    In this video I’ll give you a run down on how I found, restored, and modified one of the most iconic arcade racing machines ever made, Daytona USA! The main components I used in this machine’s build can be found below.

    Back in the day, you walked into an arcade, noisy and crowded but you always listened for that “Day -E- Tone-Naaaaaah!”, then followed the sound like a zombie! Excellent work on bring us back!

      ​@@cooltoyFor me, the sounds that would stick out for me most would be a combination of Pac Man eating pellets, the Pole Position red to green start along with the "Get ready" from Space Harrier.

    Not sure what's more impressive, the Daytona 2 and Sega 3 board in an original Daytona USA cabinet, or the Aladdins Castle shirt from the Battlefield Mall. I swear I spent every coin I had trading it for Aladdins tokens and hitting it up after walking through the food court in Springfield. Great memories!

    love me some arcade racing! cool to see the old daytona cab get a slick looking makeover. there's quite a few I loved playing in the arcade: outrun 2, intiial d, wangan midnight, daytona usa, super gt, crazy taxi... and every so often the new cruis'n is fun too.

    I love Daytona USA so much. Always hoped arcade 1up could bring it to life. Don’t know if they could do it justice though.

      I don't think Arcade1Up would do the game any favors, they have had a pretty poor track record as of late.

      @@cooltoy I got the same taste bro, love all the bright t-molding! Makes the cabinets and artwork pop so nice. I got 100’ of bright red 3/4” t-molding in my garage for my cabinet I’m building this spring/summer.

    That thing had more covid on it per square inch than any other piece of furniture in the Northern Hemisphere :D Juus kiddin', simply *amazing* work my man, that must be hugely rewarding, what an accomplishment. There's a new game, Turbo Outrun Reimagined that just came out, thats maybe one to try, but dont think it has force feedback. Great work mate, congratulations!

      Nice! Down the road I’m likely going to add an actual seat from a racing cabinet like that. The pedestal on this unit is fine for me, but my little nephews come over for gaming and they will struggle to see the screen without a boost

      @cooltoy If you want the full size one is less rare so maybe trade a collector that has one of you keep the original parts from this one you might get a full one and then you won’t need to convert it. AFAIK the pedestal is also rare on this unit so treat it and its parts kindly.
      If I was in the states and owned the full cab I’d trade you, as I’ve always wanted the standup version.

    Awesome build, and hard to beat the end cost. I have never seen a stand up Daytona USA. Any place that had a Daytona always had at least a 2 seat, while most had 4. Local mallcade is great with an 8 seater, with FFB seats. And i have never seen one of the cars down. Same place has a 5 player The Grid.

    Great work! I had a two player sit down Daytona in my garage for a bit. It was a honker and unreliable. Yours seems like a great mix of “original feel” but updated reliability and the multi game is a big plus.

    This is sweet chances are the original owners used a conversion kit. I know sega sold them for vf2/3 to convert older cabinets.

    Cool build! I followed your a1up pinball screen mod! Would you be able to share how you configured the wheel for each game in a separate video? Working on converting a cab to driving cab and everything works but struggling to get the wheel working with each game/emulator.

      Unless you are using the exact same wheel and encoders as I did I couldn’t really help you out in that aspect as how I set up my games would be completely unique compared to your set up with different hardware

    I am currently rehabbing a Ghouls 'n Ghosts arcade. What kind of black paint would you recommend to use for the side of the cabinet?

      Satin Black is typically what I use, as it's a nice middle ground between Flat and Glossy Black.

      @@dennyk2294 I’ve never had that issue, just make sure the paint has had ample time to dry and the temperature in your work space is adequate when applying the graphics

    Is it easy to get an arcade shifter to work with your PC?

      Shifters are easy as they just use micro switches and can be connected to a pc with just about any kind of usb encoder. The tricky connections are pedals and steering as those require analog input signals to be read by specialized usb encoders

      Correct, stand up Daytona arcades didn't have force feedback

      I need to do a similar project! Get Scud Race/Super GT on there if you don't already. Runs really well on the model3 emu

    Any reason why you couldn't have just sanded the old art off rather than scraping it off?

      Typically it just sands the surface graphic off and then creates a horrendous mess when it gets to the sticker residue on these old machines

    It’s not complete because you left all that rust around the shifter and that beat down artwork on the control panel, get in there and get it 100% 😂

      That control panel graphic is "unobtanium" so I'm glad it was as in decent enough condition as it is. The rust just adds character 😆
