- Come along as my youngest son, Doc (19), decides to take the Pitts up for a little ride for the first time. It's always exciting when someone flies a Pitts Special alone for the first time. We don't have the option for a lot of expensive fancy Pitts Special training camps, so I told him he could do it the way I did it way back when, use your sharp tailwheel skills and just get in and go. Worked for me. We'll see if it works for him.
It's just so peaceful and pretty up there. A Pitts just ads to that beauty. Be safe and awesome job.
A classic example of how easy it is to fly a Pitts if you do it the right way. Well done!!! They say there is one really good thing about a Pitts, and one not so good thing, and both of those are that a Pitts does exactly what you tell it to do. A pleasure to watch a Pitts being flown properly.
Nice job! I was 58 when I first solo’d an S-1!
Never too late to get some fun in!
There's nothing like flying a Pitts Special. Especially a light weight S1S.
You know it! 796lbs 180hp, Bendix fuel injection and two wings!
so awesome -- Well done1
That's just so awesome! Takes some skill to do precision aerobatics with those, nice job!
Great Job!!!
Great job! Looks more like you’ve been flying it forever. Sweet machine!
Congratulations!
Nerve of Steel
Go for it dude and have the best sole flight in the S-1
Great flying my friend
well that's awesome , way to go dude, nice kiss, going again 😀😀 I was erm....... 30 ish first solo in a 2b
Directional controls and looking way at the end of the runway
crazy how fast that thing bleeds altitude when you chop the power!
Maybe a citabria might be a little easier to land if your going to solo in a artabatic plane for first flight. ????
At the 7:02 mark, that was a 4-point roll? (i know next to nothin about aerobatics, just curious)
Did you find out where your mate went?
Well done Doc,
Have a lot of fun in this beautiful plane.
how many flight hours did you have before you took this step?
Hi Leo, I'm Doc's Dad. It's tough to judge how many actual hours Doc had in total as he, like my other two boys have been 'flying' since they were young with me in GA airplanes. I would guess he had 70 real licensed hours or so. He got his ticket at 17 and has been busy with college and the like.
@@damiandiesel1 This is good info, I really want a Pitts. What plane you think will be best prior to Pitts. I have Super Decathlon time but only about 15 hrs.
I think if you have decent tailwheel skills, an S1C is a great entry into Pitts world. They land slower, are usually lighter and more docile . @@klmelj
@@damiandiesel1 thanks for the info.
way late but great stuff
wdym way late? Its not his first solo, but rather his first solo in a pitts. Learning to fly a pitts is no easy task and at 19 years old that's impressive

Actually, this is great example of proper Pitts video! Finally! Many hide the instruments, footwork, and ruin videos with music, comments, etc.. Well done Doc and your Dad and thanks for showing us real flying!
