    Hey Chris, not sure if you know this but your former DS José Azevedo is now commentating for Eurosport Portugal and yesterday he spoke about you and your eating "habits" during a grand tour. I think he knew some about the whole McDonald's thing but for sure not all of it. 😂 Still he said you were always incredibly professional and although you had those habits you were always on form to race. The other commentators were losing their minds about this so I concluded that they are knuckleheads because that means they don't follow this fantastic channel! All the best 🦋

    Man, that was such an amazing breakdown, Chris. It’s always amazing, but the detail with which you break things down is just incredible. I don’t think ANY other commentators go this deep. It makes the parts of the race that used to seem boring super exciting. Thanks so much!! 🙏

    OK Chris, Cyclingnews is still droning on about this, so you ought to say something about this shocking "controversy" that a guy would show up at a bike race and try to win as much as he can. As you can tell, I think this is the dumbest thing ever, so if you disagree, I'd love to hear why.
    And look, I get that a well-judged gift can pay dividends later. And I get that if he wants to win the Tour, Pogačar has to be smart about spending energy. But that's not what they're talking about; they seem to think that Pogačar should avoid winning out of politeness or something. Come on!

      @@ashifo07 I have also seen articles on cycling news that state this is how racing is now including conversation with former racers and ds's. It isn't about bargaining stages anymore. It is just about winning and they make reference to other sports where the mentality has changed as well. Running up the score is no longer the slight it used to be.

    Hello Chris!
    One interesting thing to look at here... Caleb Ewan. A few days ago, you made a video about him complaining that his team wasn’t helping him.
    For years (at Lotto) he has not won and repeats this, it is not his fault, it is that of his team. I do not agree with that, I am tired of this rider and yet I liked him.
    Today it is still a perfect example; his team does a good job but he is not up to it. He has a good train, but when Mezgec launches his sprint, Caleb is no longer in his wheel... And why? Because at one point he makes the wrong choice (we can clearly see it on the video) to leave his teammate’s wheel and follow someone else. This was already the case at Lotto, I saw exactly the same situation too many times.
    I don’t know what’s wrong with him, it’s too bad...

    • @ChrisHornerCycling
      @ChrisHornerCycling  Před 20 dny +7

      The sprints are so crazy, you only get a split second to decide how you will play it out. Caleb doesn’t seem to have his normal duck and dive abilities so far here. Hopefully he finds that soon. 🤷🏼‍♂️🦋🤞👍

  • @thecellulontriptometer4166

    I have to wonder how teams train for the bump and jostling of sprint finishes? It just seems like some riders always get pushed around while others are able to move others out of the way to get to their spots. Some of it is size and strength, but not all. To me it looks like something teams can train for if for no other reason than to keep their team safer by knowing how to deal with a hard bump without losing control.

    Seriously though Chris - if there was a split, how many seconds could Tadej lose? How many is he already ahead, and how many is he likely to gain in future mountain stages? Is that really worth the risk of possibly ending his season with a crash in the argy-bargy? Does he really HAVE to?
    Or is Pogy a bit impetuous and rash, which may cost him dearly, much as we love to watch it?

    I not sure but it looks like the nature of sprinting has changed a bit, where the big guys, not just the sprinter but also their lead out assert their position at the front by bumping other teams lead out. I know Sagan used to get a bit of flak for pushing his way to the front, but now it looks like the whole team pushes their way to the front. Not just a wee bump to hold their line a big bump to disrupt their opponents?

    • @Michael00000001
      @Michael00000001 Před 19 dny

      If you watched Tour de France in the late 90ies or 20xx when teams were allowed to have 10 riders this sprinter trains were pretty common. Nowadays teams are smaller, flat stages have been massively reduced, and there are more stronger break-away riders + technical improvements (aerodynamics, tactical radio advice etc.). This Giro is an exception with more flat stages than usual and teams solely focused on sprints.

    I think after this stage it proves that Caleb might be done. The whole excuse about not having a good lead-out train is out the window. Milan was surfing wheels from 1k to go and won. Caleb didn’t even fight for 4th just like the other stages he gives up before the finish line. I think the hunger for winning stages is gone. Eventually the team will catch to that and think twice working for him in other stages.

    Chris besides the last 10 km this was a snooze stage. The whole philosophy of Tadej Pogacar sharing the pie and letting breakaways win due to peer pressure does mot sit well with fans and does not seem to sit well with Pog either. He seems genuinely annoyed that pressure was applied on him by his fellow riders. Juicy stuff this needs your informed comment methinks?So when Paret-Peintre wins I am thinking he only won because of peer pressure in the Peleton and Pog shakes the winners hand unenthsiastically and very unPog like.

      I think it's ridiculous, as if Tadej and his team have the energy and willpower to control every stage. It's a mind game. We all know how to get out of this trap. Force UAE on the front, attack him when his team is out the back. Otherwise, let many riders get up the road and force UAE to close caps/ride on the front. Be smart(er).
      I'd say it's mostly the other teams fault that Tadej gets into a position(easy ride up to 50k) where he can dominate like no other.
