      I'm from the same background and I feel the same way you do. The Queen is a remarkable woman. She has never put a foot wrong in upholding the dignity of the monarchy in her 70 years on the throne. She unexpectedly inherited the position as a young woman, and far from bemoaning her fate, she got on with what she had to do, with character and resilience. And then, in her final years, along comes shallow Meg and causes this level of grief. She is, in a calculated way, trying to damage the reputation of the RF and by extension, the monarch. With the apparent approval of Harry, who is reputed to be the Queen's favorite grandson. What a betrayal.

    I'm American. I worked as a legal secretary for a large Houston insurance defense law firm years ago. The managing partner and all the attorneys had a luncheon for us and all of our bosses actually served us. It was a wonderful day and meant so much to me and all the staff. They said it was in appreciation for all of our hard work and overtime when we had a tight deadline. I'll never forget that day. The ladies serving the maids seems like a similar idea. I bet the maids had an amazing time!

      Sounds like a one time thing. More thought was put into it, than a nice thank-you note, to evoke loyalty and emotional binding. A touching gesture, they wouldn't necessarily have to repeat every time. Wouldn't it have been a real surprise to give you a little bonus or an extra day off for your work?
      And for the maids? If they realy appreciated their hard work they shouldn't have let them work extra without payment during holidays, for when they have to use the rest room etc., It was all summed up and you'll have to work it off. Giving up a free day of your already sparse free time is not appeciating their work and they would have to take the day of for this invitation, too. Also their social standing,...non regulated working hours,... But back in the day, who wouldn't have gone to this event? The maids would have been thrilled for the privilege of such an invitation and their employers would have wanted for them to go.

    Love Eclairs or 'choux'! They are one of the easiest and impressive baking solutions. Boil a cup of milk and 1/4 pound of butter, then dump 1/3 pound of flour into the pan and quickly stir it into a ball of mash. Remove from the heat and mix in 4 eggs 'til smooth. Shape by spoonfuls into tiny buns, a wreath, or pipe into fingers, then pop in a hot oven until it smells baked and looks golden. Cool and cut open. Fill with sweetened berries and cream and sprinkle the tops with icing sugar. Or fill with cream and pour hot cream & melted chocolate sauce over them.

      @rebeccahopkins9522 Před 3 lety +7

      Makes proper sense really 😌👌it just seems quit wrong in the reverse. Cream ALWAYS goes on top, no matter what it is. Btw I’m American, a non-practicing Jew as is my Mother, but my DNA is also 60% Scottish, English and Welsh combined. When I found that out the very un-Jewish things I’ve always enjoyed and loved, such as scones, hot tea, room temperature water, being in the mountains and highlands (I feel so at home in high, lush mountainsides like in no other place), clotted cream, Welsh rarebit, and the way I’ve always spoken in proper English even as a very small child, made so much more sense 😂 maybe some things really are “in the blood”.

    • @douglasfreer
      @douglasfreer Před 3 lety +4

      I’ve tried both ways and I have no preference, just doing one side the Cornish way and the other side the Devonshire way. Jam then cream is neater while cream then jam looks messy but interesting since it’s almost mixed together.
      My way is a compromise between the two versions since they still taste the same, just the order is different.

      Do you really have an edible garden? I live in the high desert, and the sun just sucks the life out of everything here. Once I put my 2 year old avocado seedling tree in the after noon sun for on the north side (away from the hun and sheltered by the house, four hours and the leaves crumbled like dust, as if they had been put in liquid nitrogen!

    When we were stationed in the United Kingdom I loved scones and clotted cream. And all the cakes and pastries, also the fresh baked bread, and their shrimp cocktails with small Northsea shrimp.
    Everybody thinks the food in the United Kingdom is awful but it's not their food is a wonderful mix of all the foods of Europe India original kebab foods from all over the world.
