- We just so happened to trade for a nearly new Bad Boy MZ mower with less that 5 hours on it. Sooooo why not do a comparison video to highlight the differences between the MZ and Spartan RZ-C.

Since the Spartan costs roughly $900 more, it seems as if in fairness a Bad Boy model costing roughly the same $900 more should have been used for this comparison.

Thanks for your time and solid information. After watching this video, it was the first time I considered a different brand. My Bad Boy Elite served me well for 10 years before I started spending big money on repairs. My Bad Boy is now a project for my sons to troubleshoot and repair.
My Spartan STR XD is a beast, I had no idea mowing was so relaxing, comfortable, and quiet. Such a huge difference and so worth the extra money. The only problem I have with this mower is getting to it before my wife does.
I love when a dealer of a certain brand,can cut down another brand when compared. That’s why I never put much stock in these videos!
I agree. It is pathetically obvious he is just pushing what he sells regularly and it’s easy to compare apples to oranges too
The Spartan mower is hands-down the better mower he doesn't have to push yourself anything go out and test when yourself go put about 1000 hours on one more go put about 1000 hours on another mower

I looked at that model also. Like the kawasaki motor and Parker drives. My only concern is I've read that the cut height adjustment will go down on its own while your mowing. Has that been addressed?
@@ctfan1486 I've only experienced it once and that required a significant disturbance in the deck. I was carrying a good bit of speed when I bounced over a large tree root at the surface. The back end nearly came off the ground while goin over it.
@@ctfan1486 My 2020 Rt Pro's deck would occasionally drop and scalp the lawn. I upgraded to a 2023 Spartan and have not had an issue with it.
If your going to compare Bad Boy vs Spartan then you should get equal models. Compare the Bad Boy Compact Outlaw in 42" to your Spartan
Bring one by and we will!!! Unfortunately we work with what’s traded in. We try to only use the cleanest looking trades, get as close in model as possible and let people know what the price difference is to try to keep it as fair as possible.

Sat on a 2023 bad boy Mz, as well as a 2023 Spartan Rz-c. I was shocked on the difference. The spartan was bigger, beefier and felt better in every way. Local spartan dealer had a sale and I bought the spartan for a few hundred more than the bad boy. Really enjoying the spartan so far.
Got an RZ-C last year, first zero turn. I couldn't be happier with it.

Great comparison. For those that are wondering, you can get the Spartan with a key ignition. My RZ Pro 54” has a key ignition and was the only one available at the dealer. They can get you a key ignition if you request it. Absolute fan of Kawasaki and I will buy nothing else. Before they were bought out by Husqvarna my Yazoo-kee was a Kawasaki engine and after 20 years I sold it to my father and it is still rolling and has not had one problem with the engine. Also this mower is not hydrostatic, which in opinion is fantastic and one of the reasons why I bought the mower. This mower is built like a tank and rides like a dream. I have an acre a lot and it literally takes about 30 minutes to mow my yard.

I've owned Gravely, Bad Boy, snapper,Exmark and even the best aka Scag,and now after 2 years of owning a spartan I would buy another spartan or a Scag again.

Wish you'd made this video about a year ago. Came really close to buying a Spartan but got the impression that BB had a little more dealer support in my area which turned out to be not that much more. The seat on my MZ Magnum is trash but at least it gets the job done twice as fast as my old JD GT245 that cost almost $5k like 15 years ago and left hydro puddles everywhere lol.
Spartan got bought out by Toro this year. I have a six year old Bad Boy and the drive motor Belt last week; had a new one next day. You'll be happy with your Bad Boy, as when a big company buys a smaller one, the buyer lives on while the bought becomes an orphan. When he dissed the deck wheels on the Bad Boy as not being near the outside, there's a reason; when they line up with the casters, whatever you're mowing gets run over twice and Bad Boy realized the blades weren't lifting the grass up for cutting when it's flattened in short order.
Spartan will be my next mower. My last Ztr was a yazoo-Kees and it lasted over 22 years with regular maintenance.

The control cluster of the Spartan looks like a liability after the warranty runs out, electronics that will give problems sooner or later. You're mowing grass not flying an airplane, the Bad Boy control panel will give much less issues in the long run, plus, how big of a deck height knob do you need, dinner plate sized?

I just bought a Spartan RZ-C 42" the model ypu showed here. I was actually looking at the bad boys until I found the Spartans. After alot of comparing and review reading I found the Spartan has alot more bang for your buck. Before fees and taxes I got the mower for 4,100. I cut my grass twice with it so far and I'm so happy with the choice I made. I cut a 2 acre lot. I saw so many mowers at the same price or more expensive that weren't as well built as these. I think the owner is doing well by putting commercial features on a residential mower while keeping the cost down with the lean manufacturing they do.

It’s a pretty simple adjustment. What to adjust depends on whether it pulls all the time or just at top speed.
@@prequipmentsales It pulls when both handles are all the way down. They have these screws and nut on the front to stop the handles but doesn't really do anything.

I like you more what size date is it comes with does it come with a 48 or a 52 Kohler or Kawasaki if so I would like to try to purchase that more because I was going to buy a bad boy but I like the quality and I'd rather spend more money at least I know what I'm getting but anyway do you have debt sprighten

I use a Maverick from BadBoy and I've been very pleased since 2018. I live in Batesville and I see more BadBoys than anything. Tough Mower.
Yes Bad Boy does sell more they’ve been around longer and they sell them at box stores. However Spartan is the fastest growing manufacturer in the industry so let’s check back in 5 years.

To be fair you're kinda comparing apples to oranges here. The Bad Boy model isn't a comparable model to the Spartan model featured in this video, but the Spartan does seem built well and has impressive features.
Unfortunately when we did this video the RZ-C didn’t exist which would have made for a more fair comparison.
All the electronic need at least ten year warranty. Vibration eat that stuf. second what is the ducking ground clearance. seen some lawn business get stuck driven in to stump hole. and the like. Some landowner failed to fill the holes. He only has someone mow once a month, just before the city code shows up.

I have a spartan after taking ten box store mowers back and the first one was a bad boy he only went 6 mph and there's no adjust in it the smallest Spartan because 9 mph and there's 11,000 12,000 mowers that don't go that fast it has same 7guage deck as my 15,000$ scag cheetah lol Spartan is the best mowers in the industry hands down for stupid cheap prices

It was as close as we could get. We mention in the video that there is a price difference thus exactly equal.
I have a spartan well build mower
I wonder about the higher seating position of the Spartan. All other things being equal, I would prefer the lower seat position of the Bad Boy.
Of course I’m biased but I prefer the higher seating position due to the increased visibility it provides. Don’t know how many of my sons toys I’ve avoided hitting in tall grass due to being able to go see them easier.
Doesn’t bad boy have a $900 level up that’s better than the spartan?
We’ll put a Spartan up a bad boy any day of the week. We’re 2 miles from a Bad Boy dealer but we smoke them. If anyone out there other models of Bad Boys we can use for comparisons please reach out.

while im not disagreeing with anything youre saying to an extent, this is so obviously just a sales pitch to push people to buy the spartan mowers lol. I laughed when you dogged on the bad boy for the brake lever and for not having a "control panel". the control panel on the spartan is the one thing ive heard most people bitch about. The brake lever thing just had no logic behind it either honestly.
You know I wasn’t sold on the control panel until my store was broken into and they stole every keyed mower on the lot, 3 brands, with the same key. Couldn’t get the expensive Spartans started. Plus the added features such as: tachometer, volt meter, service timer and safety switch indicators are really handy. They’ve made a ton of improvements over the years and now 90% of our failures come from 5% of our customers who just abuse them.
I actually stocked up on replacements two years preparing for failures and I’ve still got most of them on the shelf tying up inventory dollars. You are correct though we are Spartan fans! Thanks for watching!
if he's comparing too bad boy that's telling me bad boy must be good mower! but most zero turns out there are good mowers anyways, it mostly comes down you get what you paid!
That's one of those cheap Tractor Supply Bad Boy mowers, it is not the same quality that you will get from a dealer. Spartan was started by an ex-partner from Bad Boy the facility is on the same street.
That's one the biggest points we're trying to make. Regardless of the brand you're better off buying from a dealer that will stand behind the product. Side note while Spartan does still have a fabrication facility by Bad Boy they've since expanded to a huge production facility down the road that is freaking awesome! Thanks for watching.
@@prequipmentsales I appreciate the reply, I have a 2006 Bad Boy, one of the best mowers there was at the time in my opinion, but I am leaning toward a Spartan myself. We got the old Bad Boy from a friend who has since sold his dealership to the local Kubota dealer and I'm just not that fond of their customer service, but our Spartan dealer is a local guy here in Central Arkansas

How does fastest growing zero turn manufacturer equate to failing in the market? It’s sold because Robert got $400 million. I’d sold it in a heartbeat to.
So Toro paid $400M for a falling brand? Haha. Toro wouldn’t have purchased them at all if they were on a downward trend.

Not exactly how it went down. Prior to sale of Bad Boy. Robert Foster split from Bad Boy and went across the street to start Spartan. They were actually quite adversarial for the first several years.
Spartan started from the Bad Bit team. Used tech from Bad Boy to start. This was a lame comparison.

Imagine that. You’re a spartan dealer and like everything better about what you sell. The only thing similar about these mowers is the deck size. Not even close to comparable models. What a joke. You think you are pulling a fast one but all you’re doing is throwing your credibility out the window. Might as well compare a Chevy Silverado to a ford ranger.
Spartan needs to go to a key and get rid of the keypad.
