I was there that day, we were great. Then a week or 2 later when we won in dramatic fashion at Highfield Road I was on the pitch with loads of jubilant Gooners after Paul Mariner scored the late winner. Travelling back down the M1 we were all convinced that we were going to win the League.
Unusual for Liverpool to be played off the pitch like that - unfortunately, as an Arsenal fan from that period, I knew we didn't have the character throughout the squad to challenge for the title.
Listened to this game on radio as a naive 11 year old, and was so so sure Arsenal were going to win the league... Sadly, the team were nowhere near good enough, way way too inconsistent, capable of beating Liverpool, but also capable of losing to both Oxford and York in both Cups later that season.
Is this the same arsenal that lost to york city in the fa cup a few months later? While liverpool without the departed souness, got to the european cup final.
@@ViceCityDJ Thanks David, just a few seconds after the clip ends I am seen standing at the end of the tunnel. I can see myself a few seconds earlier but it is from a distance. Just would have liked the full version.
Referee was from Newbury my home town and just before i started going to highbury saw us when don Howe was sacked at home to Coventry really small crowd of 17000 but won 3 .0 and George Graham took over and i was going quite regularly good old days was at Anfield 89 never thought it would be the most famous league victory in history
5:20 look at the cheat Grobbelaar at 5:20. 3-0 down, getting a hammering, and there he is laughing and taking the piss. Despicable man. A disgrace to the game.
I loved Highbury 😍 great stadium 🏟.

The official figure. But you can add 5,000 to that at least.

I was there !!! A 24 hours trip from Cannes by train, car and ferry. My very first travel.Great souvenirs...

Those kits were awesome by both teams. Umbro always made kits to clubs tradition
None of that polyester rubbish.
Liverpool fan, but sad to here of Paul Mariners death today, of brain cancer. 🙏
Amen - a great loss to football
top of the league...last time was 1973...!
We could have won the Doubles for the second time that season of 72/73

Peak Handsome Sansom!!
Arsenal showed that we weren't intimidated of Liverpool despite the Mersey club dominate football in this country
Now write that in English.

Definate handball for the 2nd goal. Where's VAR when you need it?
