Lost and Found: Indian’s FTR1200 Custom Is Music For Your Ears

- Cycle World got to ride the Indian FTR1200 Custom, the teaser to the 2019 FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S, long before anyone else. We made a ton of great content with it - so much content that a real gem was lost in our hard drives. We just found this beautiful study in sound and felt we needed to share it. Sit back, crank up the volume, and enjoy this soundtrack of awesomeness.
Indian's release of the FTR1200 Custom teased the production of its FTR 1200, a flat track-inspired street machine. Before the 2019 FTR 1200 model was released, Cycle World got the opportunity to ride the Custom. And we did a lot with it. Photoshoots, video shoots, interviews and test rides all happened and a large amount of content was created. So much that some of it never made it to our reader's eyes. Or ears.
This lost-and-found video was a concept of its own-a study in sound. No music, no talking. Just the bike and its surroundings. Grab some headphones, plug in, and sit back for 3:20 seconds of the FTR1200 Custom without any distractions. Enjoy.

Wake me up when that guy's done getting dressed, I'm taking a nap...
Ed Makowski all the clothing brands including bell had to sponsor the video. How else would they get funding to ride a motorcycle for a short video??
@@dwarfcargospel7581 a bit belabored. Lots of ways to fit in advertising, watching a guy get dressed for a third of the video isn't the only option.
I’m being sarcastic, I agree with you. It’s stupid when they do that.
I gotcha now @@dwarfcargospel7581. Sarcasm can be a challenge in just reading text sometimes.
Yoo Ed. He is done he is about to dr... never mind he is still dressing up.
Watched as pure motorcycle entertainment, and loved it. Great shots, great sound, great editing, fun watch. Thanks👍
Love the tail on this bike compared to what is being sold out on the showroom floor..
What jacket is he wearing ?
just bought a new Springfield Dark Horse, but make no mistake, the excitement about this bike is what brought me through the front door of an Indian dealership. I went to go see the dealer's FTR750.
Well done for not spoiling the sound of those pipes with faux rock music, like most bike vids do.
Loved this. Really captures the feeling of riding.
Cool ! This bike will be a huge success!
You know what'd be really cool?
If the bike actually looked like that.
Right?! Screw you too Indian
@@Cowboy.underwater They make a really cool looking bike, something never seen before. Then alter it with parts that makes it relatable to every other bike.
I mean 90% of it is just the high pipes which you can buy already. I'm assuming that the lawyers wouldn't let it out of the factory like that.
That's the reason I've stopped eating Mcdonald's.
yeah i'd like to see you dailyride a flattrack bike lmfao. They altered it so it could be driven by everyone in every situation, something this custom can't.
Wunderschön- kein Gerede, keine nervige Musik, perfekt! 👍
What a sound... pure eargasm!
Lust in the dust.
The first minute or so was reminiscent of every episode of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood!
Good thing those pegs are set back a bit- the unshielded pipes look blue and hot!
Great lil video. I love this bike. Shame I'll never have the pleasure of owning it...
Just loved that. I so wish they made a 750FTR.
Man that thing sounds awesome
Must have the Bell helmet, love the look and it goes with the Indian FTR.
The heavy crank of scout is quite audible and its sluggish rev is also feel in the earplugs
Awesome bike. Obnoxious exhaust note.
Rider is obviously lost. Keeps going around in circles.
Looking for Brian Laundrie
*Literal Goosebumps!!*
Perfect video!
sounds good
That is a beautiful bike....
I've watched this so many times
That was beautiful.
Excelente! Saludos desde Argentina.
Have you ever lived in a trailer cause you spent all your money on a bike?
I thought something like that.
I was just about to make this exact comment.. lol
Still, a $100K trailer. Goes with the bike :)
I mean, it's kinda worth it. *Kinda* .
I'm sold !
1:50 that was schweet. Put those wide bars and power to use! ✊🏻
Love this video thanks for sharing. This is actually my dream bike but I’m new to riding. It’ll be awhile Lord permitting before I am able to ride my own but before that could anyone tell me how you turn in the dirt like that, specifically!?! Are you using the front brake while leaning in the direction you want to go but steering in the opposite?
Thanks to anyone who replies. Cheers, Kaz
Sounds great.
Love the sound of this bike
Ser how easy is to sync the bike sound with the image?
What exhaust are you using?
JFC that sounds amazing
Two things: 1) Why do I have to watch a Harley-Davidson commercial before I can watch Indian's commercial? 2) I like the look of this thing, and I do love the sound, but I don't think I'm hipster enough to own and ride one. I mean, I haven't owned a straight-brimmed baseball hat since the 80s, and my flannel usually goes back into storage sometime in April.
I went bananas at the 1:30 mark. Dude looked like the Great Gazoo with a mustache! Yabba-dabba-doo!
You worry to much what others think. If you like it then get it. Don't let others shit opinion mess with your good time.
What Exhaust is that???
Anyone know the brand of the jacket? Is that a Roland?
Got one of the Wrecking Crew for the video. Cool.
Been looking evereear for that jacket , anyone know brand ? Or where I can buy one??
😮 amazing
This is the so freaking cool 🔥🔥🔥
At 15k it must be exciting to ride.
Very nice.
Love to able to ride a bike like that, like that.
That motor like Franks red-hot sauce, they put that motor on everything
The headlight cowl what is the namn of it? 😍
Hell Yeah! Rippin it up.
I would 100% daily drive that bike.
1:50 here's where the video starts.
or i suppose 1:00 if you want to see it on the street for a bit.
how cooked is your right leg after a ride on that?
This is the bike they SHOULD have sold. Not some eyesore Americati with an FTR name.
Nice riding gloves. Which ones are they? Anyone?
L' adoro... il rumore e tutto
This bike is badass
Sweet
Omg that sounds so beautiful
#goosebumps Cheezus!
I have number 20 in oz can’t wait for the dream machine those who down thumbed it obviously ride 3 wheel Harley’s
Aww, swooon 🤗 looks like so much fun! I'd take me a Sportster tho 😝
What in the hell is a Sportster? Must be something from the olden days.
@@servicarrider this comment did not age well
❤❤❤❤
So what category does this fit into? Naked street? Scrambler? Doesnt really scream dirtbike to me but i do know it was based of a muddytrack racing bike..any thoughts?
Damn... the sounds almost better then R nine T🤤
What brand are those boots? Curious to test ride one, but I'm not real fond of magnesum engine covers? Isn't magnesium flammable?
Roland sands
Thanks!
Mustaches are flammable.
@@mopar21 Yes, they are. That's why they don't make engine parts out of mustaches. Lol
Bellissima
Why does this bike only have one front brake rotor? They came with dual rotors up front
Because it's the concept/project bike which was road tested. Flat track racers don't have front brakes at all.
Next video you make, can you make an even longer intro? I really liked how you held on each shot for 10 seconds, super exciting to watch AND I was able to take the time between each shot to get household chores done.
YOU LUCKY BASTARDS!!!! Can't wait to get mine :)
Well that was 3 minutes of my life I won't get back.
Where can I get them gloves? ❤️
Aravind Dileep Roland Sands Designs
Sounds like a Buell😍
I want one so bad
other than the slow start, pretty good video.
best sound clip in the video: 3:08
✌
Music to your ears (not for your ears)

LOLOL! Of course! You expected less? ;-)
La moto da sabbione dio boia 😂
🏁🏁🏁👍👍👍
They sound amazing but it's not worth $1,750 for slip ons! That cost more then most Full Exhaust systems! Pretty much you paying for sound when you put on slip ons. With $1,750 you can buy a high intake air filter, a tuner, and a full exhaust system on other bikes. I check the Indian Website for my source.
Aftermarket will start producing pipes and they will come down in price.
True, if I were to get this bike I would look at Full Exhaust systems but probably wait a few months for the aftermarket to catch up. Wish it looked more like the concept bike though, just replace all the carbon with plastic and metal.
Why is the tank so small? I can't go anywhere.
The tank is still ridiculously small though. If you want to go anywhere, you'll have to wait for the after market to provide addons, I guess. But that's fine. Still buying one.
@@VectorBurnOfficial That is the one going on sale. That paint job, the bike will run you 17k. You can get it without all the electronics in black for 13k. You are thinking of the FTR750, the actual race bike, which runs 50k.
@@sonny9608 the tank is under the seat with the fill at the back of the "tank".
The bike they should have built. So many bikes coming out this year look like the FTR they are selling.
have you seen the bike in person? Checked out its specs and features? I don't think you would be making that statement if you did.
@@dannyb2783 As a former pro racer, and probably many more like myself, we wanted a bare bones legal flat track bike. We don't want tech ride controls, because we know how to ride, dirt and street, on the same ride, fast and well. Lamest thing on this bike is hanging the battery in front of the engine. They missed the mark. Many will enjoy it, racers have said, ho hum.
Got tired of waiting and got an R NineT Pure instead. Haven’t looked back!
You’re the most intelligent person on this thread
This isn’t even the bike they’ll actually sell, it’s some RSD custom
The production bike is the saddest attempt at a Ducati monster
Your bike will last decades beyond the entire nameplate Indian
sureout: good decision. I was interested in an FTR but am opting for a R Nine T, as well, but the Urban G/S.
yeah my brother did the same. its junk..hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Imagine if they sold this bike.
The production bike looks WAY better than this! And you can actually get one!
Lol Sportster advertisement before video...
I think I bought the wrong bike lol smh that thing is awesome...you think Indian will let me trade in my iron 883? 😂
Sounds like a Harley and it is way cooler than that.
Sounds nothing like a Harley.
@@user-sw2lv3zp6o Not really an argument you want to start. From the older XR750 to the newer XG, from twingles to singles to offset crankpin V twins, there are many different sounds from a racing HD and of course this sounds like one of them. Stick to the fatboy classic bullshit or whatever it is you think you know.
This doesn't really have the lean angle to be a proper flat tracker
Sounds like a muscle car!
Real pipes and the no-bullshit look is not showroom legal , so that is all about $3000 more, due to low volume
What is this? Do I see the beloved prototype that will never be?
It is the prototype that teased the release of the production FTR 1200
Justin Dawes Yep. Teasing a flat tracker and selling a scrambler...
Hopefully this exhaust hits the public soon, don’t know if you guys have heard the factory exhaust... but it’s sucks, makes the bike sound like. A Ducati. The only thing I hate about my ftr
I think indian missed a trick by going with a 1200 and not a road going version of the 750 race bike.
Faaaaq🤤
If you get an FTR 1200 do not purchase anything until you buy a PV3 tuner. PV3 is a must over new exhaust, over new wheel. None of these video tell you that riding an FTR 1200 untuned is not enjoyable.
моя мечта всей жизни
At last - a motorcycle that sounds like a motorcycle (instead of a sewing machine). By the way Harley - good luck with selling that electric Harley.. (your soon-to-be Edsel..)
The biggest problem with the E-Harley is that Zero has a bike with the same blistering performance for half the cost. The Harley badge on the bike had better be made of eight ounces of fine gold to make up the difference!
@@paulh6591 The unique potato-potato sound of a Harley is part of the mystique of the brand - I'm afraid I just can't see folks shelling out the $$$ for a Harley that whirrs..
This one has after market exuhast. It still sounds pretty good stock though.
@@pippiperade4030 30 K is way
to much money
@@KnuckleHead5362 I agree - half that price would be about right..
Should be delivered by December 2029 .....
Get that guy a steel shoe and a proper groomed track and he could go a lot faster...
I don´t have such a bad taste in music
Sounds good nice Bike..but my MT-01 sounds a lot better 😉 !
I've got an MT-01, too. Great bike!
