    Is this a tribute Pin? That's the feel that I get. A tribute to Barry Oursler.

      It is also still better than every jersey jack theme ever

      @@jasperj806 For sure, I don't want to be mean, but an Elton John pin???? What a waste of a machine. Who is their target audience? like 1% of pinball players. What a waste of a pin.

    Great show as always guys. There is limited content like this for the pinball community. I enjoy watching your podcast, streams and tutorials 😎 I cheer for American Pinball, however this last game from them has me scratching my head as well

    Yikes. I could imagine walking into Costco seeing they told Arcade 1up to make them a home pin for $2599.

    Why does everything have to have a license?

    • @josembeth8504
      @josembeth8504 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Agree! best machines of the 90s don´t have licence: Circus Voltaire, Theatre Of Magic, Tales From Arabian Night... but this BBQ...the game is so weird and looks so simple in my opinion (i didn´t play it)

    Wouldt people be more interested in this if it was Guy Fierri’s bbq challenge?

    • @hectorgodinez
      @hectorgodinez Před 5 měsíci +2

      Absolutely. An American road trip of DDDs would be awesome. I doubt the license would have been backbreaking.

    After years of nothing but licensed IP games, it's refreshing to see an original concept. I guess younger players aren't aware that these types of themes were the norm until around 2005.

    • @BuffaloPinball
      @BuffaloPinball  Před 4 měsíci

      There’s been plenty of original themes in the past few years: Total Nuclear Annihilation, Dialed In, Black Knight: Sword of Rage, Galactic Tank Force, Celts, Legends of Valhalla, Mafia, P3 games like Heist, Final Resistance, Cosmic Cart Racing and Lexy Lightspeed -- hell even stuff like Space Hunt and Punny Factory, and upcoming games like Ninja Eclipse.

      @@lr4165 Your post implied this was the first original concept game “after years of nothing but licensed IP.” That’s simply not true. There have been plenty and they regularly sell less than licensed games. People always say they want original themes but there’s a reason why so many games come with licenses these days - because themes instantly connect with players on location and for purchases to the home.

    I had a lot of fun playing this game and look forward to playing it more! The theme is whatever, doesn't appeal to me, I am actually a vegetarian. I thought I'd give it a try since it's a new pin, played a few games and surprisingly had a great time! It might even be my favorite American Pinball game thus far. Also it inspired me look up Barry Oursler and found out he designed so many legendary tables including my favorite, Bride of Pinbot. I would say it's definitely a game worth checking out!

    I played this on location last Saturday and I gotta say....it stunk. Empty playfiel and the shots were not intuitive. It looks better in person though. Not for me, especially at that price.

    Toy Story 4 is the worst pinball theme for me. The pinball machine itself isn't bad. BBQ Story 4. Yes!

      Toy Story is a decent theme but picking the 4th movie was strange. I guess it’s for the carnival theme? Would’ve been cooler if it focused on the first two.

    Everyone loves BBQ, but a BBQ-themed pinball machine? My issue is that my brain automatically thinks of burning wood, a grill and BBQ sauce. It is like making a pinball game on Chinese food, or Indian food.
    Simple food items like hot dogs, burgers or pizza would have made a better theme. BBQ is just too vague.
    They would have been better literally making a Burgertime pin.

    For those of us who have aged to where our circle of family, friends and workmates have received colostomy's; a portion of the cancer diagnosis suspects a connection to a heavy diet of barbecue/grilled food. The fact that Barry lost his battle with cancer and his legacy game is named "Barry O' Barbecue Challenge" is progressively odd.

    Cabinet artwork design became awful around the mid-eighties already, with the printed decalls. I prefer the simple stencilled cabinets (painted wood). Artwork used to be better before that, also the backglass and playfield artwork. From the nineties it was all about the gameplay, not aesthetics.

    1. Boomers are growing weirder and weirder by the day.
    2. You know they were sitting around the brainstorming table and someone said "Nothing more American than BBQ" and they ran with it.
    3. If this game is sitting next to virtually ANY game in a parlor, it will not get played except by a boomer.
