Preheating the pot doesn't change the result these days, neither does adding milk to the cup first. All of that was done at a time when homes were freezing cold and so were the pieces of china and stoneware. Preheating the freezing cold pot by adding a small amount of hot water prevented the water for the tea from cooling down too much after it's poured into the pot. And adding milk first to the freezing cold cup prevented it from cracking from the sudden temperature change when nearly boiling tea is poured into it. I've made tea with a pot preheated and not preheated, and with milk first and not first. It all tastes the same.
The secret to a great tasting cup of tea is the right materials and clean equipment: fresh, good quality tea leaves; a clean teapot even if it was used for tea only once before; a clean, large, fine-mesh, stainless steel tea strainer with a collar that rests on the top opening of the teapot and is easy to lift up and remove; a clean water kettle; freshly aerated water; removing the kettle from the heat as soon as the water boils; pouring the heated water from the kettle AFTER the rumbling of the boiling water stops; and not steeping too long as doing so causes the tannins to release from the leaves which makes the tea bitter and astringent.
OMT: Her tea is so weak, she might as well drink water.
OMT: Half and half (half cream) is way, way, way more delicious than milk.

I thought it was me to see the tea looking like water.
I'll just eat a scone and be done, not hungry for dinner after this tea time

Water temp and time to steep is imperative and not mentioned here. Everything should be assembled before you prepare your tea. Many of her food suggestions are not traditional…open face, “pumpernickel” etc.

Peacocks are beautiful but they're loud and dirty, like turkeys. We had several of both when I was growing up. My fav were the chickens because they weren't noisy (except the rooster).

  • @playinglifeoneasy9226

No, she did it wrong! I’m so sad you put the tea in first then the hot tea can melt the sugar and then you add the milk to lighten and make the tea easier on the stomach since tannins can be strong for some people. How can you pour milk into the empty cup? You can’t see how much milk you have there you don’t know, what the tea looks like the concentration so you put the tea in and then you can adjust the milk to the tea you don’t wanna overwhelm a pale subtle tea with a whole lot of milk, but a strong Russian tea might need more milk. I’m so sad. I love Martha, but this is wrong and so many levels.😢
On another note, notice that the utensil she’s using it for the cream cheese very flexible. This is a special type of spreader knife.
