still happen.
Any connection between "The Lady" and the Lake of Souls, possibly connecting Brok to an afterlife?
she freaked me the fuck out the way she just appeared out of the dark waters like that.
Set up for celtic pantheon next?
She could be a telchines from Greek mythology. They were aquatic creatures known for their metallurgy and weapon making skills. One myth even claims that a telchines made Poseidon's trident and a sickle for Cronus.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but she reminds me an awful lot of the Sylvari race in GW2, however the Sylvari are a plant based species rather than an aquatic species, both actually share the bioluminescence on their bodies though.
Kratos about to get Abrahamic
They really should make nypmhs and similar entitties that way
Mimir does mention he has a different name
Can you do a video on Angrboda
Ngl at first I thought brok and sindri was talking about a greater Dwarfen Blacksmith wasn't expecting a Mystical creature It's one of my favorite Cut scenes in god of war Ragnarok tbh I'm going to take a guess and say when the next game comes out we might be visiting her more often.
Atreus=Arthur?! Will he visit her next to receive Excalibur as his personal weapon? Will the next game be Celtic mythology? Your video has me questioning my previous theory that the Giants found the secrets to the higher plane within the Egyptian gods and Atreus will venture there and we will learn of the primordial lands and forces where Athena and maybe Thor or others reside now.
Considering that Atreus is close friends with Sköldr, the future founder of Denmark, Atreus might just become King Arthur in the next game!
Atreus maybe become Merlin the Wizard. He know magic and shape shift
Are they exploring Arthurian legends or Celtic myths in the next installment.
interesting theory
Alternatively she could just be a Rhinemaiden. Like the ones Alberich steals the Rhinegold from at the start of Wagner's "Das Rhinegold" (The Rhinegold). I know it's A *German* opera but the story is heavily based on Norse mythology. The four operas, "Der Ring des NIebelumg" (The Ring of the Nieblung) even end in Ragnarok. 🤔
Very interesting operas if you have, oh, 24 or so hours to burn 😵
I dunno about the lady making thors hammer or kratos' axe, the brothers are already pretty crafty at making weapons themselves. Going to the lady of the lake is more of a special 'special' case weapon like the one with the draupnir spear.
In Sweden the Kelpie is called *"Bäckahästen"*
Hmm. It apprear that mimir mentioned he once served a LORD and he mentioned medieval stories.
He did mentioned that he changed HIS NAME .
So he is indeed from another alnd
Nahh , leviathan axe and thor hammer were molded note made with magic that is why they are similar though , they look like dwarvish creations
I assumed she was inspired by the rhinemaidens from Der Ring des Nibelungen
We thank the lady of the lake for her great craft so that we got a cool weapon
I liked the idea of a mermaid who’s the metaphorical fordge of the dwarfs
Magic: the Gathering also made the Lady of the Lake into a merfolk back in their Eldraine set in 2019.
LADY of the Lake named Nimue who forge Excalibur for King Aurthur can look like mermaid, naiad, water nymph, sprite.
Nimue is referenced as a different mermaid Mimir knew who specialized in swords in particular.
What I want to know is did she reveal Kratos as having a new symbol? When she gets his blood and it forms the Omega Kratos is known for, she looked dissatisfied and was like "Again. That's better."
its sparta symbol (the upward arrow)
@@toren9120you're right. i said it just for simplification, easier to remember
i dont think she makes the things, but she puts them together
She also created odins spear, on odins green scarf there is a mermaid depicted
Neat.
smtg i just noticed, when the Olympus logo in blood comes first, she seems disturbed, as if the meaning is vengeance, then swipes right
What is the meaning of the two symbols she creates in the water
I'd prefer this one' looks rather than Disney's live-action version of the Little Mermaid.
Nymphs/Fae
Reminded me of Saoirse the mermaid from Nioh
:27 what is this symbol after the Omega one?
Not sure of the technical name but it's on spartan shields and used heavily in military and law enforcement these days, probably because of that history. Believe they call it a chevron now
Atreus as Merlin😮
So Brigid is a Celtic goddess of blacksmith and water, I wonder if she's related to this lady somehow
Puck from berklejerk?!!! 😂😮😢😊🎉❤
Kratoses Axe was made by brok
Lady of the lake but a freak in the sheets
I thought she's Rhinemaiden from Der Ring des Nibelungen
I thought she was referred to as lady of the forge. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong
Wait, Billy Shakes didn't create Puck?
I wonder if there's going to be an Celtic or Arthurian game.
I'm shocked that this didn't win Game of the year
i think celtics will be next title of GoW
Puck you said? Berserk.
1:06
I think the gow game will take place in Scotland, Ireland, etc and it'll take place in one of those mythologies because of all the mermaids, and Mimir, and the kelpie I think it's pretty obvious where they are going to take the next game to
Maybe the next big game im God of War will deal with Celtic Mythology?
Maybe in the next game we get Excalibur
I hope we get a god of war game that features egyptian gods.
the spear is rhongominyad
Lake of the Lake is just like the Little Mermaid🧜🏻♀Who's gonna be Part of the World?
I thought Lady of the Lake is one King Arthur's Folklore
👀OMG! It's going to be the Irish pantheon that's next to fall and not Egypt 😱
First! Let’s go lady of the lake
Ok so my understanding is this. Don’t think of the Lady of The Forge as the inventor of these items. She’s more like the final step in production. The dwarves have to provide every ingredient and material, they have to create the concept for the idea themselves, the Lady just uses a special kind of magic to fuse the pieces together, to give it its final form, but the dwarves invented them.
Yeah that is obvious my boy. She didn't materialize the spear from nothing, she literally fused all the spear pieces that Brok already created together.
Some watery tart that throws swords.
🤣🤣🤣
It's crazy how most mythologies are so similar on multiple parts of the worlds, like the mermaids who create weapons, but still were not sure if it's real or folklore, yet everyone agreed in that era.. it's bizarre to think about, what were they thinking when they made mythological fairytales and such.
I guess if you were tripping balls and saw a woman sit by a rock you'd probably think she is a mermaid
But then again😂
