These fish really are social butterflies.

Anyone who wants easy butterflies, go for Auriga, raccoon, Klein, heniochus, I heard Japanese and reef are also good butterflies but a bit harder to find in America…. Be careful with mixing a few of them unless you got a tank like this…. I had a collare, double saddled, Auriga and a raccoon, and my raccoon is the only one left, mine you they were all super small, and got parasites, make sure they get good quarantine and less stress and they should be easy! Happy fishkeeping ❤❤❤❤❤

There are three major concerns when keeping butterfly fish in a tank from my personal experience. 1. Not reef safe. 2. Very challenging on feed them. 3. If you could manage both, rest is history....

I thought that most Butterflyfish species are solitary or hangout in pairs on the reef. Therefore they would do better the same way in an aquarium.

My kleins butterfly is very happy with his similar sized and colored 2 bar rabbitfish, and his tang friends who have a similar body type to him. He eats pods off the rock all day and nips at my mass of zoas and lps all the time. He constantly is looking for food and swims around like only a carefree happy organism could

They don’t like other similar butterflies because it means competition, any other fish should be great to have with them, sometimes they will even swim with other tangs/angels

Pyramids, Zosters, Marginallis, Caribbean Longsnout, Longnoses, & Copperbands are all very safe options for a reef system

Wow so it is more common.... I had two banner fish that picked out the eyes of two of my horn sharks. They both lived crazy enough. So durable. Took the banner fish out of course. Yeah, sharks and butterfly fish... not a good combo

How safe are butterflies in a reef aquarium?

Paul very useful information. Do you think Pyramid Butterfly would appropriate in a Max 250? If so is a pair the minimum to stock, is three too excessive for 250 litres, for just a modest protein skimmer? Thanks.

I took your advice and bought 3 butterflies at once. They are sticking close to each other peacefully.
Why do some people say butterflies dont mix? Your advice flies in the face..but i agree with you. Ive had mine for 2 days now..

coral margin, moorish idol and a golden heart butterfly fish

    • @foxyrollouts
      @foxyrollouts Před 3 lety +1

My bigger copper band hates my coral margin.
My small keinji is bossy and guards the best food spot.. real guts
My golden heart is really sweet.. hope it starts eating.
I separated the two sim copper bands.. give it a chance to fatten up. Chances are the actual copperband band will die. My coral margin is quite perky and smashing the clams.. be a shame for it to get stressed and die at start.
The kenji was fighting the copperband in the quarantine tank. So i swapped it with the golden heart..

I would say 2 copperbamds bad
5 copperbands better. Bit like tangs. I presume

Just one live rock in the center with crushed coral as substrate. Is the beneficial bacteria in the substrate and the single live rock enough for so many fish...what filtration and media or how high sump are you using for this 4x2 tank and what model and capacity of protein skimmer are you using?
