    I wish Arteta can show our current squad about our good old Arsenal's mentality like this 83-84 team, to play more aggressively and more pressing. A football match can only be won with such a winning mentality and determination. R.I.P. to some of the players who unfortunately no longer with us today in this vintage video. A great memory lasts in so many fans' hearts no matter which team you support.

      They didn’t have a choice back then did they... they were on a few hundred quid a week, my point I’m trying to make is that the games changed and in places not for the best! You’re telling me 250k a week plus is the correct wage for kicking a ball around grass, and in answer to your question, yeah I would, in fact I’d play for nothing if I was playing for a club I loved, you completely missed the point I was trying to make.....

      Fairclough was a great player in the making and may well have played alongside Walker both for Forest and in the England team if he hadn't suffered a really bad injury. I hadn't realised or else forgotten he won the title with Leeds. I'm glad he went on to have success in his career.

    Football commentary really wishes John Motson, legendary voice of football during my childhood

    • @annandune
      @annandune Před 3 lety +1

      His commentary was pretty poor though. Bowyer didn't foul the Arsenal player - most likely he was penalised for having his foot too high in a challenge. And he said Forest were paying the price for not creating enough chances but Forest had plenty, we just didn't put them away.

    Bet clough had a few words his keeper should of kept Shilton

    • @annandune
      @annandune Před 3 lety +1

      I think he just misjudged the timing there, perhaps even got a bad bounce. Van Breuklen was generally considered to be a pretty solid keeper and he made some good saves in that game. I would agree, I would still prefer Shilton but I think Cloughie would have been more annoyed with the rest of the team for not putting away the chances we had.

    • @danielmurray569
      @danielmurray569 Před 3 lety

      @@annandune agreed he was a good keeper (ask naill quinn) but why didn't clough keep the championship winning side together longer and chris fairclough left amongst others

    • @annandune
      @annandune Před 3 lety +3

      @@danielmurray569 I think the Shilton thing was some kind of row. I think that may have even been part of the reason why Clough and Taylor split as a team. A lot of people forget just how pivotal Taylor was to their success.
      Woodcock left after we won the championship . He might have stayed for one of the European Cups. Withe left at the end of the Championship winning season. . Woodcock was never as good as when he played at Forest but I think he got more England caps after he left.
      This might be another reason why the championship side didn't stay together. England selection is notoriously biased towards the big teams and despite their success Forest were never considered part of that club. In terms of consistent selection, Pearce and Walker did a lot better even though they weren't part of a championship winning team.
      If we had kept Anderson longer, had Fairclough and Walker together in the centre and Pearce on the left the defence would have been the best in the league.

    • @annandune
      @annandune Před 3 lety +1

      With respect to the midfield, I think Robbo liked a drink too much and this seemed to lead to him being less of a force to be reckoned with. McGovern was always solid but might have been reaching the end of his career, at least in top flight football. Methgod who replaced him was a good replacement. Not sure why O'Neill left although it might have been another case of personal differences.
