There are people in the comments recommending you start the game on the easiest difficulty instead of veteran. I don't agree with this stance. I believe veteran is the optimal difficulty for a new player especially if they have any experience at all with Souls games.
That's a little disappointing to hear. A souls-like game having difficulty options. The game looks fun but that alone breaks the immersion for me. A "personal/my opinion" pass for me, but for you who don't mind that - enjoy:)
Dude…. You are always wrong about so much. I can’t even believe you play video games. We live in a confusing age. Everyone is backwards. And this channel takes the cake for being backwards. 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Say that again with the final boss, or the gimmick boss mentioned before in the video. However, it was a mistake having difficulty options in the first place.
I don’t know. For price. It can be fun but I’m not expecting much when seeing same enemy in a the location I’m in. When I’m dungeon you might get new ones but that’s about it. For the game price is going for I let it slide. Could say lords of fallen has that but I find it more satisfying for my taste cause remant is a shooter and I’m meh when it comes to shooters cause that stuff reminds me of destiny and division. Just same setup shoot till enemy dies.
@@sneakymitchell7802pricing is absolutely a factor in grading a game. The fact remnant didn't charge $70 like Gollum or Forspoken, absolutely factors into my opinions. Not every flawless indie game is worth $60. If games that are unfinished/buggy/not truly NEXT gen try to overcharge, I, as a customer, am going to see their game as undesirable.
@@sneakymitchell7802Cuz we are soulsplayer so we get used to roll/dodge/attack for so long that why when we playing remnant we feel kinda boring but LoTF is the one that closer to darksouls play style
@@max784020 you can also be softlocked / storylocked etc to ME the only good thing in the game are the rings and amulets and combinations between them skills are trash grinding is too much
@@rz3264 the green monster is a good example he roars before his 3 hit combo so it becomes a rhythm game but people get up in the bosses face so if they don’t see the monsters hands over it’s head coming down it’s immediately the games fault but I say skill issue lol
@@TheUltimateRey Oh the roar before it's move, but that's not sounds cue to help the parry timing right? like example of what i meant is "if you hear "ting" then press parry or dodge". while remnant 2 final boss have moves that really use sounds cue like that as players dodge timing.
I think the sound que is a problem cause if some people have problems hearing certain que then they will fail a lot. Sure you can say same with visual but a good visual needs to be clear and fluid animation. Making a sound doesn’t help. It just annoying and can later have your ears ringing. This is not good. It will cause deafness in life it keeps coming.
One of my favorite things about the Co-op is when randoms joined my world they would lead me to secrets that they have already discovered. And I honestly think that is an amazing way to help tackle some of the really obscure secrets. A community of people in game showing each other where the hidden loot is. It feels far better than searching up locations yourself.
a thing that happened to me the other day was, me and another player were leading the host to a direction, but unfortunately the host died and we were like "screw it, lets push through to show him the secret from beyond the grave." but then the host kicked us ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Regarding secrets, they even put a big one in expecting people to be datamining or otherwise digging in the code. Took the community a good number of days to get it sorted out too.
+ devs posted something along these lines; "please don't datamine our game...pretty please ;)" (on twitter I believe?) which was an obvious invitation to very much welcomed datamining
such amazing game design having 99.99999% of players looking shit up on youtube instead of it being unlocked in a logical and reasonable way /S these "secrets" fucking suck and do nothing to help the game. grinding for summoner is so damn stupid for example, what an insanely boring grind
@@TheFierburn I mean.. FromSoft had to outright tell the community how to access the Artorias DLC because it was an obscure backtracking puzzle. Ranni's questline gets very convoluted about halfway through (compared to some others) Yet it's Elden Rings most commonly achieved ending... Because people look it up on Fextralife. So let's not pretend that Gunfire Games is this inept developer when you're cherry picking one of the easiest classes to unlock provided you find a blood moon. 😂
@@TheFierburnnot every secret loot item is unlocked by a puzzle that can be solved in a few minutes. Some involve grinding and or rng. Nothing wrong with it, you’ll have to earn it either way. At least the grindy stuff can’t be cheesed by looking up a guide on CZcams and brute forcing the puzzle in 2 minutes. Ultimately if you’re going to use that item a lot, the grinding itself will be a small portion of your playtime compared to how much you’ll be using the item itself
yeah no, i unlocked all the stuff with a mod and just like i predicted after finishing my first campaign (nightmare) with 2 friends i had zero interest in going back because the game is so extremely shallow in the mechanics and character building department. These secrets are always dogshit but at least in a game you spend maybe 100+ hours i could at least entertain the idea. And then starting at lvl 1 with the new class so youre useless for a while, god its so stupid. Im a game designer myself and this shit was just so poorly thoughtout. @@DarkKiller-0
The final boss of remnant 2 gave me a feeling that I haven’t felt in a while. The whole experience of the fight is just amazing with every aspect of it contributing to the feel. Also the music of the fight is undoubtedly one of the best pieces of music we’ve gotten this year and in gaming in general.
About those ambushes... If you played the game recently, there was an event going on that spawned aberrations everywhere. Usually, they are in particular areas and don't randomly spawn frequently like that.
That's right, he was talking about the random aberration spawns that just a few days ago were too frequent due to the Halloween event. Now they are very infrequent, and they depend on the difficulty the higher you go the more likely to happen.
@@noobeternal9718and as I missed the Halloween event I’m now hunting these infrequent spawns to get all the new guns XD I had a perfect save with every ring ammy and gun and now I’m behind again and wanna get back to perfect before the fishing hamlet drops next week
@@SabreFang121 yeah these spawns are arguably too infrequent now and the way the new currency is administered is dumb. If you have 10 on your inventory you don't get anymore unless you spend them on a corrupted gun. But with patience and playing adventure on nightmare difficulty you will eventually get all corrupted guns and new mutators.
@@noobeternal9718 I was finishing up my hardcore perfect save aswell but that one gives me anxiety and conniptions every time I go exploring for gear lol so gonna do my standard one first then try and farm the corrupted stuff on HC
Soloing the last boss on apocalypse was probably the most fun ive had ina boss fight EVER. Knowing the fight, holding focus the entire time and the feeling of accomplishment after it was over was something else ive not experienced in any other game
I thought the same thing about the story. The main story was so bad, but the world stories were so good they must have been developed by different teams. It was a night and day difference.
@@Zectifinmaybe if it had a story worth a shit, it’d be a contender good game, but definitely not genre defining or standard setting, such as something like bg3
About the Fromsoftware designing co-op and invasions: Remember the introduction in Dark Souls 1? Solaire with the whitestone, then at the end of the Undead Church we find the Gargoyles that were overwelming, but you could summon Solaire, you also find Oswald and Lautrec in the Church aswell. I believe that Fromsoftware should focus more in these focused and connected interactions (also rewards), and maybe make bosses and areas where you can and/or cannot summon help, they could even implement that for the story and those classic "gimmick moments" or just for spectacle.
I literally just want to join a friends game and just beat the game with him.. Dark Souls has a horrible coop experience. It mightv'e been fine when the first one came out, and the idea was novel. But not having anything that works even half decently in Elden Ring is just bad.
I absolutely love the last boss of this game! The mechanics of the fight are phenomenal. I do think that it is a more than a little outside of the difficulty curve compared to all the other world bosses. For most other games, a difficulty spike like this would be reserved for a secret/optional boss, but Remnant 2 has it as the finale.
i have grown to like the final boss also, frankly, my biggest gripe with it at this time, is there is no to my knowledge alternate kill for a different boss reward. I really enjoyed finding and doing the other world boss alt kills for different gear.
it's so damn good. the atmosphere and arenas themselves are incredible in their own right. the best thing about it is that it initially seems crazy hard and overwhelming, but you come to realize that everything can be learned and played around, there really is no unavoidable "you lose now" bullshit. once you "get it" it was one of the most satisfying "click" moments ive experienced in any soulslike game
@@DevlinXIII its mainly the spike that will get you. Isshin is kind of a monster, but he still within Sekiro's difficulty curve. Its a cadence that you expect out of a Sekiro boss. A call and a response if you will, but with great intensity. Remnant 2's final boss deviates quite differently from the standard dance, which is why the most common advice is to rely on sound cues over visual. (Also the effects can be painfully distracting and drew a fair share of complaints.) It isn't just the intense call and response that demands your reactions, but there is an additional mechanical layer that demands your mental bandwidth, which makes it such a satisfying boss. It is definitely doable if you can beat Isshin tho. The reflex demands are not that high.
The two controversial bosses that you mentioned, unironically are my favorite bosses in the entire game, because they are very unique in a soulslike game, and I don't think I've ever seen anything like them before. The first one is a gimmick boss, that's true, but it's a never before seen gimmick. And the shifting mechanic of the final boss actually surprised me. In fact, I might even say that the final boss is in my top 5 bosses of all videogames. (P.s. Idk if I'm the weird one, but I find annihilation to be not even close in terms of difficulty/frustration (e.g. cancer, nightweaver))
I didn't find Annihilation to be all *that* difficult either, but then again I was playing Engineer. Even if it has taken me 20 tries, I still would consider it to be an extremely cool boss.
@@Tobascodagama Annihilation becomes far easier once you are used to back step dodging instead of rolling, and Engineer trains you to do this better than any other archetype while also doing really good damage, especially when paired with summoner or handler for the extra skill damage (summoner being the best imo because not only is the bonus damage higher than handler, you can detonate the summons while holding the turret, most other archetypes have inaccessible skills while in that state)
I liked the puzzle bosses, they mix things up instead of just blasting everything as hard as possible. And the last boss was super cool, getting good at that dance was great.
Small note on ambushes\hordes. They don't spawn randomly or at certain points. They spawn durning combat. So if you are trying to "clear the area" by shooting enemies ahead, there is a big chance that horde will spawn. And when horde spawn, there is also a chance there will be a special enemy, which has different sound cue. I think it's a system designed to prevent people from just sniping everything from great distance, to bring combat to the player. Also Story of Remnant is pretty much just to justify your character to explore worlds. It's "journey, not destination" story. Overarching plot of remnant is more of a lore, rather than a tale. They will try and make it something more substantial, but in the end, the game will always be about just going into a different worlds and seeing cool stuff. Protagonist's official name\titles are "Wanderer" in a first game and "Traveler" in second one, which supports this idea.
yeah i wasn't sure what he was trying to say with ambushes. if you start fighting regular enemies, an elite has a chance to spawn and makes the sound que. Enemies don't just randomly spawn in areas you've cleared, the elites just spawn somewhere near you. Also when you rest enemies respawn like any souls game.
Hearing you talk about Remnant 2 over the last few weeks on podcasts really got me interested. I’m not usually into shooters but it seems amazing, I’ll definitely be checking it out.
Yes! Glad you found time to come back to this one. It was my most anticipated game this year, and it didn't disappoint. Looking forward to more co-op fun as the DLC comes out.
the best thing about this game is that its not a looter shooter, your loot doesn't become useless and you toss it. you keep it forever and its always useful and you want to collect everything to make broken builds. Like he was saying about his bleed build, I have a build right now where i have a dagger that makes the enemies bleed on heavy attack. got a ring that makes them bleed on a heavy attack. amulet that increases status duration and effect. gun with the bleed mutator on it. got a ring that makes me regen health when an enemy near me is bleeding. you can make some broken fun builds with the right equipment and classes.
It seems that Elden Ring's co-op mode is geared more towards offering a helping hand rather than a fully partnered experience, which feels like a deliberate design choice for a game that doesn't revolve around loot grinding. Comparing it to Remnant's co-op doesn't seem quite right to me. Nevertheless, I'm quite fond of the co-op in Remnant and enjoy playing it thoroughly.
The issue with that is that it just kinda fucking sucks ass. Trying to enjoy Elden Ring alongside a friend is just a massive pain and nearly just flat out inferior to any game with actual coop. While I assume a large part of why fromsoft does it this way is explicitly to prevent people from playing with friends since they want it to be singleplayer, that doesn't make the coop itself any better.
@jacobnorris8256 I mean, they aren't trying to prevent it, it just wasn't made to *be* a co-op game. But yeah, that does make the co-op suck *as* a co-op system. I don't think it's *that* much of a pain, it just takes more commitment to do it. I still think the OC is correct, they aren't supposed to be the same thing so there's not a great way to compare them. Of course Rata doesn't have to verify anything he says though because everything is subjective lol.
Hard agree. Remnant 2 is my personal GOTY and the devs are honestly the best team in the industry imo. They CONSTANTLY delve into the community to explain the changes they're making, hint at plans for the future, and respond to criticism directly.
Great video, especially the part talking about the final boss. I can understand people becoming frustrated with it, but for me it's one of the best bosses I ever fought, it's just a shame the main story sucks.
Great video as usual Ratatoskr. I really enjoyed the game the first few months it was out. I loved the fact you can coop with someone for a long while instead of being sent back to 'your world' after a boss is defeated. Time to go back and level up some classes, unlock a new one and find some sweet loot.
Great video. I think you covered it really well. This is probably my favorite game. It’s not perfect. For sure the main story could be better fleshed out. Or replaced all together. But nearly everything else has soooo much love and creativity put into it. The puzzles and the lore found throughout. Your note about getting lost for a few in one of the books. I mean so many of those are very well written. They obviously have a really good pool of talent at gunfire and I can only hope we see more from them in the coming years. I think my favorite part about this game is how well everything works together. From coop with your friends to how to create builds and how varied they can be. How symbiotic all the gear can become. It’s really really well thought through. They did a fantastic job with the Halloween event and in a few the first DLC! Great game and great coverage!
I will say: the main storyline, as skeletal and poor as it is, makes a bit more sense when you’ve played through the first game. It’s not an excuse, but I found showing up to ward 13 and seeing all these characters I knew incredibly heartening, and it made me invested in, say, rescuing Clementine. It doesn’t change the fact that the main plot is effectively a flimsy scaffold to house the (much more interesting) plot of the worlds, but the context makes it more palatable, at least to me.
the biggest problem for me with souls coop is that it exists to be an "Easy mode" to help struggling players, rather than a way to let you experience the game with your friends.
Happy that you finally gave this game a go. The first Remnant was actually the game that got me finally into souls games and Im forever thankful for that. I recommend giving it a try at some point.
same! i first played RemnantFTA and omg it was so good it finally got me to try the actual fromsoft games and it just changed my gaming experience for life, Im a huge fromsoft fan now as I belieive their gameplay is unmatched but remnant is the exception! I love R2 but I def miss some stuff from R1 like the labyrinth and weapons/mods, maybe they will bring them back in the dlc? hope so!
The first Remnant had 100x better story. It felt like a sense of discovery and purpose. Plus the final boss made sense from a lore perspective as opposed to Remnant 2.
From what I understand lore wise it makes perfect sense, could have been more directly explained for those that didn't listen to all the side dialogue options, but someone who didn't want to do that probably didn't care about the story idk tho.
Remnant: From the Ashes had a weak-but-serviceable story, but decent worldbuilding and a grimmer tone. Remnant 2's main story is dross, dreck, filth, with few redeeming qualities. The area stories are... fiiiiine, I guess.
Remnant 1 I felt had better main story because you were discovering the experiments that had been done which led to the end of the world. The idea of Dreamers was incredible and there was mention of other forces aside from the Root which were contaminating the multiverse. We just only see the Root but in other places it could manifest as something different. Loved the journey of finding Ford and all of the lore bits he left behind as well. Loved Remnant 2 but think they should’ve blended both games and given us around 10 biomes as opposed to the 3. Even the first game had more in terms of content.
I am one of those players who stopped playing because the final boss. I can’t see what is happening in that fight. I started to figure out it’s pattern but when the “lightshow” starts, my brain can’t follow the dance. Also this is the only boss where my summoner build is completely useless. My summons can’t reach the boss and they are killed within seconds. It is the complete opposite of the first “gimmick” boss. I died a lot until I figured out what to do. But when I did, it made so much sense and I still say it was a brilliant idea of a fight. The last boss is just too much to process. If you just make one mistake, it will punish you with a chain of attacks with brutal damage. I tried to play adventure mode, but I didn’t have the satisfaction of beating the game and I just slowly forget to go back. 😥
I would agree the gap between all of the bosses in remnant versus the final boss is a MASSIVE leap. It's fantastic for those wanting that mechanical/audio queued dance, but it's 100% a huge leap in difficulty, information, and interaction.
So glad you liked the game. I recommend to anyone that gets stuck to mess around with builds, helped me get through a lot of sticking points and I suck at shooters
My favorite moment so far in remnant two is me and a friend taking the time to look for every possible clue to solve the puzzle where all the bodies are gathered (if you know you know, don’t want to spoil it). To not look that up and think of ways to solve the puzzle and finally getting it was a blast!
Regarding the story, yea. The main story is a bit better if you played the first game since most characters are in both games you'll be more invested but still not great. First game had story issues as well but it improved with the expansions and the very strong worldbuilding carried it too.
Yeah my thoughts exactly. As someone who played number 1 & cared about the story, remnant 2s story I only really enjoyed bcos I already cared about the characters, plus i think it's also bcos earth wasn't the focus of this game, R1 earth was a major location, R2 only had root earth which is story exclusive.
@@Willow4526I kinda hope that we get to explore Earth more in one of the expansions. Mudtooth's dialogue implies that the Iskal have begun to creep into Earth, so we may have a new threat to face off with.
I found Remnant 1's story weak-but-serviceable and Remnant 2's story almost insultingly bad. Some good parts in the individual areas, but mostly poorly-written dreck.
I agree that the final boss is bonkers, I was doing co-op with my brothers and the health-pool that gave it along with the sensory overload issue you mentioned had us trying for hours. I instead opted to try and beat it on my own so I could focus, limit distractions and variables. I managed it, and now I feel I could take it on with others who have beat it before but for any co-op party facing it for the first time it is a doozy. It was pretty dang cool and reminded me of the DLC Final Boss they made for the first game. A true spectacle. N'Erud was my favorite world in the game by far. I felt it was so...complete and alien. Every piece of it fitting together seamlessly to tell a doubly tragic tale. I don't despise the main story, but it certainly is carried by the individual world stories. I adore their attitude toward puzzles and secrets. It's a very, very good sign to see a video like this come out about the game 4 months after release.
The best thing in this game has to be the puzzles and secrets. It's Zelda level quality. They are sooo freaking satisfying to figure out and not "I need the wiki to even fathom" BS. You can figure out most of them by looking at the environment, reading descriptions, testing that "would this work?" intrusive thought, and some previous game knowledge. That one in the sewer that needs 90min to solve is bad but nothing else is like that.
Agreed on how hard the final boss was, but it did come down to memorization and staying calm. I did have to walk away from this final boss for a few weeks, but I did beat it solo on my first Veteran run. I got lucky with the puzzle boss you mentioned, where some of my friends had already beat it and could explain the gimmick, but I see how you could feel overwhelm with that one, considering you can only see so much around you. That one I REALLY recommend playing with buddies if possible.
The fun i had figuring out a boss with my friend was great. Yes some of them are gimmicks/strategy bosses like the rubik's cube boss. But slowly figuring out what is happening in the boss, finding the solution on your own and then kearning the skills to eventually beat them is such a euphoric feeling
Knowing how critical you can be of certain games sometimes, it's very nice to hear such a glowing review of Remnant 2 from you. Glad you enjoyed it. I haven't had the time to play it all the way through yet, but the original is one of my favorite games of the last five years.
It is very similar, so you will probably like it. To me the main story was good because I played the first one and knew the lore and world, so was excited to see where it was going to go.
A good friend of mine invited me to play Remnant 2 (I consider myself a soulbornekiring veteran, but of course I'm not even in the 5% of best players ever or whatever, it's just that I feel like these games are deeply engraved in my heart, like a best friend that you grew up with and is the reference point of your personality....but enough about that) and he got me to Losomn, saying that well, this is Yharnam, enjoy. And oh my god, it is exactly as you described. The world feels so alive, mystical and inspiring...It really felt like experiencing a Yharnam 2.0 thing...Truly invigorating. Haven't played Lies of P or Lords of the Fallen yet, but of all the soulsike, this feeling is actually top for me, and Remnant gets all the praise I can give for that!
Elden Ring coop mod is S-Tier. I had so many friends just nope out of the game since they didnt want to play solo but didnt want to keep fighting twinked out invaders. You can also create HUGE groups but gets pretty wonky outside a few people.
I think EVERYONE wanted or at least imagined how it would be to have a Summoner Build (maybe just a starting class that focuses on npc sprit companions). Interesting and customizable companion mechanics in a souls game?! I was up for it! I'd love to have a player companion like a "dog spirit ashes" or something, y'know. Could be a giant hawk or a tortoise if the game and it's lore is above regular dogs. Just something more reliable than a phantom who I need to re-summon every fricking 10 min when I go for a walk because something killed or disconnected my dog, sending it home. It's a host's life this Elden Ring... also I realised - hey, ER's no damn Co-Op game! 🤔 Here, even the Archetypes work so fine with the dog mechanic, I actually like Remnant 2!! Archetypes which are mostly chosen by Hosts is to be the forever underdog... or a dog on a leash of their phantom. Ngl, that makes the invader just a rabid dog that needs putting down and completely kills the dog in me...
I really enjoyed the puzzles. I avoided as many puzzle spoilers as possible for my first playthrough and expeditions and only started looking stuff up once I was happy with the amount I had found so I could put together more builds. Damn did I miss alot organically, but the game felt so much better for the ones I did find
I've beat DS3 and Elden Ring no hit. Both of those combine is no where near the stress and time it took me to do a new character on Hardcore Apocalypse. Definitely my favorite personal achievement
I've experimented with the ambush system a lot because my first playthrough I was trying to play stealthily. The way you described the trigger can be perceived as generally true for most players but isn't technically correct. The way it works can be conceptualized as a hidden ambush bar that fills gradually as you have aggro. There are some factors that can increase the rate at which it fills; my speculation from experience is primarily number of enemies that have aggro on you and time elapsed since the last ambush. For instance I can go through 75% of a zone taking out enemies stealthily with a bow/crossbow, at that point though when I miss a one-shot the ambush will instantly trigger.
the devs quite literally said this game was balanced exclusively for solo play and they just did the coop balancing after and thats just bonus health and dmg that the boss deals xD the bosses feel good because they were just designed to feel good.
I played the first couple hours of this and I really liked it, but I was a little wiped out from lies of P. I'm definitely gonna be coming back to this game when I'm back in the souls mood (and hopefully can find a co-op partner)
The final boss of Remnant 2 is my favorite boss of all time. I love it so much, the presentation, the music, the design, the phase 2 is SO cool, and the way it confirms lore theories of Remnant 1 was incredible.
Oh, first few seconds of the actual content about Remnant reminded me of something you said in the Ruri podcast; so, no spoilers, you _can_ absolutely beat the entire game using nothing but melee weapons. However, _most_ melee weapons, will not be sufficient, or rather capable of, doing that. There are some enemies, that most melee weapons simply won't be able to damage, but there are _some_ melee weapons that are capable of damaging even those enemies, and I'm not talking about hucking spears at things. I won't go into detail about what those weapons are, I'll let you find that out for yourself, but I have seen melee builds that are _very_ strong, absurdly so, melee builds that are capable of easily crunching through the highest difficulty. Again, I won't tell you what those are, just know that whatever you're doing with melee, odds are, you aren't pushing the playstyle nearly to its limit. So, don't give up on the melee build, unless you find yourself really hating it.
A small correction, Veteran isn't normal mode... the next step up. Don't start on Veteran unless you are planning to go in with a team, or you just want a hard climb.
It’s wild how much stuff is in this video I didn’t get in my full exploration run. You didn’t mention adventure mode where you can endlessly reroll any world on any difficulty.
The game is fantastic and i also love the boss designs, especially the final boss although it has one stupid attack were it triggers the hitbox before audio and visual connects. The game also has a bit to much delayed attacks, but they are all in all better readable than many in lies of p. I am really looking forward to the first Update!
Remnants co-op was some of the most fun i had with my friends and it being improved and being part of the focus for Remnant 2, it was much more enjoyable and more cooperative than Remnant: From the Ashes. Overall, im just glad Remnant is receiving the attention and love it deserves after so long.
That's quite a fair assessment, specially the part about the individual world side-stories being far more interesting than the main story, that was pretty much the case in the original game as well.
I’ve played remnant for a while and was hyped to play 2. With dlc coming soon I’m hyped to see such a good game receive attention. I’ll just say you can definitely play solo it’s just harder at first do to lack of gear.
Honestly I don’t care about the boss experience. There is nothing more fun than just chilling and playing with friends, my friend and I played all of Elden Ring together including the big open areas that take ages to walk through on foot and it was fun af
I got my best friend to get this game with me, i loved the first gsme and he never really got into souls likes but loves shooters. We best the game last week and completly loved it, one of my favorites in the genre. So many builds, guns, melee weapons and runs to go on.
Loved this game. One of my favorites from this year, in a year where everything was extremely competitive. Plenty of issues at launch but overall a great experience, and I really hope there is a Remnant 3.
well Remnant 1 didn't do so well and we got a Remnant 2. Remnant 2 is a big success. I don't see how they wouldn't make a 3rd considering the reception of 2.
This and the last game are my favorite games thank you for the review. And also I’m pretty sure veteran is hard and the first difficulty is normal. I don’t think that there is a easy mode. Final boss is hard either way but it’s even more difficult for newer players on veteran.
The weakest part is low enemy variety, with some enemies being boring to fight, like rolling balls or drones, paired with long levels. Especially when you start replaying the game multiple times., gets stale fast. Many of them a difficult to run through ignoring the enemies as well, so you can't skip the annoying parts. Like last level has effectively one constant enemy type which is non-threat to boot. Was surprised there are no humanoid Root from 1st game, they were iconic and satisfying to fight. Hopefully DLCs will address that and add at least 2 enemy type per world to mix in. Also they made many encounters a slog for melee focused builds since the enemies just never near you or too dangerous to get close. Not the worst thing, since it is a shooter first. Yet I had a feeling they wanted it to be more prominent playstyle, especially since challenger is a poster boy in promo material. The support for the game by devs is great too. They've addressed many issues in time and not afraid to remake systems drastically, like changing how armors and defense works. And the final boss, while hard, is quite fair when you get over the visuals and intensity, everything is telegraphed well. Phenomenal game overall.
You know, like others have said, I’m glad you’re talking about this game. Love your channel and love Dark Souls. The Remnant games have been TOP-TIER examples of developers playing to their strengths and creating a truly Western take on the Souls genre.
Someone with no taste here lol I really enjoyed the main story mostly for what it continued from the first game and what it implies about the universe. Very cool stuff! This video has me saying, ‘He gets it!’ And I’d have to agree on that final boss. Holy cow did I enjoy that fight!
Your video reminded me how I saw other people playing and the main story made such a poor impression on me that I decided against playing. I didn't expect the game to be able to overcome that, but now I'm willing to take another look.
Great review, very thoughtful, your initial analysis of Elden Ring caught my attention and made sure I was going to watch the whole video. Pretty much agree with everything, it's been a while since I've had a game that my one friend who's got this game and I just lose whole days playing together without realizing it. Also happy I'm not the only one puzzled by how awful the main story is (really just Clementine, omg every scene with her makes me cringe), whereas the individual world stories are freaking amazing, each one having its own jawdropping moments. Rock on brother.
Something I love most of all is the fact that you get to experience co-op seemlessly without needing to download mods. No waiting at bond fires for summon signs. ;)
Ah, Remnant...I wasn't all that great solo in the first game but for Remnant 2, I beat the whole game solo on Veteran. Not gonna lie, it was hard but when I got the hang of it and found what I needed for my build, I found the game considerably more enjoyable. I started with Challenger and after finding the right items, I focused my build entirely on damage reduction and health regen. It trivialized mob encounters but didn't make the bosses push-overs. It really was fun. Oh uh just a point that you forgot in the vid -- regarding loot -- when you find duplicates of weapons, you don't get a 2nd copy but rather a free upgrade for that weapon. It gives the game -- especially bosses -- great replayability. IMO. By the way, Ratatoskr...if you liked Remnant even a little bit and you wanna delve into the origin of the story (and get a little closer to a true souls-like experience for the series) I'd like to suggest that you play "Chronos: Before the Ashes"
Great video man, only thing I'd correct is that Veteran difficulty is not normal, difficulty in this game varies widely within each option but Veteran would be on average hard (with the final boss being a complete pain as you describe) and the lowest difficulty "Survivor" would be on average normal but many times too easy and sometimes too hard for a newbie.
I truly hated the coop to invasion balance in ER. I got the game and beat it solo, convinced a friend to buy it since he watched me play and wanted to coop. By the time we reached Stormveil we were getting invaded non-stop by min/max item-swapped people (bringing back items from Haligree/consecrated snowfield) who would just AoE/1 hit you over and over. It took a game I truly enjoyed solo to one I couldn't be bothered to play coop and drove my friend away entirely until seamless coop when he could finally play it with me without us getting invaded back to back to back whenever we played.
I think the best way to experience Rem2 is on the nightmare (hardest initially available) difficulty, and be willing to make use of the re-roll campaign function. This difficulty explicitly states its not designed for a first playthrough, but a more geared character, but I think that makes the build crafting and progression much more meaningful. It is pretty likely you will get stuck so hard when you do this that you need to re-roll the campaign, which will give you an opportunity to explore a new world with new loot and gain strength to overcome that challenge bringing the loot and build aspect of this game into focus in a way lower difficulties can't. It also makes the normal encounters with small groups of enemies really meaningful and strategic because you just can't brute force past them. (This is all coming from someone who is pretty experienced as souls games, but awful at 3rd person shooters, so its not a matter of skill but instead using difficulty to force meaningful choices, and that's really what its about for me.)
I find that to be a terrible decision. You might not know this, but most people don't enjoy playing through the same content many times, grinding and mindlessly rerolling to have the item spawn that they want. Not everyone has 5000 hours in WoW and has severe brain damage from mind numbing grinding sessions.
I played through remnant 1 during the hype leading up to 2. It was on sale. I was genuinely upset with myslef that i missed out on that amazing game. Now i need to not sleep on this one
I was playing with 2 friends and I am a veteran of the souls games. I Beaten everyone I played including skeiro and recently Ive folded lies of P. The last boss FUCKED me 9 ways to sunday. My friends would help me get part way through the first part then they would die. I had to basically beat the final boss by myself at that point and it was hands down the most fun I have EVER had in a souls like game. The feeling of overcoming adversity made me wish more games would come even close to that level of spectacle and mind fuckery.
The world stories were incredible. I remember the one boss you beat and could talk too for like 15 minutes strait and *Loved* it. Shame the earth side was aweful.
Hard agree
Say that again with the final boss, or the gimmick boss mentioned before in the video. However, it was a mistake having difficulty options in the first place.
@@nicholasnajibi3082well... that's like... your opinion, man.

I really like the final boss tbh, it's rare to have a boss fight that makes you more focus on sounds cue rather than the visual cue.
Literally most bosses in Lies of P but people complained because they “can’t see wind up animations” lol
@@TheUltimateRey really? which boss? i've cleared ng+1 LoP but i don't think there's a boss there with obvious sounds cue.
+ devs posted something along these lines; "please don't datamine our game...pretty please ;)" (on twitter I believe?) which was an obvious invitation to very much welcomed datamining
such amazing game design having 99.99999% of players looking shit up on youtube instead of it being unlocked in a logical and reasonable way /S
these "secrets" fucking suck and do nothing to help the game. grinding for summoner is so damn stupid for example, what an insanely boring grind
Annihilation is a masterclass in boss fight design. Beaten him on Apocalypse several times, and I always look forward to facing him.
I can't say enough how happy i am to see you talking about this game. I never thought I'd see the day.
I thought the same thing about the story. The main story was so bad, but the world stories were so good they must have been developed by different teams. It was a night and day difference.
Remnant 2 is my 2023 GOTY and I'm so glad more people are picking it up. It absolutely scratched that co-op itch I had for a soulslike.

About the Fromsoftware designing co-op and invasions:
Remember the introduction in Dark Souls 1? Solaire with the whitestone, then at the end of the Undead Church we find the Gargoyles that were overwelming, but you could summon Solaire, you also find Oswald and Lautrec in the Church aswell.
I believe that Fromsoftware should focus more in these focused and connected interactions (also rewards), and maybe make bosses and areas where you can and/or cannot summon help, they could even implement that for the story and those classic "gimmick moments" or just for spectacle.
"He gave us a soapstone. He must be the new solaire."
I literally just want to join a friends game and just beat the game with him.. Dark Souls has a horrible coop experience. It mightv'e been fine when the first one came out, and the idea was novel. But not having anything that works even half decently in Elden Ring is just bad.
I still cannot believe how you didn't put Remnant 2 in your "best Soulslike of the year" community post when it was easily my favourite.
Was it so hard? I feel abit nervous whenever they compare with Sekiro...just remembering Ashina last form, jisus...
The cube boss feels like something from a Mario game but somehow it still works. I actually love it.
Trying to get the alt kill on nightweaver took me so damn long
I didn't find Annihilation to be all *that* difficult either, but then again I was playing Engineer. Even if it has taken me 20 tries, I still would consider it to be an extremely cool boss.
Annihilation is definitely the hardest, because it'll hurt not only your hp, but also your fps.
I never play co-op in souls, but loved co-op in remnant. Haven't even seen the video yet but im inclined to agree 😅
The final boss using bookmarks on attacks that they can return to later is the best part about it.
Remnant 2 is such an amazing game. Was happy to see you doing such an in-depth video on it! Can’t wait for the dlc soon
I 100 percent agree with you .@@jacobnorris8256
@jacobnorris8256 I mean, they aren't trying to prevent it, it just wasn't made to *be* a co-op game. But yeah, that does make the co-op suck *as* a co-op system. I don't think it's *that* much of a pain, it just takes more commitment to do it. I still think the OC is correct, they aren't supposed to be the same thing so there's not a great way to compare them. Of course Rata doesn't have to verify anything he says though because everything is subjective lol.
If you are looking for some actual co op fun in elden ring get the seemless coop mod for it. Man does it make it so much more fun!
Hard agree. Remnant 2 is my personal GOTY and the devs are honestly the best team in the industry imo. They CONSTANTLY delve into the community to explain the changes they're making, hint at plans for the future, and respond to criticism directly.
Then they should make the story less ass.
"It's absolute fucking bullshit. I love it." is the most Ratatoskr reaction possible to the final boss. Exactly what I expected you'd say.
I really enjoyed my time in Remnant 1 and 2 is a wonderful upgrade in every way. Loving my time in this game.
Great video! I thought for sure you would speak about the Cube boss when you mentioned the two outlier bosses lol
Pretty sure that was the first boss he was referring to
Happy that you finally gave this game a go.
Been playing this vame for a few days, so glad you mentioned the loadout thing. I missed that in game.
Love your videos mate, glad you enjoyed Remnant 2.
Its game of the year for me.
I loved the final boss. It was a sensory overload at first, but once things clicked, it became one of my favorites
@@tinminator8905 I've been able to play some of it, it seems like they just built upon the first one in every good way possible.

I finally am so glad you;re reviewing this
I think EVERYONE wanted or at least imagined how it would be to have a Summoner Build (maybe just a starting class that focuses on npc sprit companions).
We need more people to play this series. It’s so good. Even chronos has its flaws, but is so fun and is such an awesome concept.
You've really been in a SOTN mood recently I don't know if this is the 2nd or 3rd video featuring its ost.
Glad you liked it, you lost me at co-op but it's a good informative video.
I just realized that I could create a "Handler Walter" build and name my hound "621" ;)
“The main story will be enjoyed by nobody with taste.” That made me genuinely chuckle.
What lore theories? I’m just getting into these 2 games and actually love the bit of lore I know
Oh, first few seconds of the actual content about Remnant reminded me of something you said in the Ruri podcast; so, no spoilers, you _can_ absolutely beat the entire game using nothing but melee weapons.
You sold me. Gotta add it to my list to play
Great video man gives the game the proper praise it deserves from someone who understands the games mechanics
Exactly, one day we will get a full complete co-op/MMO souls like from FS.
Great video but I am saddened you didn't talk more about the mystery archetype that whole thing was such a highlight in the games life span
I have been waiting for this video lmao.
Nice respectful title. Nice voice work. The editing was leveled up or should i say skilled up.
Interesting. How well does co-op play/pairing/instancing with randoms work? Is there an emote/comms wheel to communicate with other players?
Your video reminded me how I saw other people playing and the main story made such a poor impression on me that I decided against playing. I didn't expect the game to be able to overcome that, but now I'm willing to take another look.
for the last boss the only way i could fight it was to mute the music not because it was bad but I couldnt take all the input of senses
No waiting at bond fires for summon signs. ;)
I appreciate how the Gameplay section has one of the greatest bangers on the entire soundtrack just playing for 4/5 of it. Hell yeah.
The only thing I miss from the first one was that armor used to give perks, and that added to the customization.
Yes!!!!! Add one more to the list praising the co-op-ability of Remnant!
Remnant 2 was fantastic even as a single player game. I can't wait for the DLC next week
Is that the SJR OST? I feel like that music in the beginning is from the special mega dungeon they release added (I have finished neither)
I played through remnant 1 during the hype leading up to 2. It was on sale. I was genuinely upset with myslef that i missed out on that amazing game. Now i need to not sleep on this one
Ive played through Losmn twice and have yet to see the red prince. i love this part of the game. the secrets are insane.
It's the moment when all your teammates are down, but the boss is almost dead. The adrenaline hits you to finish what you started.
