"I bought this to level up my driver mod" Just want to point out the absolute choice mindset right there.
He said it during the meet and greet and I said, "Say that in the car. The world needs to hear this." - ZK
Matt Farah, testicular comfort connoisseur.
agentlongwood I found them at a store at the beach and it was $30 for one pair.
"We're being led by the depreciation squad" LOL the new one takes are in good hands with Zack!
People need to understand the value of these builds. Money can never buy driving skills.
My initial reaction was "Why would anybody ever drive that?" His answer was really deep and I think we can all learn from this, if we're being honest.
100%. If I had thought like him 10 or 15 years ago, I'd be a better driver today.
try a 92-95 era civic sometime, they are scary good drivers cars, extremely reliable, parts are extremely cheap. you can drive it flat out and not be freaking out of cops or endangering crowds. many smiles per gallon to be had. easily my favorite car I've ever owned was a 92 ex coupe and I'm currently driving a AP2
is this matt or zack replying now?
they weigh like 2200 and you can get 200 hp out of them for like 4000.. including the price of the car
Definitely. Everyone's arguing over cars that are separated by 5 seconds at the Nurburgring when 99% of us can't take these sports and hypercars to even 7/10ths the limit. Stuff like this (and Miata, of course) can teach you a lot about how cars work and behave at the limit.
love seeing people who build a car to drive and enjoy and not to worried about it having the fastest thing on there.
Mumble although this one is already came moded. Lol guy didn't built it.b
Hello everyone! It’s nice to see my old car getting a little bit of limelight in the hands of its new owner. I’m glad that it went to a great home and is still being taken to the track to serve as a dual-purpose car as I had intended it to be.
For anyone that is familiar with the tracks in SoCal, here is a list of my best times that I was able to achieve with this car (for the ones interested, you can find a few in-car videos on my CZcams channel 🍻):
•ACS Infield - 1:20.129 (9/23/17)
•Big Willow - 1:39.48 (12/16/17)
•BW CW13 - 2:07.337 (12/3/17)
•CVR CW - 2:12.303 (4/8/17)
•SOW CW - 1:30.895 (10/8/16)
•SOW CCW - 1:31.631 (8/19/17)
Melvin Rodriguez 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Melvin Rodriguez respect! Facts!!.. good Oldskool Honda's mane!!
#thatwhitefourdoor
I thought I recognized it
I knew I recognized an old Vtec Club car.
Woah it’s a little strange without Matt but I still love the concept of one takes so i’m quite happy still
No its not
Just because it feels strange doesn't mean it doesn't feel good. - ZK
Bob Barker fuuuuck i actually forgot what i was watching until you mentioned matt not being here
Bob Barker yes, in fact it does feel strange as hell :) , but we have to give Zack and us a little time. It will be good.
Matt isn’t going to waste his time with this rice shit.
Driving slow cars fast is where its at! Definitely makes you a better driver! Driver technique! are the best mods imo! Great to see these one takes again!definitely a a great lil car! 👍👍👊✌
CIvic was the car that taught me to be a better driver
Donald Drumpf vr6 is one of the worst engine ever made by man try again
Saves on speeding tickets too! 😆
Always learn to drive before you go fast otherwise you'll be in a CZcams compilation.
Except i wouldnt drive a geo metro or a ford taurus at high speeds. Hondas are the king of FWD and have proven to beat cars like the MR2 (around a track) with such little mods.
Slow cars make fast drivers 🤓
True
False
What a great guy. It is so nice to see a guy in the Honda community who isn't obnoxious and actually knows his stuff. Makes me proud to have a modified Civic similar to this one.
I have the automatic, sold in South Africa as the name "Ballade", for marketing reasons. When you have everything in tact and serviced, it's a high class vehicle which steers excellently, holds well and accelerates well.
Driving a slow car fast is so much more fun than driving a fast car slow. Good start Zack, this was pretty rad.
Jonathan Edwards ...ummm no. I would take any fast car and have more fun driving slow than any civic. Oxymoron=fast+civic
Low power car are easy to drive fast
Would you drive a geo metro or ford focus fast or even modify it? Probably not..hondas are race cars in disguise, i think we can agree other manufacturers havent created a similar FWD offering.
Exact
This guy gets it......
When I was younger went from boosted to boosted builds, from bmw to subie to rb25s.......
About five years back I got a 1969 karmann ghia, it thought me that my whole life I had depended on my cars to make me fast. The ghia forced me to become a better driver, few years later got an MKii Jetta carat, NOW THAT car thought me how to really drive. Recently modded up the mkii, made it a carburated conversion on the 8v with a built head and cam. The went to town on suspension.
The Mkii is funner than any of my old high value high power cars..........
Driver mod development > everything else.

The Honda community is the best I’ve ever seen!
GHOSTJERKER we're pretty great, I cover the majority of us in youtube on my channel
*Sarcasm doesn't translate well in text
Juan Salgado No sarcasm intended.
GHOSTJERKER is this satire?
The one in my town is quote "hell x2)
1988-2000 Civics are so much fun to drive. Great cars to practice your driver mod with.
Built my CRX a k24/k20 swap with ITB's keeping it N/A with forged internals. It's so much fun to drive.
Scorpio7 XXX the good old honda days. They dont make em like they used to. I dont even think id want an ep3
Also the early 2000's Ford Focus Zx3's
playeradam123 if those dont have double wishbone like hondas. Then id say just stick with honda
Agreed but don't overlook the 7th gen with some good grippy tires and suspension.
This car needs a twisty road!
True. Needs tighter twists, but man it carried speed.
And my friends wonder why I drive a 25 year old Civic.
Mines 26!
I wish to own one when i get my licens
Mines from 1994
mine's 29 . crazy little thing still kicks hard
1995 4 door lx gang
ZACK!!!GO!!!!ZACK!!!!!!
Single cam power boi
When you want to haul A$$ but don't want speeding tickets 💯💯
gavi deem yes, lower friction, lower weight, lower rotating mass.
Jarek Nowak less moving parts, easier to take care of, cheaper to maintain and modify because it's smaller along with one less camshaft 😃
This idea of running a single cam is now intriguing me. I've always turned up my nose at it, but now I'm curious
Not going to lie but I love Zack as the new One Take host. Very knowledgeable, can drive and he has the personality to deal with each person. Excited to see more of these.
I love watching Melvin drive this beauty! I'm happy the new owner has used it in the exact same way!
wait did you build this car?
"we are being led by the depreciation squad" everybody who hasn't been listening to the TST podcasts forever has been sleeping on Zack's humor
Yes Zack!!!! You fucking killed it it this!!! I can’t wait for this new generation of one takes!
These cars came very well balanced but im just a fan boy.
You can import a Honda Beat now pretty affordably
Honda Vlogs no you’re not. These are awesome Civics. Best looking IMO.
Noise Control No power steering is a downgrade bud.
Noise Control Exchanging drivability and comfort on the street for a few tenths of a second better lap time for a street drivin car is rediculous and lousy. Just like how low torque and high reving HP motors are garbage on the street.
98 Civic has a hydraulic clutch....
Zack doing these series justice
CrocodileTearsbro lol never thought I’d see you here wtf
[100] is still shit, love you tho buddy
CrocodileTearsbro 100 is ded
[100] will never die
Good one Zack! A suggestion is to try to keep it a bot shorter 10-12 min and keep the ”almost” 20 min ones saved for the really really special ones! ... Otherwise my morning dumps will be suspiciously long!
Yep, gonna work on that. Got caught up driving and talking. The long ones are called "Fiber Takes".
7 seconds more to shave off at the track. Absolutely the right car to learn on. And power is so easy to add to Civics to get faster once you get to higher levels
How's the on center steering?
of the car or the underwear?
And how 'bout that turning radius, eh?
On center was pretty tight. I don't remember there being any slop. Hard to remember since it was a few weeks ago.
I died laughing at this one.
This is how I approached my '93 Civic coupe. Engine mods are just an AEM CAI, and a used DC 4-2-1 header.
Suspension was KYB AGX's paired with Ground Controls. A Cusco front upper strut tower bar also. I lowered the front about an inch lower than the rear to put more weight on the drive wheels. Stiffened the rear AGX's to 4, and fronts to 2.
At 40 PSI on stock tires and wheels, there would be little understeer, and throttle on the turn would cause to the car to rotate amazingly and predictably.
I knew my Civic was setup well when I lost this "crew" of three Type-R's repeatedly in the technical parts of a track, each lap. That, plus great braking and heel-toeing.
They made zack practice on a civic for his first first take. 😂he does a good job. Put the mic a little closer to your mouth please. Is zack matt's son, because he reviews good like he does
That same day, a 400WHP 340i showed up. The difference in speed and feel was great.
Will move mic and turn up levels in my voice.
Melvin’s old car!
Nathan Mao yessssss. I was like wtf I seen this car somewhere before!
Same dude! I’ve had a Coyote Mustang, Supercharged FRS, C5 Z06 etc, and my B18C type R swapped CRX has been by far my most favorite. Some people don’t realize that you don’t need 1000whp to have fun in a car. Sometimes a great handling, short geared, sub 200hp car is all you need to put a smile on your face. I think the Fiesta ST guys can attest to that too lol
Great Video!! Thank you so much for letting us take part. Thanks to everyone who gives SHEATH drive.
Randy is absolutely the most down to earth fan car owner, and Zack did an awesome job! Looking forward to more.
Thanks for the opportunity Zack, I had a great time meeting you guys! Ironically, the day the video drops talking about how reliable it is, it breaks down. Haha. Btw, is it ok if I plug my instagram here 😬😂 @lees_garage
Lee's Garage no way that sucks! What was the issue if don't mind me asking? By the way love the little Honda! Great little touge runner for sure brotha! Aslo a loyal honda owner myself! Love taking on the twisty in my unmodified 93 rs 5speed da-9! So much fun!..👍👍👊✌
What broke?
TheSmokingTire distributor decided to implode. Easy fix, I’ll be back on the road today.
Lee's Garage common for a Honda easy fix!..
Great job, Zack!
So glad to see the One Takes continuing with Zack. Also, this owner is awesome. He's got a great mindset. I'm not going to lie, I've been thinking about buying a car and building it just like this for a cheap but fun daily.
Sir you’re allowed to upshift. With that said, thanks for continuing this series.
I watch this constantly to stay motivated to grab a older Honda and do these exact mods
Really reminds me of my opel vectra 2.0. You can really go all out on it and drive it like you hate it without doing 100 in 10 seconds lol. Fricking hate the sound tho but thats just my preference.
Great to see the one takes come back!!! Zacks a good host
Great job Zack! For a second I thought the owner was Matt's body double...Seriously guys I think these fan car episodes are way more fun than dealer demo cars. Stuff like "power band-aid" would never come from just reading a window sticker/build sheet.
Now I'm curious what conversation you were in with Hunter S that led to "Colon Slash" .
Zack Klapman it didn't happen, I wish there was a story! It was a pic that looked like my grandpa and a play on internet addresses. Boring! Thanks for keeping up the series bro!
Zack needs to shift more. He's gonna blow that thing up. It might like to rev, but not pegged there all day.
Jim Bullerdick it’s a Honda it’s ok.
So weird. The driver is now the small and thin guy next to the passenger. :-D
Love it! Thank You Zack for taking the torch and going on with the fan cars :-)
That's a total practice mobile. Good choice. The beauty part is that anyone can drive that car, learn, and have the confidence to do more.
Am I the only Honda guy in the comments thinking that's just about the worst example of a modded Honda? The engine isn't an upgrade, it's a replacement. All the parts are very, very budget. And he bought it as is. That's a sub $1000 car in my area.
nice video, smart owner, and a classic Zack's one-liner: "led by the depreciation squad" :)
my only suggestion is to get the mics in closer for your voices - Matt's booming voice overcame some of it before
Nice car, good owner. if you guys wanna good yard stick to measure up too. Let a pro driver lap your at a track with you in it. When you get close to their best time. Now it's time to add power or switch to a more capable car.
This civic guy is an awesome. Every car guy should aspire to be like this guy
What an awesome car! It looks and sounds great! Thanks for sharing this great build! I’ll bet most of your subs passed this episode up because the thumbnail looked boring. Too bad for them😩. I think the most fun car I ever had was my 2005 5-spd manual Civic LX Sedan. Or my 1972 MG Midget, or my 1969 VW Beetle. Well, you get my point!
My first car was a stripped hyundai excel x3 (accent in the US) with a race seat, harnesses and good suspension with very little work done to the 1.5l twin cam motor. Such a fun car to drive fast as a driver thats still learning
but how's the turning radius?
You kicked ass! This series is alive and kicking!
Great Vid! I'm also driving same model as well, it's tiny by today's standard but loads of character and nice to look at especially when modded it right.
I really enjoy seeing enthusiast building sedan Hondas. Much respect
I love the conversation you guys had. Y’all got the point across. It’s not about adding more hp or aero to get a better lap time. It’s about working on your driving skills to get better lap times. Then you compare that to others in the same class or to the laptime other ppl are getting with similar setup. That’s how you know if you’re driving is improving. So many CZcamsrs just add hp and aero to improve lap times, but they just put themselves in another class or level where the lap times are way below what similar cars with same hp and aero are getting. You can add aero, but other ppl with the same car are getting faster lap times without aero. That’s the wrong approach to improving lap times.
Just picked up a 97 ex and this is roughly the look and set-up I'm aiming for.
This really made me think, I’m 17 recently bought a mkvi GTI. I no longer am saving up for a new tune for my car but brakes suspension and track days. I drove my dads stock ‘09 civic for over a year so I became used to the lower power and love the current GTI but I obviously still have much to learn about driving
Perfect place to start man, as you probably know by now the good old MKVI and actually all non PP equipped MKVIIs (this gets even more confusing for 2019) use a ABS-reliant eLSD. So if you can beef up those brakes you're addressing one of the main things that will keep you on track longer, cooling those poor overworked brakes. Before going down the rabbit hole of springs/coils look into some chassis bracing, a lot of the more trackday minded guys had good feedback on those.
Don't feel too bad about the power difference between generations, later you can always get a reflash. Most say a 'Stage 1' MKVI feels about where a stock MKVII puts you on the power curve.
D Lombana what break kits would your recommend? I know my pads burn up pretty fast due to my spirited driving style. Obviously I know of brembo but those seems so expensive. What would be an affordable, bang for the buck upgrade from the stock steel?
I too would like to know
Some stickier tyres will also help to.
Bang for the buck would be some Hawk HPS pads with some Motul RBF600 fluid and like Anton Peterson mentioned, definitely some good performance summer tires. The better grip you have the less correcting you have to do with braking. I honestly think a big brake kit is overkill especially starting out. Also not sure how deep you want to dive into class based events but BBKs will throw you into other classes with more prepped cars + more experienced drivers. I'd try to stay as close to stock as possible for now.
Great first fan one take Zack! Congrats! So happy the series is continuing under you guidance, knowledge and enthusiasm.
Recently I bought a 4 door Eg from Sketch in a trailer park, and I can honestly say coming from my old Miata i really feel like I’m learning how to drive foreal
(i learned manual on my Miata)
The Miata was fun but I always felt like I was just driving some crazy loud go kart lol but the civic has taught me certain things that I never EVER would have been able to figure out in the Miata.
After watching this video it’s given me a lot of confidence to just slow down and just work on the stock block for now.
I live in Ga and the car scene here is pretty judgy so I always felt pressured to do a swap or go for boost 😂
But Thank you so much for the Tips.
Hopefully mine looks as good as yours in the near future
Maybe better?👀 Jkjk😂
Own a 2008 VW Rabbit with a similar build sheet. All suspension, brakes and tires. No HP to speak of... But such fun to drive!
A little root style supercharger would really set this apart. Cool little build for some twisty roads.
Sergio Aguirre jeez I bet you’re no fun at parties.
Sergio Aguirre so angry
Sergio Aguirre depends on how you shop. I got my D15b for 500$ and the Jackson racing kit used for another 500. Swapped on a spare y7 crank pulley and now it’s running around 10lbs. The torque is unbeatable from 3k on. You better have a mildly built b series to be close. Wish it would blow up so I could go for big power. It’s just fun as hell and I love the sounds it makes. Always have people yelling from cars asking yo is that shit supercharged bro!?
Sergio Aguirre never ran it in the 1/4. Have ran a bunch of stuff from a roll that’s low 13 high 12s supposedly and pulled on them. The thing is where I’m at the lights are close together and people can’t drive. They sit and spin. It’s fun beating up on people that have the same car with damn near double the power. I’m not a straight line guy anyway. The car is basically set up for autocross as I love ripping some of the cool back roads around me. Haven’t had one of the turbo Honda’s hang with me on the back roads. When ever it does blow up whatever I do swap in will be supercharged too. The instant and linear power just fit the way I like to drive my car. If I got a meth kit It would help a lot but I honestly just don’t care. I’m not telling everyone this is what you should do but if your already running a single cam and find a kit for cheap I would say go for it. Super easy to install and I still have ice cold ac. Problem is they are hard to find and getting expensive. They are consistently going for 2k or more on eBay when they do pop up. Don’t pay that much though it’s not even close to worth it. Like you said just swap it at that point. The swaps always cost more than what you plan. The stupid little shit is what adds up quick.
Just give me one takes of matt putting on his sheathes imho
Dafq
Whoa wait a minute.
Love the way zack actually lets the car owner actually explain about the car.
Thanks for keeping this kind of One Takes alive Zack!
Great job Zack! Keep these going! Don’t let Matt end the one takes haha. I’ll love to see a 2010-2014 gt500 featured on the one takes. Matt never featured one on his one takes
+1 for "Ball pouch" ad!
Great smoking tire! Can’t beat cheap reliable fun👍🏻
I remember the Audi V10 video Zack did way back, good to see him back in the hot seat
Glad to see you let someone else take over the smoking tire instead of it just going by the waste side.
Driving a slow car fast is so much more enjoyable

One Take lives on
shoutout to rob @chewerks. get all my s2k work done there. Glad to see a lot more customer cars out in the wild.
I think the car would have felt a lot faster if you were doing the drive by yourself. Nothing personal to the owner i actually really like the guy. Its just little cars like this seem to feel WAAAAY slower with an extra 170-200 pounds in the car per person. when I am rolling 3 deep in my celica it feels like it loses 50 hp
“when i moved to LA i had an sti” same bro, same
Don't let this distract you from the fact that Hector is gonna be running 3 Honda Civic's with spoon engines. On top of that he just came into Harry's and ordered 3 t66 turbo's with NOS's and a Motec System Exhaust.
So happy to see Zach!! He Killed it!
Goodjob zack. Glad to see you doing your new project.
Great debut Zack, your perspective and analogies are always on point!
Damn zack your not driving mrs daisy step on it..😂😂
Overall, I thought Zack did a great job but I would like to see more stats about the car. Maybe what the redline is or what transmission is in it. Honestly I think that there is no better person than Zack to continue the one takes.
Zack's cool. I like Zack.
I respect the shit out of Matt’s hustle. That underwear is legit too.
hes got the cars the cameras and the dillions one take recipe for sucess right here go zack
Welcome Zack our new one-taker! You did a great job in your debut. I look forward to many more of these.
Honda's have always been a well balanced vehicle, that's easy to drop a swap in an take advantage of the power to weight ratio. t's good to see these back... can't wait for the next!
Great Job Zack, I think this was much more informal than if Matt would have done this as you are still very curious.
These cars are so fun to drive.
Awesome owner. Great call on your first one, Zack!
Zack starts with the beaters, then works his way up :D
I love my 8th gen Si, but I miss my EK and EG everyday. There’s such a classic, raw feeling when driving a 90-00’s Civic. Before some obnoxious “gentlemen” says it, I know there are faster and greater cars out there. I don’t care, I like having money to do more with my life than let a car rule my wallet 24/7. I mean, why go through this life using cars/racing as an excuse for your financial instability or self-destructive tendencies. Maybe that was too deep. Whatever, I love this video. Showing it to my grand kids.
Type of car that feels fast going at a moderate pace which is cool.
Sheath "A Frunk for your Junk"
I was thinking it's a good place to store some ball powder
Yah pit some ball powder there and yo shit will stay cool and dry and overall vtec kicking in no problem.
Single overhead cam, cheap and easy to mod, love it! The car has an amazing suspension set-up with good name brand parts
Sweet! I'm stoked for the new one takes. It'll take some time to adjust but it's gonna be so good! Keep it up :)
This same mantra applies with motorcycles as well. All too often I see guys go out and buy a 1000cc sport bike and think they are king shit until they get to a curve and a 600cc or less blows by them like they are standing still.. I always tell people start with the smallest bike you can comfortably fit on and go from there. Go slow to get smooth and once you are smooth you will be fast.
Good job on this video it was great!
I like this so far. But then I also have a single cam civic that was bought for learning time. Though mine was not built when I bought it... Almost there though.
Zach is so dreamy. You should put him in the cars more.
Oh BEM, you and your early 2000s punky looks. - ZK
