      try a 92-95 era civic sometime, they are scary good drivers cars, extremely reliable, parts are extremely cheap. you can drive it flat out and not be freaking out of cops or endangering crowds. many smiles per gallon to be had. easily my favorite car I've ever owned was a 92 ex coupe and I'm currently driving a AP2

      Definitely. Everyone's arguing over cars that are separated by 5 seconds at the Nurburgring when 99% of us can't take these sports and hypercars to even 7/10ths the limit. Stuff like this (and Miata, of course) can teach you a lot about how cars work and behave at the limit.

    Hello everyone! It’s nice to see my old car getting a little bit of limelight in the hands of its new owner. I’m glad that it went to a great home and is still being taken to the track to serve as a dual-purpose car as I had intended it to be.
    For anyone that is familiar with the tracks in SoCal, here is a list of my best times that I was able to achieve with this car (for the ones interested, you can find a few in-car videos on my CZcams channel 🍻):
    •ACS Infield - 1:20.129 (9/23/17)

    This guy gets it......
    When I was younger went from boosted to boosted builds, from bmw to subie to rb25s.......
    About five years back I got a 1969 karmann ghia, it thought me that my whole life I had depended on my cars to make me fast. The ghia forced me to become a better driver, few years later got an MKii Jetta carat, NOW THAT car thought me how to really drive. Recently modded up the mkii, made it a carburated conversion on the 8v with a built head and cam. The went to town on suspension.
    The Mkii is funner than any of my old high value high power cars..........
    Driver mod development > everything else.

    This is how I approached my '93 Civic coupe. Engine mods are just an AEM CAI, and a used DC 4-2-1 header.
    Suspension was KYB AGX's paired with Ground Controls. A Cusco front upper strut tower bar also. I lowered the front about an inch lower than the rear to put more weight on the drive wheels. Stiffened the rear AGX's to 4, and fronts to 2.
    At 40 PSI on stock tires and wheels, there would be little understeer, and throttle on the turn would cause to the car to rotate amazingly and predictably.
    I knew my Civic was setup well when I lost this "crew" of three Type-R's repeatedly in the technical parts of a track, each lap. That, plus great braking and heel-toeing.

Some people don’t realize that you don’t need 1000whp to have fun in a car. Sometimes a great handling, short geared, sub 200hp car is all you need to put a smile on your face. What an awesome car! It looks and sounds great! Thanks for sharing this great build! I’ll bet most of your subs passed this episode up because the thumbnail looked boring. Too bad for them😩. I think the most fun car I ever had was my 2005 5-spd manual Civic LX Sedan. Or my 1972 MG Midget, or my 1969 VW Beetle. Well, you get my point!

    I love the conversation you guys had. Y’all got the point across. It’s not about adding more hp or aero to get a better lap time. It’s about working on your driving skills to get better lap times. Then you compare that to others in the same class or to the laptime other ppl are getting with similar setup. That’s how you know if you’re driving is improving. So many CZcamsrs just add hp and aero to improve lap times, but they just put themselves in another class or level where the lap times are way below what similar cars with same hp and aero are getting. You can add aero, but other ppl with the same car are getting faster lap times without aero. That’s the wrong approach to improving lap times.

    This really made me think, I’m 17 recently bought a mkvi GTI. I no longer am saving up for a new tune for my car but brakes suspension and track days. I drove my dads stock ‘09 civic for over a year so I became used to the lower power and love the current GTI but I obviously still have much to learn about driving

    • @dlombana161
      @dlombana161 Před 6 lety +3

      Perfect place to start man, as you probably know by now the good old MKVI and actually all non PP equipped MKVIIs (this gets even more confusing for 2019) use a ABS-reliant eLSD. So if you can beef up those brakes you're addressing one of the main things that will keep you on track longer, cooling those poor overworked brakes. Before going down the rabbit hole of springs/coils look into some chassis bracing, a lot of the more trackday minded guys had good feedback on those.
      Don't feel too bad about the power difference between generations, later you can always get a reflash. Most say a 'Stage 1' MKVI feels about where a stock MKVII puts you on the power curve.

      D Lombana what break kits would your recommend? I know my pads burn up pretty fast due to my spirited driving style. Obviously I know of brembo but those seems so expensive. What would be an affordable, bang for the buck upgrade from the stock steel?

      Some stickier tyres will also help to.

    • @dlombana161
      @dlombana161 Před 6 lety

      Bang for the buck would be some Hawk HPS pads with some Motul RBF600 fluid and like Anton Peterson mentioned, definitely some good performance summer tires. The better grip you have the less correcting you have to do with braking. I honestly think a big brake kit is overkill especially starting out. Also not sure how deep you want to dive into class based events but BBKs will throw you into other classes with more prepped cars + more experienced drivers. I'd try to stay as close to stock as possible for now.

    Recently I bought a 4 door Eg from Sketch in a trailer park, and I can honestly say coming from my old Miata i really feel like I’m learning how to drive foreal
    (i learned manual on my Miata)
    The Miata was fun but I always felt like I was just driving some crazy loud go kart lol but the civic has taught me certain things that I never EVER would have been able to figure out in the Miata.
    After watching this video it’s given me a lot of confidence to just slow down and just work on the stock block for now.
    I live in Ga and the car scene here is pretty judgy so I always felt pressured to do a swap or go for boost 😂
    But Thank you so much for the Tips.
    Hopefully mine looks as good as yours in the near future
    Maybe better?👀 Jkjk😂

      @upon1gsxr600 Před 6 lety

      Sergio Aguirre depends on how you shop. I got my D15b for 500$ and the Jackson racing kit used for another 500. Swapped on a spare y7 crank pulley and now it’s running around 10lbs. The torque is unbeatable from 3k on. You better have a mildly built b series to be close. Wish it would blow up so I could go for big power. It’s just fun as hell and I love the sounds it makes. Always have people yelling from cars asking yo is that shit supercharged bro!?

    • @upon1gsxr600
      @upon1gsxr600 Před 6 lety

      Sergio Aguirre never ran it in the 1/4. Have ran a bunch of stuff from a roll that’s low 13 high 12s supposedly and pulled on them. The thing is where I’m at the lights are close together and people can’t drive. They sit and spin. It’s fun beating up on people that have the same car with damn near double the power. I’m not a straight line guy anyway. The car is basically set up for autocross as I love ripping some of the cool back roads around me. Haven’t had one of the turbo Honda’s hang with me on the back roads. When ever it does blow up whatever I do swap in will be supercharged too. The instant and linear power just fit the way I like to drive my car. If I got a meth kit It would help a lot but I honestly just don’t care. I’m not telling everyone this is what you should do but if your already running a single cam and find a kit for cheap I would say go for it. Super easy to install and I still have ice cold ac. Problem is they are hard to find and getting expensive. They are consistently going for 2k or more on eBay when they do pop up. Don’t pay that much though it’s not even close to worth it. Like you said just swap it at that point. The swaps always cost more than what you plan. The stupid little shit is what adds up quick.

    I love my 8th gen Si, but I miss my EK and EG everyday. There’s such a classic, raw feeling when driving a 90-00’s Civic. Before some obnoxious “gentlemen” says it, I know there are faster and greater cars out there. I don’t care, I like having money to do more with my life than let a car rule my wallet 24/7. I mean, why go through this life using cars/racing as an excuse for your financial instability or self-destructive tendencies. Maybe that was too deep. Whatever, I love this video. This same mantra applies with motorcycles as well. All too often I see guys go out and buy a 1000cc sport bike and think they are king shit until they get to a curve and a 600cc or less blows by them like they are standing still.. I always tell people start with the smallest bike you can comfortably fit on and go from there. Go slow to get smooth and once you are smooth you will be fast.
