DLSS is not in Starfield... However, we can simply use mods to add DLSS to the game ourselves. There were HUGE quality increases with DLSS 3.5 and 2.5.1, and MASSIVE improvements in FPS with DLSS 2.5.1.
Quick correction/notes: This mod only supports dlss 2, so use 2.5.1. Also: You need to turn on FSR2 in the game's settings, because this mod replaces FSR2 with DLSS/XeSS.

This shows again AMD being shady but its disgusting to see how people keep defending AMD like they are "good guy" when they are not. AMD scared to see more game implement DLSS 3.5 so they gotta block it by paying dev, honestly FSR3 isn't impressive at all ans we haven't seen it running real time on demo but so far only pathetic PowerPoint presentation hyped by AMD fanboy.
Also don't forget Intel Arc users can't play Starfield right now due to AMD not allowing the dev to optimize it for other GPU, this is beyond shady and we should called AMD for that !
Why not delete this video if it's inaccurate?

Isn't dlss fully backwards compatible? Meaning if you use the newest 3.5dll (granted you're on a forty series Gpu), it'll pick whatever is the maximum supported dlss functionality? At least it seems to be working just fine for me when using the 3.5dll.
Also it should be mentioned that turning film grain off completely is mandatory as the image reconstruction doesn't fare well with the fine structural details of grain.
Thank you for this video!! Has definitely helped make this game playable for my laptop.
Downloaded these mods, now it runs smoother and looks way better. Thanks 👍
Thank you for the video. Presets A to F mean what? Which presets are balanced, quality and performance? B, C, D or D, C, B?
Works with FSR activated! More FPS, smoother feeling and no ugly FSR - DLSS just looks so much better. (60% scale)
yeah FSR looks gross in many games to me but props to AMD for making it open source
Not sure why you say FSR and DLSS at the same time.
When you enable DLSS, it just takes over the FSR and effectively produces 100% DLSS.
Yeah mistake there ** did not realise it completely replaces FSR. I assumed that was the other dlss mod, as this works with ReShade and CAS specifically
Holy crap that’s awesome
Wow, that video stung my eyes. The upscaler mod outright replaces the FSR rendering with DLSS; you are not running both FSR + DLSS, lol. Only selecting FSR will get you actual DLSS upscaling. CAS is basically AMD's version of TAA. Enabling the mod while running CAS will actually apply DLAA on top of CAS.
when i get to the part where you launch the game to configure the reshade settings, my game crashes. I've tried with dlss 3.5 and 2.5.1 and it crashes after about 10 seconds in.

sorry for my noob question, but what is the 'home' button i can't find it on my keyboard and open the menu, and the 'END' one?

CAS+DLSS causes shimmer because the start resolution is just too low. Interesting that you got a difference using DLSS 2.5 and 3.5 as other sites confirmed there is no change. Looking forward to testing it myself.
I dont trust this guy and his sneaky voice. 😅
CAS+DLSS is shimmery because DLSS isn't actually running. You need to enable FSR for the mod to work.
@@crumblybutgood3545 Thank u bro, my game was looking terrible.
Yep, this video is wrong on so many levels. PureDark's modpage for DLSS made it clear you need to turn on FSR
"You need to turn on FSR2 in the game's settings, cuz this mod replaces FSR2 with DLSS/XeSS."
So i don't get this video at all, you can clearly see DLSS is doing nothing when he used CAS.
He doesn't get different results with 2.5... 3.5 is literally a more updated version of DLSS for ANY card, you just don't get the frame generation. This is a common misconception among snake oil game performance youtubers.
Used 2.5.1 and saw no FPS change, but visually it's definitely less "blurry" now. Christ, this game needs massive optimization updates and better drivers etc from Nvidia. Hardware Unboxed just released a benchmark video and man, 1440p medium even 4000 and 7000 cards are really, really struggling to stay over 60 or 70 FPS.

DLSS 2.5.1 and 3.5 give exactly the same framerate for me and it does make sense because it's upscaling from the same render resolution so why would it change. Can't speak for the image quality though.

the nexus mod DLSS guide says FSR2 must be turned on for DLSS to work, which is opposite of what you said in this video, can you please confirm ? thanks
Go with what the mod author says.
I think this disabled me being able to use my controller. How do I fix that?
I'm confused, the mod author states, "You need to turn on FSR2 in the game's settings, cuz this mod replaces FSR2 with DLSS/XeSS.". So, what gives?
What do you mean? It replaces what the game thinks is FSR with your upscale of choice, but DLSS/XeSS doesn’t actually show up as text in the games menu.
Dev does actually say to use FSR, I was confused too
@@DiscMilk Because this video hes telling us to not use the FSR option but to use CAS. I think that's the confusion
the video is misleading.
What PureDark has done is, any game that uses FSR2, will have all the vector information for DLSS to work, so when his DLL is in the game and injected, then when you enable FSR2, and you enable his mod, it completely stops FSR2 and DLSS takes over.
The reason why his CAS+DLSS saw shimmering is because there is no DLSS, CAS does not have vector information required.
The mod clearly instructs to enable FSR2, enabling this give DLSS the information it needs.
The final output is 100% DLSS, there is no FSR+DLSS combo that uses AMD/NVIDIA combo. Totally misinformation in this video.
I highly recommend you download the one with reshade, I've used cas for every dlss implementation I've had, it's much better than the Nvidia image sharpening, and the defaults are pretty much all you need to get the benefit of it and undo the blurriness.. in fact I wouldn't even mess with it beyond the defaults in the reshade plugin, as it seems to be set for the perfect balance between motion and clarity and minimal artifacts.
Thanks bro, exactly what i needed to know!

Can we do on gamepass ?
Will this disable achievements?
Doesn't seem to be working for me. I don't see a difference in FPS at all with it enabled/disabled. Running an 8700k/2080 at 1080p high settings. FSR is turned off DLSS enabled in the reshade settings. Preset set to F. Getting like 35 FPS looking at the ship that lands right at the beginning of the game when you walk outside after character creation.
Anyone have any ideas? My performance can't possibly be this bad for a 2080.
FSR needs to be turned ON. It says that directly in the mod authors description. The video is wrong.
i have done every step but the dxgi.dll my game will crash after i initiate the "press any button" prompt( i have enough time to press the end key and open the dlss menu so ik its there and working). any solution because im all ears
the dxgi.dll is what causes the crash ik that. once removed im fine but no end key dlss menu
RTX 30xx uses DLSS 2 and RTX 40xx uses DLSS 3 as far as I know hence the difference in performance. So I read somewhere...
Thank you for this information. I'm looking for DLSS with more fps. I habe the Asus TUF 3080 12GB OC.
I’m guessing this won’t work with an AMD gpu?
@TroubleChute, is it pointless to have dlss enabled but render resolution scale to 100%? Would it mean that dlss would be working for nothing if render resolution scale is set to 100% instead of 75% like in your video?
what u have to press when u in game? i am noob
You even have frame generation MOD for 40 series cards. works like a charm . also gnne try regular dlss with my 3070 desktop but with that one its less ness its already 65 fps / 80 fps

And how do I install from Vortex Mod Manager?
this won’t disable achievements?

I dunno, but maybe because it's just a .ini simple change.

@@tayonerobinsonrutter5826I'm using 2060 too but nothing has changed
With this mod and the dll file of DLSS 3.5.0 I go from 40-50 fps to 80-110 at 67% scaling. It's a fantastic implementation of DLSS :)
From where you got dlss 3.5.0 file ?

I call absolute BS. Went from 55 FPS to 64 on a 3080, 1440p. Changed res scaling from 75% to 67%.
I swear this doesn't even work properly, I'm now more prone to crashes and the performance is almost no different for me. Gonna just remove this and reinstall my game fresh and wait for an official dlss update
