Hang in there sis, you are doing great. I started three months ago and still have not even one client. I just realised how hard it is to get client's as an international bookkeeper but I am not giving up. I have invested too much to give up now.

I am so happy you made this video! I am currently working in a school as a Bookkeeper. I worked for a CPA doing bookkeeping for her clients for 3 years and it fell apart in 2008 when the economy crashed. I am now 56 years old, and would love to start a side hussle to have built up before retirement years so I can have something to bring in extra income. I have a lot of self doubt. Back then I used QuickBooks so I am familiar. Fear is holding me back!

Oh my gosh, I have never felt so able to relate to anyone on CZcams LOL. I’m positive I have said that “make yourself the star in your movie” line to myself in the past and then just laughed out loud when my cynical brain kicked back in. I’ve commented in the past, but again, thank you so much for making these videos. I’m just a few weeks behind you and your insight in invaluable. It’s like seeing into the future lol. And it’s been a way I can have some proof that this is possible when talking to my husband. When I watch anything too “perfect”, we both get skeptical and think it’s probably a scam of some kind ( especially since so many people talking about becoming a bookkeeper also just happen to sell a course...) I can’t believe you have 6 clients already! We’re you able to do what you wanted and keep them all from your community or did you get someone online? Was it all from word of mouth from your first client or two or is there any connection?I’m just so nervous about finding clients, but I’m almost ready to start putting the word out there, just have to get a few last things in place.

I really am so happy that you feel this way! I'm trying to keep my perspective honest and real and raw. I'm so happy to read that you're getting close to getting out there and work on getting clients! All of my clients, except for one, as within my community. I know you'll be able to get clients, but get comfortable first and then GO FOR IT :)

Thank you for this video. In 2020 before I got pregnant with my 15 month old son, I started a financial coaching business through Dave Ramsey and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever worked on. I hated the social media and content creation and once I got down to brass tacks, I realized I also didn’t even want to be coaching! It took me this long to discover I’d much rather be a bookkeeper, but that failed business has really put the brakes on me and I’m not sure I have it in me to start again. Especially now that I’m a mom.
Appreciate your candor and input. I hope you start making videos again ❤

It is a lot of work to run your own business. I had my business for 6 years that was successful because of all of my hard work. You are wearing a lot of hats and doing all of the things. But it’s so worth it at the end. You are totally right, you have to LOVE what you do or you will feel unmotivated and give up. Now that I started my bookkeeping business, I LOVE it and do not regret it. I’m one of those that you mentioned with a degree in accounting and a ton of experience working for CPA firms and still questioning myself. But you know what? Things that are new (like the legal stuff for some businesses), there’s Google to search anything you need to find out. I hope you don’t give up and keep going. I’ve been loving following your journey.

Hello and thank you very much for the realistic insights and being brave enough to be vulnerable. I discovered you this morning and have been binge watching through my day. I have been seriously considering being a virtual bookkeeper, but felt I should go through a course first. What are your thoughts on taking one of the bookkeeping courses out there? I am not crazy about accounting, but did take some classes in college. I prefer bookkeeping. I have been in the affordable housing property management industry for going on 11 years now. I am burned out and the only motivator to keep going right now is the roof over my head it provides. Like someone else commented , I am going to be 55 this year and want to get a jump on something to supplement currently and to have in place as retirement years approach. I also want to be able to work from wherever I want to travel to (e.g. a month with my parents, a month or two with my adult children and grandchildren...). Sorry for the lengthy comment. I really would like to know your thoughts on taking a course. Ok back to your videos. 🥰

All the best :)

Sounds like you enjoy bookkeeping but not marketing. Marketing is a necessary but very different skill and I wish it was something unnecessary. Truth seems to be like that good marketing can sell garbage, and at the same time ,high quality products ad services goes unnoticed without decent marketing.

Thank you for sharing your most recent video. Do you think you have the capabilities to be a bookkeeper? I would say, examine yourself, and see if you do. If you do, then do it. If not, then don't do it unless you want to learn more about bookkeeping.

  • @ihavenohair1975

Sounds to me that you enjoy the work but maybe not the business aspects? There are people who do all the things you said you don't really enjoy, like a VA. Maybe you're not there yet financially? But it can certainly be in your future, especially since you are growing your business fairly rapidly.
