- How to attach a second battery to your Pedal Electric Bike. This should also work for the Ariel Rider D Class, and the principle is the same for all ebikes that do not come with 2 batteries already.

That's a terrific video for showing folks how simple it can be to add a 2nd battery David. Thanks for sharing, and I am glad to see that our combiner product could help you out!
Where do I get your combiner?!
Is it ok to run both batteries at the same time? Cuz today smelled burning plastic coming from the battery combiner after a long ride having both batteries turned on. Electromotive mods brand.
@@WeedvsWeed.I would have just alternated between the two with a flip switch instead of combining lol
@@WeedvsWeed. How did it go?
Yo I just bought the Pedal three days ago and just saw your bike next door to my friend's place this eve. I was blown away by your setup, I took a bunch of pics then went googling. Can't believe the first CZcams vid I find is yours! (recognized your Thule box + red elastic net cover)
hahaha that's awesome! Welcome to the pedal fam! were you in Santa Monica? check out LAESK8 on Facebook for cool group rides.
I think I would go ahead and use a triangle 30 ah in a bag 🤔.. Stuff that frame space full of battery😂.. But that what you did looks very clean and natural.. Good job!👍
thank you! the triangle battery cannot be locked to the frame, so for safety, i prefer my set up
Thank you so much. I have a D class so this helps me tremendously
glad you liked it!!!
Great video. Very interesting, informative, helpful !
thank you!!
Great video, quick question. Do you have a charge the batteries separately? Thx.
yes you do
Simple!! Wonder how hard it is to add to my 60 volt battery bike??
The Ariel Rider D-Class disappears
Nobody :
Ariel : Grizzly aka super not the d-class
Pedal : here’s the d-class 2.0 y’all assumed was coming
Great video. Super helpful. Do you recommend adding a second battery immediately after purchase or should you ride stock in order to not void the warranty? Bought a AWD3 and waiting for shipping. I get juice anxiety but also wanna make sure I can get any issues fixed in the first 500 miles or so.
I didnt have warranty issues, but I rode the bike once before buying another battery. I think youll get about 15 miles of range on the AWD3. I got less than 25 on the AWD2 and those are dual 750w, not 1000w. It obviously depends on riding style, but if you're buying this bike I assume you want to go ~30mph
That looks awesome, was the total in range 50 miles or close to it ?
yes 50 exactly!
Great video. Quick question on your range. Was that with both motors running and how much pedaling did you do to achieve it or was it all throttle cruising?
Hello
Great clear video.
I have a question tho and that is.
Do you still use the one charger for both batteries or charger them independently.? And if so which battery do you prefer.
Thank you 🙏 😂
the batteries need to be charged independently since current cannot flow from one to the other via the battery combiner. The second battery is about 19AH and the native battery is 21AH. I dont have a preference outside of the size factor. Sometimes for short ride, I'll only put on one or only turn on one.
@@armada1e Great thank you 🙏
Thanks for the video; i wonder how waterproof is the bike after the battery upgrade? Would it be still weatherproof as the company advertise? Also - does the bike have a cruise (speed lock) control? I cannot find that info nowhere.. any flats on it - as the other user is complaining about? And lastly, how is your experience just pedaling on this. Thank you again.
I dont know how water proof the bike is, i imagine it's ok. I would not submerge the bike obviously, and personally, i do not ride in the rain or even when its still wet outside. There is no cruise control. I have not had a single flat after 1700 miles, but I use slime. The pedaling geometry and height is very good and close to ideal for a 5'9 person like me. 5'6 would be too short, and 6'2 might not pedal comfortable, but it's much more comfortable than super 73. i pedal 40% of the time id say. the bike is more meant for throttle cruising though
Also on the battery combiner you linked, there is multiple options , 50 amp dual or quad and 90 amp dual or quad, wich one do I choose
if you only want to add 1 more battery, then dual. if more, then quad. if you're adding a 48v, then 50amp. if higher, then ask the seller to be sure. 52v is probs still 50amp, but 72v might be 90amp. but please ask the seller, im not an expert.
Where can I get the Rack? Share link :) thank you and great video David
thank you!!

Which amperage did you use? 50A Dual, Dual HE-X2, or the Dual HE-X1 Premium?
I only recall the first one being available at the time, so I think it was 50A dual. If you only want 1 extra battery and youre keeping the 48v controller, then thats the one you want.
Hey David,
Thanks for posting this.
I have two questions for you, did your controller ever end up syncing to properly reflect the additional battery capacity?
I added a second battery and after my first test ride I the level indicator on the controller was down to one bar but the indicators on both of the batteries still showed 50% capacity.
It’s not the end of the world and I might try upgrading the controller at some point.
Also, it looks like you upgraded your rear shocks. Is this the case? I have the AWD2 and wouldn’t mind a suspension upgrade myself so I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on the replacements.
Thank you for your time!
Hey there, so I dont have your issue, but the battery indicator is just almost useless with two batteries on. For me, it drops two bars at a time after roughly the following mile marks: 13, 24,30,36,48. So I just keep those numbers in mind, but it's wildly inconsistent. I did not upgrade by shocks.
What are the specs on your 2nd batteries and what brand of battery combiner are you using?
Good looking toy!
Thx,
LB
the battery is 48v 19ah. and the cominber is electromotive mods
Thank you keep up to good work!
Stupid question, but if you wanted to change the handlebars to a different style, is it possible or are the handles part of the fork, in another words all 1 pc?
Thx,
LB
@@loubuontempo4964 yes you can
Thank you Sir!
What battery combiner are you using? 50A duel or 50A duel high efficiency?
50A dual
Wow i have the same vike but it has a different name ,its the same seat same frame even down to the cup holder
I don’t see that battery available on Amazon. Do you recommend any other ones?
ive heard Chi Batteries are good
How much did it cost for parts and battery and how long full throttle does it last range as of late?
links in description. about $650
Good quality for price
Do you see any reason why this wouldn't work on the Pedal Electric Core?
David, could you possibly provide me with all of the parts I need to order and the company you purchased it from.I will take your advice and order what ever the highest charge battery I can use.
Much appreciated.
John Riggs
Hey John check out the links in the description!
What size second battery did your order. Nice video
48v 19.2AH. Id go for the biggest you can get. you wont regret spending the money.
Hi there, the battery in your link is listed as Max Constant Discharge Current 30A. I want to do this on my awd3, do you think a 48V 20ah with Max Constant Discharge Current 40A would still work without causing problems with the controller etc? thanks
I think so but I’m not an expert so do your own research
How is the bike still holding up would you recommend it to someone getting it for transportation to work
Phenomenal. I go into the office once a week, 15 miles each way and no sweat. 1 year in, and someone asked me if it was brand new this week!
Good job
Very gerat idea good job . Where we can get those please let me know on comment .
did the bike already come with 2 controllers? or did u install the second one??
it came with two. one for each motor!
One thing I wanted to say on the newer "Pedal AWD 3" the space where the controllers are, the set up is a lil different. There is not a wall between the controllers and wires. Also today I started smelling burning plastic during a ride today. opened the seat the smell was coming from the battery combiner. it seem to be working still but I believe should only run one battery at a time. what do you think? has this happened to you?
This sounds like the heat melted through the cable. The combiner has a heat sync, confirming it’s a significant source of heat. Wrap the cable in something more heat resistant.
Hey David, so does it matter what volt battery I get for a 2nd battery and does the ah's matter as well?
the beauty of the battery combiner is that it does not what voltage or AH or level of charge the second battery has
Since I have the Core model, do you think I’ll need to upgrade my controller since I only have one, or will I be fine?
*Very good at least I like it*
Anyone know of bicycle insurance policies that would cover something like adding a second battery to your bike? Idk if Velosurance covers non stock items.
would this word with the AWD (s) model?
does the pedal AWD have a wire that I can cut to bypass speed limiter ? im thinking of getting the AWD III
i dont know. it can go 34mph with the second battery though. if you added a 52v second battery, maybe higher
Not sure about the AWD III but in the early models you can set the limiter to 99kmh essentially unlocking it
@@armada1e Am I guessing correctly that the original battery in 48V 20AH ?
what V is your second battery
48v 20ah
@@armada1e so all together ur bike is 48v 40 ah
@@juliuspresley9982 ya exactly, it's pretty epic IMO
Will it hurt the controller if i just run 1 battery at a time.
no should be fine
@@armada1e 2 30 amp controllers with a 50 amp combiner. Doesn't seem safe
So I followed this install exactly. I have a AWD3, but for some reason it negates my hub selector switch. Its just now both hubs all the time no matter what. Any idea why?
no, that is odd and concerning. if I had to guess, maybe you accidentally unplugged a controller cable when you were installing the battery combiner?
so after you’ve added the extra battery a year ago, how many miles are you able to get out of it now?
i get 50 miles total riding at 30+ mph
Do you have a link to the cup holder you have there in between the frame?
the AWD2 came with one, and I removed it to add the battery
where did you get that cargo basket?
brand is Thule, you can get it on Amazon. its good but pricey
@@armada1e thank you very much .
Okay so what range did you eventually get? And what range were you getting with single battery?
I get 50-60 miles with both batteries. 25 miles on stock.
I don’t see the battery being available. Recommend any other ones to purchase?
Wait a min, this not even a AWD 3. This a AWD 2.
Hey, I have the Core model. Am I able to do this to or it’s only for the awd? Thank you
it should work, the same idea at least
@@armada1e thank you man. Am I able to use a bigger ah battery?
so what do u call "fast-paced riding"? 35mph, 40mph?
34mph top speed
You didn't mention current ah and then new battery ah. You never mention current top speed and new top speed. You need to do a new video showing top speed and range. Give specs of the bike. Those bars look like Ariel Rider Grizzly bars that everyone wants to replace with a more BMX type style.
The old battery is 21AH, the new is 19AH, both 48V. top speed went from 32 to 34 and range from 25 to 55. Im thinking about doing an update vid
What brand is the basket you have on the rear rack?
Thule
Where can I order an extra battery??
link in description for the one I used, but you can use any 48v or 52v battery with Anderson or XT cables
Which basket did you get for it?
Thule. It's expensive but good quality and looks pretty good w the bike
@@armada1e thank you!
Is your bike d class AR
It’s a Pedal Electric awd bike but it’s almost identical to the d class except it has rear suspension. Everything done here would work for that bike too.
Is that an AWD III ?
this is the AWD2, but it should work the same for both (minus the cup holder bit)
@@armada1e think the AWD 3 doesn't have a cup holder anyway lol
@@tjgrafiks thats right
So I joined an FB Pedal Electric group and there seems to be a lot of unhappy people who bought this ebike. seems customer service is lousy and lots of people didn't get everything they ordered or their bikes were faulty or damaged.
are you local to LA? I am and its great having them close. no company is perfect. they all have complaints online. i love my bike
@@armada1e no i moved from cali to florida after the northridge quake some 30 years ago lol
FYI, Pedal won't sell you another battery. They don't have any extra ones because they are order and made in a another county. One unit made, comes with 1 battery. The battery is one of the biggest costs so to order some with more or all with two would screw up profit models, BIG TIME. The sad part is one battery gets you nowhere near advertised ranges. A third, at best! Way to many negative reviews on this company for me to get one.
you're right about batteries and advertised range. that's why this is crucial.
lots of companies have bad reviews. im local to LA, so they handle all my issues.
I would recommend Pedal Electric over Super 73 and Ariel rider too maybe, especially if you're in LA
6 flat tires in 450 miles on this bike! Worst ebike EVER! Zero customer service - you will need to prove why the issue is theirs and not yours! Company - at least the guys in L.A. - does not stand behind their product at all. Don't buy one - there are SO MANY better bikes on the market!
Sadly i already bought one so im stuck with it for now!
I’ve been going back n forth between a pedal awd 3, a super73s or rx mojave, and barely considering a grizzly (can’t stand how they look) - pros n cons to them all… but reading this about the customer service of pedal is alarming
@@Efiltaolf but the AW3 looks almost identical to the Ariel Grizzly, in fact these are basically knock offs of the Grizzly lol
@@tjgrafiks disagree. The grizzly looks like a kids toy.
For what it's worth, I've had horrible experience with Pedal CS. My head tube was leaking, and then started creaking at every stop and go. Brakes were way out of adjustment (like there were none), and the brake line had bubbles in it. HOWEVER, that said, these were things I had fixed at my local bike shop (Seal Beach) and now love the bike. I don't love this company, and in my opinion this company will be done in a few years because of this, but once you get the kinks worked out the bike is awesome to ride. Adding a battery should be a no-brainer for these companies and I don't know why they don't offer an OEM solution. It's called "Add-on sales".
Great video,i like that basket.
Thanks!
