RLI 51st Regimental Day
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 30. 09. 2020
- A drumhead service to celebrate the 51st Regimental birthday of the 1st Battallion, the Rhodesian Light Light Infantry. A unique fighting unit in military history. With the 60th birthday of the RLI approaching, I thought it apt to look back and remember absent friends. Many of the saints featured in this video are no longer with us, such as Trevor DesFoutain, Neill Jackson, Dave Greenhalgh, Felicity Price, Henton Jaaback and Gavin Coutts. We will remember them!

The Bravest of the Brave For what The world sold them out Thank you for your sacrifices
Thank you all for your service to Rhodesia, and furthermore for all the West and our values. Wishing you well from America!
Thank you kindly!
As a child in America, I read everything I could about Rhodesia, I was only 12 in 1980.
My hat is off to you all.
In the early 2000âs I worked for a fine Rhodesian gentleman in Southern California. He was proud of his service with the Rhodesian army. I do not know if he was in this particular outfit, but we shared stories of mutual frustration with the futility of war as I had served in the US Army during the very early part of the Vietnam conflict.
Never forget the RLI the greatest fighters of them all.
When I see this film, I cannot imagine the state of the barracks today.
The last knights of the empire... Astonishing!
Rhodesians never die.
Brings tears to my 77year old eyes. Done many Sunset Ceromonies and Base closures always a very difficult time. Bless them All !
I'm not so young anymore and I can tell you that I have met people my age and older who identify as Rhodesian all around the world.
Let us not forget the sas, that has never been replaced
As a Brit I am ashamed of how Britain turned her back on Rhodesia. Utterly shameful! If I had been a few years older, I would have been over there fighting with you!
Heroes.
I am writhing in shame Watching this, it is shameful what the international community and UK did to you guys god bless you and yours Pugnamus Amo Leo
Thank you đđŒ
May Rhodesia live forever in our hearts. SIT NOMINE DIGNA
As a young six year old in Rhodesia I got to fly in a g car with a fire force a day which I will never forget man the door gunner still winked at me and I remember being so calmed by that gesture as I was almost shittng myself man we loved our troopies
The Selous Scouts and our 32 Battalion....in shame our Governments then hang their heads.....yes they should apologize.
Damn what I wouldn't give to see the saints on parade
Brought a tear to my eye John, so glad to see everyone looking so happy and healthy despite the current covid situation in the South good bless you!
Thanks Josh! Glad you enjoyed it đđŒ
I am not related to Rhodesia, I don't have any friends or acquaintances that are, literally no relation. Yet after learning about its story I salute her and her warriors for their contribution no less than of those who fought in WWII against nazism.
Rhodesians might've lost the bigger war, but in their fighting they sure slapped the devil in the face very good. Their country as a whole is like a fallen soldier in much larger and longer war against globalism and collectivism pushed by the puppet masters of this world.
Had Rhodesia won - the entire world would've been a much better place. But had it never attempt to fight back the way it did - the world would've been even worse off than it is today.
Salute to the real heroes.
Thank you for those words. Well said!
@@fightingmenofrhodesia no, thank YOU!
Brave heroes of our country. I salute them and their courage. đđ
An uncle of mine who was a bandsman with the RAR would always tell stories of how they had to always up their game when on parade with the RLI as he said it was always the peak of his career as a bandsman
I love Rhodesia even though I come from a country as distant as Poland. Rhodesian history and how you were betrayed reminds the story of my own country. I've never even been to Africa, but I wish I could see Rhodesia again.
It was the rich bread basket of Africa until communism took over, now look at it!
Hero's each and every one of them.
Don't ever forget them.
Rhodesia was the paradise in Africa.
RIP forgotten brothers.
Thankyou
Youâre welcome đ
Only watched this now. Recognized Rev Bill Bkakeway and Rev Bill Dodgem what great men.
A beautyfull unit of a once beautyfull country.
We will remember.
Have to say looking smart lads seen a few Operation Banner medals there so a good amount of British soldiers fought 1 good cause then left to fight another for our Rhodesian brothers after our Government betrayed the loyalty of the Rhodie. Being from Northern Ireland we Unionists are being betrayed so this in a way hits personally knowing our fate could be the same
Great tribute to the Ouens John. Many thanks
Thank you so much! đ
What a magnificent group of men! As a young subaltern , I had the honour of being invited to join the RLI, regrettably, I turned it down and served out 25 years with the NZ Army; I've always regretted that - forsaking a nation and people whose values are so similar to ours, in their time of need. I look at the videos from Rhodesia and the attitude, training, men, - all very, very similar to NZ. I would have fitted in like I was home. Sorry, I let you down.
Onward.
You did not let us down mate, the British did.

The British government let Rhodesia down....NOT the British public....there was uproar.....please guys let's not forget that....
Those were the days my friend, if only, if only.
The problem was always the UN and being stabbed in the back by the British politicians since the 1950's
The whole of afirca is theirs and they seem determined to return to the stone age. Suits the chinese well of course.
Proud to be a Rhodesian.
Oh yah man my younger boetie was to scared to climb in the alo that day when it touched down to uplift us.those guys were the best soldiers I have ever seen in my life we were jolling with their radios and they blacked us up with their own camo cream from their own faces.all my love to all survivors from security forces white and black as this was the best army to ever walk the earth
There will come a time again. Mark my words, it is always darkest before the dawn.
Keep the Flame Lily burning. Rhodesia will always be remembered. Like a Phoenix may she someday be resurrected.
RLI The Best of the Best
They.slotted terrs. As a Southern Rhodesian tried for two years to get in. Went through My Grandparents in The Karoo, got to Salisbury, the military wouldn't touch Me? I was deaf in one ear, and a brit. Did a Jawl during the summer just to prove to Me I still could. Only 120 miles in a week, still hate takkies, vellies instead. Near killed Me, picked the hottest ever week in Scotland. Mum and Dad near died when I hit the door. Okay, I'm now allegedly old, but I don't need Your seat. And am probably The Worlds scariest combination, A Southern Rhodesian Scotsman. What do You mean I can't. I just F'ing have!
Britains shame.
No, the scum in our so called establishment's shame! I hate communism!
Hard core boys
My brothers đ
I heard their boys and girls went off to join other forces and legions; British, US, SA and even French Foreign Legion. Ofcourse, pilots from the conflicts went on over to support the commandos in central conflicts (for them it must have been personal).
A very nice assortment of weapons at 12:59
Brilliant
Very Impressive drill work. They looked amazing.
Thank you very much!
They were more proud to be British then us Brits themselves the stuff of legends đș
Thanks for sharing. I guess my Old man didnt' make it.
Perhaps he met the Saints after all.
Sandy Millar looking good!
From 1RNZIR to 1 st Battalion RLI -Onward.
We the people who resist for anti-patriotic movements and governments are all Rhodesians...
In 1980 they should have staged a coup in stead of marching off to oblivion.
That's what we were hoping would happen!
Unfortunately the Airforce and much of the government would remain loyal to the new government which frustrated lots of soldiers operation Quartz should've happened sadly it didn't
Extraordinario ejercito el Rhodesiano.
Great drill. What shame what became of the country now. Sold out by the Brits
Iâm a Brit and I absolutely agree with you. They let that murderer Mugabe take control and Rob the country.
Another Brit here ,and I agree with you ,it was disgraceful the way the doogooders were allowed to put a butcher in charge .
@@lordofbore you are 100% correct, the irony is both us and europe including uk find themselves in current predicament because of same dogooders, and it all started back then. Referring to US riots and irefugee crisis in europe
Sad what happened to the Bread Basket of Africa.
âIf I had to take hell, I would use the Australians and Rhodesians to take it and the New Zealanders and Irish to hold it." -Erwin Rommel/Paul Doyle
Erwin Rommel never said anything remotely like that. He did say the defenders of Tobruk fought like lions but that doesnât include any Irish which youâve just added đ€Ą
Los lujos del mundo. Terminar con un paĂs prĂłspero para crear una dictadura asesina y corrupta. Bravooooo!!!!!, asĂ estamos
Where do the colours of the RLI currently rest?
At Hatfield House in the UK, in Lord Salisbury's family chapel.
@@fightingmenofrhodesia I read somewhere that the colours for the SAS C squadron went to Hereford. Do you happen to know here the colours for the Sealous Scouts went?
Very smart. They look better than British army.
Was this get together in Rhodesia ( or what itâs called now ) or in South Africa ?
In Cape Town South Africa
I am confused. These colours arenât the ones that were laid up in the disbandment ceremony. What colours are these people using? They look absolutely different.
There are the Queen's Colour which were laid up at the disbandment ceremony. These are the President's Colour which replaced the Queen's Colour after UDI
was this filmed and photographs in rhodesian or south africa
It was filmed in Cape Town. South Africa
Where was the service held and what mess did they ahve the dinner in?
The service was held in the International Police Association grounds at Timour Hall in Cape Town and the mess is the Highlanders mess in the Cape Town Castle
Why did they use the presidential colour and not the queens colour? And then they have the royal cypher on their sash.
We stopped using the Queens' colour after UDI but the sash pre-dated UDI and was never updated. Also our beret badges stopped using the royal crown after UDI. Well spotted! ;)
Shoulder arms with the left arm? Why is their drill like this?
The name of the man at 4:27? I assume he is the officer reviewing at 3:57.
Col Charlie Aust, CO of the RLI
@@fightingmenofrhodesia Thank you. I had thought so when I saw him in your video of the RLI's final parade. I watch that segment of the video about once or twice a week just to remind myself what the empty promises of this new world are worth.
Where were the colours laid up after disbandment please?
In a church in the UK :)
Many thanks for your reply, I will understand if you wish not to divulge the info but could you be a bit more specific please? Whilst my own unit was not disbanded, it was amalgamated and I have some idea of the pain that caused. It would be nice to tip my hat if I were ever close by. Cheers.

Best Army in Africa. Then 2nd South Africa
The portuguese are second to no 1 but like Rhodesia we were let down by lily livered politicians and the revolution in Lisbon didn't help
Sorry to piss on the parade, but I have to ask myself what have all these old folks achieved, with their medals and all. I'm of their age and did military service too but never achieved what they did. Yet, despite their good works, we are still in the clutches of the devils that they fought against. Time to do something different?
Not a single African representative there
There were no Africans in the RLI. It was an all white unit unlike the Selous Scouts or the Rhodesian African Rifles.
Theyâre all Africans. More specially, Rhodesians.
@Ingungumbane you have a valid point. My bad đđŒ
