Absolutely love this channel! So informative!
Reed can you talk about how mrbeast gets 90% CTR
Mr beast has actually said it himself, he said showy thumbnails and clickbaitey titles, except that he lives up to them and thus had gained a reputation for it
I'd love to hear more about that
Mr beast talked about it on the h3h3 podcast
Around 30:00 you guys mention there not being many Twitch streamers finding big success on CZcams. I 100% agree I think a lot of streamers set their standards for viewership too low and there's an unbelievable amount of missed opportunity. I think the main thing big Twitch streamers have to overcome is feeling like their chat is "left out" when they record a video live.
However, I'd maybe point you guys towards a streamer that has seen some success on CZcams: SypherPK. He streams 200 hours a month on twitch, but has also been proactively recording CZcams content for his main Fortnite channel (4.5M), his second channel (1.1M) and his newly launched Variety channel Sypher Plays (275k). My job has been helping him for the last 2 years with editing, thumbnail/titles and most importantly coming up with unique video ideas. Its like the "creative director" role you mentioned was so in demand. (btw, really reassured me that there's demand for what I'm doing now 😅)
We don't pull hundreds of millions of views a month like Jelly, Preston, Slogoman.. etc. but we've been around 65-90M across the three channels for a few months now. Still "small time" numbers, but we've been able to hang with the big players on the Gaming Trending page. Some Twitch streamers have caught the "CZcams itch" and have started to create some amazing curated content, like Nickmercs and TimTheTatman. Hopefully we see more people follow suit.
PS: these first 2 episodes have been SO informative and interesting. Can't wait for the next one!
Can you share little bit about your job more, if anybody want to learn Editing Thumbnail any recommendations you have Thanks

Creator fatigue -,,It's about creating that support system"
The problem of hiring talent, especially for streamers who could be doing much more than just grinding it out on twitch. Very interesting points!
I'd love to give my opinion on this as someone who could possibly be a creative director/videographer for a creator in the future. And I've love to know your thoughts on how you guys think twitch streamers will approach creating content for youtube with a support system in the coming years.
I think the Athlete vs Creator comparison was interesting. I do agree that Athletes are trying to keep up in that race for attention. But I think twitch streamers have the same problem to some extend. CZcams is so much bigger with a much larger user base. Streamers might not be athletes but most of them are definitely too busy to put real effort into content pieces for youtube specifically. And they limiting themselves massively because of it.
This whole text is very focused on twitch streamers and how they could create content for youtube rather than CZcamsrs getting that support system. A lot of it is about why I think there are very few creative directors in the space.
[For some context] I've grown up playing games and competing in WoW (25k hours+ played). I've been on Twitch pretty much daily since 2012 and I've been actively consuming content on CZcams since 2010~. I'm 25 now. I've worked hundreds of hours for free to get my foot in the door.
As a videographer, I got to work with sponsors of teams like Fnatic/Astralis/Furia/method and at around 15 poker events on which creators got invited to promote the tournament.
I'm far from super experienced but I think I do understand the space from this perspective.
The point that Blake made about Editors shooting their shot was great and I very much so agree with it.
The same probably goes for thumbnail artists. It's a lot different for directors or even videographers though, the entry to practice your craft and then promote yourself is very high. Traditional film school or any other videos are so different from content for creators imo. It's almost like you have to be a failed creator who can put the acquired skill set to use for someone else or you have to learn it by doing it, if you somehow end up in that circle of people. You need to live in an expensive city most of the time, if you're a videographer you also need at least $10k for the PC/Camera Gear to deliver a decent product. You need a strong portfolio. A lot of Orgs hire people fulltime now rather than hiring freelancers all the time, so even getting your foot in the door that way is becoming more difficult.
The budget is a problem. The people who will fill positions like this probably need to be the videographer and the creative director at the same time. Maybe even edit the content to make the budget work. The kind of person to fill that position for a creator/streamer doesn't only need to shoot/document and edit the content, but also understand the creator scene on a whole nother level while also planning and directing those content formats. It's almost like a DROCK 2.0 on Gfuel. I think it's a very unique skill set that is very hard to get good at if you're not already in the middle of it.
One of the biggest Creators in Germany said something interesting while rating editor applications the other day. He talked about how specific the skill set of creating thumbnails is. You only really learn how to create them by exactly doing that specific thing. There are a lot of people who have insane photoshop skills, but very few of them are great at creating thumbnails. I think it's similar for videographers/directors. There are lot of people who can handle a camera but...
I think another problem with creative directors is close to the dynamic of creators giving up the control of their editing.
Convincing a creator to let you edit their videos for them is one thing (you make their lives easier and they can upscale as soon as a good editor has been found). Seems like a no-brainer as soon as the ball gets rolling. But convincing a streamer to stream less when they finally made it to the top 0.01% and then also sacrificing their valuable time so you can produce/direct content for/with them is another story.
From my experience often times streamers are also very hesitant in investing in their growth/channels/content from a financial aspect, even if they're already making $15k+/month or more (top 0.01% obviously make more than that too)
So currently Orgs are the only/best solution to really get streamers to be more than just streamers or highlight channel andys?
100T is probably the best example regarding their content house. Or maybe Offline TV before things went south. I'd love to see an agency try to create that system just for one of their creators to elevate their brand and potential to grow on youtube. Or maybe a group of creators.
The sidemen are a very interesting example for this as well. They come up with their ideas themselves as far as I know and plan a lot of it too.
I believe they do have a crew at some shoots, but a lot of it seems to be very run and gun with just one person filming while each creator has a camera on their own. Their content is getting an insane amount of views and they are all growing together.
A big brand could try this too. Find a house close to where the creator lives, let the creator find an editor and also bring a videographer/director to the house and rent it for 6 months. I recently pitched this to a friend who is a big streamer. For example, find a brand related to cooking. A weekly cooking show that is made for youtube but gets streamed too. Not too serious, just personalities doing their thing with some production value. The brand gets 4 content pieces and streams a month, the streamer gets x amount of money or funds for the house and the crew hire the crew part-time. Streamers stream 5-6 days anyways so hiring people fulltime wouldn't be necessary maybe. They could still do a their own stuff and live rent-free. Which would solve the problem for lot of hungry talent that normally would not be able to move to LA or whatever but is part of the community already.
An editor/videographer/director who knows the community of the streamer and is friends with him obviously would be better than a random person who lives in LA etc... - I think this concept could work really well if the right people are involved. It's kind of like SeatGeek enabling Dobrik to create cool videos with cars... but instead, it's a content house that leads to even more videos and possibilities for the creator.
It would enable the creator and his friends to work together on something bigger, that whole narrative works on it's own. Lots of parallels to Dobriks first SeatGeek video ever where he got his friend tickets for a game that meant a lot to him. Giving friends that the creator cares about opportunities.
It also could be a video podcast on all platforms sponsored by the brand rather than having to find such a specific sponsor...
Courage Nadeshot Show x Cashapp...
So if anybody made it this far, how would you go about shooting your shot as a videographer with the potential to direct content too?
Who do you think will be the first twitch streamer who will really push youtube content pieces on a mr beast level?
My guess would be Ludwig or maybe Mizkif and his crew.
Excited for more episodes! Not sure what came over me to write all of this.
Interesting conversation, thanks guys. Coming from an SEO and digital marketing perspective especially your theory about losing CTR when using links made me think. I would agree when you use direct links to the video. But I don’t get why a link on the yt Channel or a specific search would not count into CTR. What do I miss here?
Great content Reed, between this and Devin Nash I'm learning quite a bit about how the business works. Instasubbed
i love this podcast
Love the channel boys. I've got a podcast myself that's getting some traction and I'm curious if either of you are available for consulting - paid of course. Regardless, this is a great resource!
39:52 The problem with decentralization of that data is that you'll end up with an even bigger market to buy it. We have this problem in email marketing is bought email lists. Some businesses have built their success off of buying email addresses without any consent. I imagine that'd happen if you could have a direct access to their data in terms of CZcams or Tiktok. And you have the problem of cutting the middle man in this case, out of the equation.
Leaving a comment so I can come back to this in three years and be grateful that I got some insights from this podcast.
This is amazing
Wow never knew that people watching from Instagram and twitter dont count as watch time and views thanks for the advice.
damn this is a good podcast
Did fwiz ever confirm your theory on third party CTR

I'm an editor that understands lots of styles. I'm watching this to try and grow my editing. Do you have a suggestion on how to find people looking for editors?
MrBeast is hiring right now, check his twitter :)
How does someone apply to be a creative director or even thumbnail artists for these creators? It seems next to impossible to get your foot in the door in front of them.
send them 100 thumbnails

How does one create or locate a Creative Director position like this?
As a humanities & design educator, helping kids/teens - even those that do not view themselves as capable or creative - transform their creative visions into tangible product has been my life’s work. If I could be a creative director for a CZcamsr like
Mr. Beast who has such a vested interest in improving the lives of others, that would be phenomenal.
As an educator, much of my past work has been done with next to no budget as schools are absurdly underfunded and teaching jobs are preposterously underpaid. We're talking at the level of working with little more than cardboard, duct tape, and a whiteboard. If I had even just 1% of what
Mr. Beast purportedly takes in per month...I mean, just imagine...because I have, and I'm working on it now.
I'm at a crossroads right now due not only to the catastrophes of 2020 in general, but what I've gone through in the years leading up to 2020 too, and as I'm keeping my eyes peeled and ears to the ground to explore new opportunities like what you both are discussing here, the only thing I know for certain that I want to do moving forward is work on my educational CZcams series ENGAGE! where my mission is to make game-based learning of all varieties more accessible to educators everywhere (czcams.com/users/engageshow).
(cc'd on Twitter - hope to hear back from you one way or another!)
So much value in this episode! Pls check your DM for a shout our from Indian Creators 🙌🏼
