  • Clutch Master Cylinder Clutch Start Switch Removal and Replacement. The Clutch Start Switch prevents the engine from starting until the clutch pedal is pushed to the floor, a safety feature. On Ford, Mazda, Dodge, Ram, and Jeep applications R&R can be tricky until you see the technique. Our Tech Support callers requested a video to demonstrate the procedures.

    Thanks very much for the tutorial. Lost my cruise control and I had tried everything: at least I thought I had. Even a diagnostic indicated that it was the clock spring but I wasn’t buying it since horn blew and the cc switches lit up. Kept searching and found your procedure for replacing the switch and that it was possible this effected my cc. Once I got a good look it I could see several wron areas and breaks in the switch. Tools included a head lamp, a bench for laying my feet on as they hung out the door. My granddaughters stuffed animal to lay my head on under the console on the floor and lastly the nerve to just do it. It took me all of 45min and it was done. The first test was would it start, and that passed sat. The second was the test drive and now I have cruise. Your video saved me $100’s thanks much. Jeff

    FOR ANYBODY TRYING TO CHANGE JUST THE PUSHROD WITHOUT REMOVING THE MASTER.
    All you need is a cheap ink pen. Pull the pen apart so all that you have left is the tube. The tube has the exact inside and outside diameters for this job! Cut the tube in half, then put a slice all the way down one side of it, long ways, so you can open it up and wrap it around the pushrod(don't cut the tube into 2 pieces). Once you wrap it around the rod, hold pressure on the rod twords the master and take a pair of pliers and work the tube in so that it gets between the rod and the master to release the two locking tabs. The rod will pop right out. Its actually very very easy! Hope this helps👍

    Thanks for the video! This is the only place I could find that shows how to remove the Ranger switch. I was figuring the push rod had to come off somehow, because that's how the new switch comes. I wanted to remove my old one for a friend, and was about to give up and let it go to the scrapyard along with my wrecked truck. One day later and it would have been gone!

I was contorted like a snake trying to get a proper look at how to disconnect the switch and even used a few bad words, usually reserved for when I smash my finger with a hammer, but to no avail. I just could not see how to get the thing out. Then I looked here on CZcams and found this video, When I went back out to the truck, I had the switch out in two minutes,,,and with no fowl language whatsoever! Thanks!

    Man what a great video, i did have one question though,when you say "you get one chance to lock that in" what do you mean? reason i ask is because a buddy of mines clutch messed up tonight and we are going to work on it tomorrow, it is the first style you showed and we did mess with it a bit tonight and i remember i reached under the dash and that part that you mentioned that locks in actually came out with no trouble at all, what i think happened is the retainer that holds the rod to the clutch pedal broke and the whole rod and interlock switch just fell out in my hands.this clutch is like a year old so its basically new, maybe the person that installed it previously didn't snap it in place at the slave cylinder?

  • @07LUTE70
    @07LUTE70 Před měsícem

    How do you remove the old push rod that has the quick disconnect end. When buying the replacement clutch pedal position switch they give you the whole unit which consists of new shaft with switch on it ready to install, but you can't get the old rod out. Do you have to use a quick disconnect tool? My old one is rusty. And it looks like one you removed from the jeep set up with the little white plastic retainer and the two tangs that you have to squeeze and pull back to remove. Do you think that someone could have rigged the jeep one Ina ford ranger? Because this is a quagmire that I'm faced with. All sources are telling me that the one you call the ford part is not like mine. It looks exactly like the jeep one . How can that be?

It would have saved a lot of time and trouble. Otherwise a person will end up unscrewing the main bracket from the firewall. Other than that, very helpful.
