Why didn't Yvette Cooper enable Jeremy Corbyn to speak; instead, keep trying to talk over him? Because he was putting across a fair, reasonable and balanced point of view that many people within (of all things) a Sky audience, similarly agreed with. So she was actually 'playing' to the audience. As so many other career politicians 'play' to the electorate, in order to boost their own popularity. When I listen to Ms 'Austerity Light' Cooper, and Ms Liz 'I should really be wearing a blue dress with a string of pearls' Kendall, I truly wonder where their true values lie. I despair that they have even been elected to stand. Why, as assumedly(?) intelligent 'socialist' individuals, can't they see that Corbyn is right? Why aren't they supporting his stance against the injustices and failures within modern-day Britain; not to mention the rest of the World? Are they simply infiltrators from another cause? Have they forgotten the woeful failure of their party, just a few months ago, and recognise that what they are offering isn't ANY alternative? And then to have the utter gall to suggest what Corbyn proposes is not an electable vision? The fact is, they (and Burnham) are simply young, career politicians. Corbyn is, and ALWAYS has been, a man of his principles. The three of them come from the school of cliches and soundbites. Jeremy Corbyn comes from the school of humanity, justice and common sense. He offers Solutions, not BS and rhetoric. And THAT is why he is possibly one of the very few politicians that people can now imagine themself trusting; and more importantly, voting for.

I think it's fine she's asking these questions, it is a debate after all and it deserves at least some scrutiny - But it seems odd that Jeremy isn't really shouting about the one caveat to that argument, which he mentions very briefly - People's QE would only be the solution during an economic downturn. I suspect he believes there'll be another financial crisis by 2020 which will make that option seem far more credible, but doesn't want to outright predict it. Although he does say Osborne won't have us in surplus by 2020 which based on his previous attempts is a much safer assumption.

Where is the dreaded inflation economists have wrongly claimed would occur? Almost weekly since the global economic downturn I've read financial pieces warning of nightmare inflation, yet none have come to fruition; ironically, we're still below target for inflation!

The terms of the private investment were exploitative to the point where the interest on that loan to the taxpayer will be paying off huge interest for the next 45 years. The government could have invested the money but it was Blair ideological dogma to include the private sector in that cash cow. Then Dobson like a good obliging MP that he was, ran as the stalking horse against Ken Livingstone as Mayor of London and lost. Blair didn't like rebellious Frank over Iraq. Unbelievable! Your investment in growth projects that include better education and health will repay with a more qualified and healthy labour force. More productive labour force, more value created, more money made and earned and thus more taxes earned by the government to pay off the debt in investments.
"Productivity" which is now highlighted by Tories as an issue is actually improved through investments in education. Private Finance Initiatives is much more costly than government raising funds through selling bonds.
She just wants to argue it out when she knows better or does not want to go down the public sector investment route.

i disagree dannyboy19811 this approach has been tried before back in the 60's and it didn't work, almost all economists and politicians disagree with him, i don't trust the banks either but i don't see renationalization as the solution.
Thom Alexander i agree, he has been inspired by Abenomics to try early Kaynesian theory via QE which has been proven to not work, I hate Yvette Cooper but she is right on the effects it will have on the poor, they will be left drowning whilst the rich abandon ship.

Cooper dismisses the comparison with QE in Japan because their economy continued to stagnate. this ignores that growth in the UK is being largely driven by growth in limited industrial/geographical sectors, while vast swathes of the economy ARE stagnating or going backwards.
