Joan Hickson, the simple maid, would have no doubt looked back at this and thought "despise not the day of small things." (Proverbs) when she played Agatha Christie's female sleuth - Miss Marple - many years later. A London friend who ran a vintage clothes 'barrow' in Brixton market from the 50's to the 80's appeared as an extra in many films. The casting people used to ring her up and tell her what they needed..."3 of your friends and yourself in full 30's outdoor attire, middle class..." etc etc. Not only did she get the extra fee but a daily hire rate for the clothes! I took a photo of the TV when she appeared next to Elizabeth Taylor on the staircase in front of the picture of the Madonna and child in "The Mirror Cracked." Rita was always used as a stand in for Miss Hickson being the same height, build & having the same hair style. Rita's son, also now with the Lord, turned his hobby of collecting old (war) medals into a business. He created and reproduced whatever was required by the film and stage companies. No doubt - as he always made a few 'extras' just in case any were lost - there are many that ended up on "Bric-a-brac" stalls on their way to antiqueier stalls & shops. Now in "Collections" everywhere. Maybe you have one ! (Priceless)

Seemed a bit light for Basil's ability but true to form he delivered a powerful transformation and performance and again as Kym says Harding went toe to toe with him in powerful transformation from love to fear to challenge and defeat. They should both have got awards = = for that one.
