2006 was a crazy year for "GTA like" games for sure. GTA VCS, Godfather, Scarface, Driver Parallel lines, Saints Row, Just Cause... All of them in a single year.

Man this game holds such a special place in my heart. I played this all the time when I was young (I was 11 when this released) with my brothers and my dad! This was my introduction into the universe of The Godfather and now it’s one of my favorite films of all time.
This game was superb and actually had a lot of intricate systems and ideas!
I’m probably blinded by nostalgia goggles but I really enjoyed my time with this.
I love the first film but kind of dislike Part II (maybe even more than Part III). I need to revisit that one with fairness in mind, maybe I was in a poor mood or didn't see it in ideal conditions.
Not just Nostalgia goggles. I played through it recently and grinding out the businesses/warehouses/compounds was still a ton of fun.
Played this game at a young age, also played it with my older brother quite a bit! I absolutely love this game and I played through this game so many times. 100% is held near and dear in my heart lmao
This game is a S tier when it comes to replayability. The store/base take overs were great but the assassination missions with secondary objectives for creative kills stuck out with me the most.

Yeah grinding out all the extortions, warehouses, compounds and the side missions are fun as fuck. Its repetitive for sure, but the gameplay flows nice and it has good pacing. Only big con is the game requires a shit ton of driving lol

It is weird that there are no radio stations in this game. I did a little googling and by 1946, 40% of cars had radios
Probably a pain to get copyright for the godfather AND music tracks
Licensing music is expensive so they opted out for it. It would have added to the costs
I love the fact they considered making a Godfather RPG. I can just imagine a bunch of guys on a message board spreading rumors about how you can save Don Corleone.

I absolutely loved this game, it had no right being as good as it was
I spent a lot of time with the character and clothing customization in this game. It was a great system with some really great options... On top of being an overall pretty fantastic game.
This strikes me as one of many, many games from that generation that I loved and spent many hours on as a teenager but playing it now wouldn't be the same. I'll leave the memories of me hammering this on ps2 and psp as they are and rewatch the film

I loved this game back then in the og Xbox era.. I saw it as a refined GTA.. remember that the secondary content like the takeover of entire warehouses was amazing.. really revolutionary for the era.. a hidden gem 💎

Great video as always, but just one correction: the PS3 version actually has more content than the Wii/X360 versions. It's smaller stuff like hit and blackmail missions, weapon merchants, and a tank truck (and other small stuff, it's listed in the wiki)
I never want to play that version due to the motion controls 🤮

i loved this game as a kid and didnt watch the movies until my early 20s
100%'ed this game a few years back. Amazing game with quite a lot of content packed in. Took a long time to get all the rackets and what not. The safehouses were an actual challenge. If you really want to do a challenge run, try to take all four houses right at the start of the game.
5:17 "DeMartini" now there's a Mafia name if I ever heard one. The Mafia clearly infiltrated the development of this game.
What's crazy is they used tech that we are still calling high tech for modeling player models. They really tried to do good for this game series. Would love to actually get remaster for this series. Or even another game with the mechanics. Really like the build a mob crew take the town over. Godfather 2 game imo felt better at capturing that gameplay but not great. Still mainly a story game with shooting and driving still good tho.

I remember going to my cousins house to play this game on his ps3, I never watched the movie but after hearing about it from people saying it's one of the best mafia movie ever made, I decided to buy the collection from my local goodwill, and the story is just amazing, the game trying to fit itself in the movie was alright but what I loved about it the most was the side missions and business empires that made you feel like a boss
I am actually playing this on and off for about 2 months, with an emulator on Android, I haven't done any story mission yet except meeting Luca Brasi, and I almost captured most of the businesses, warehouse, and compounds 13 hours in. It reminds me of how I envisioned GTA Online before it came out. I want to try a bank heist? I can, I want to take over a small business? I can, I want to just start chaos? I can, I want to capture the most difficult compound with nothing but 2 bombs and 1 snub nose? I can.
Just seeing your money raise each week because of the things you've accomplished throughout the game is awesome, it reminds me of that addicting mechanic from GTA Chinatown Wars.
the godfather was very underrated and was a ahead of its time it had character creation good driving mechanics with weight the movement the shooting was great and physicss looked good the extorio system and ai were good .. for its time it was fun it had the foundation of a great game like factions and a good cast the only thing missing was more player agency
I loved taking over every business in the city as soon as you were allowed. Which breaks the narrative of the game 🙂
This game and it's sequel deserve a remaster like they did Mafia 1 and 2
I actually return to this game once in a while: fibish it, leave it for a year or two, and than out of nowhere, i get the idea to play it again. It has that charm that i cant really explain. Yes, its not great game, yes its made by EA, but i always have a soft place in my heart.
Oh, and first Godfather is my favorite movie, so it also explains alot. ❤
P. S. If you struggle with chase mission, hold the behind camera and spam the horn until the destination: enemy cars cant spawn in front of you and you wont hit NPC cars because of horn

Just beat it the other day on the 360, super fun taking down all the strong holds and neighborhoods. Also made the other families more memorable so watching the movies will be more fun now.

I love shootouts in this game so much that I always become don of NYC in every play thru... there're also 3 star version of weapons like hitman pistol or street sweeper

I absolutely loved this video game when it came out. I still think it's the best licensed game of all time. I think about it every once in a while. It's been ages since I've played it. Maybe I'll have to give it another go someday.
The psp version of this game was a childhood favourite of mine. The only downside was it didn’t have an open world. But since I struggled with the open world chases on the Xbox version I preferred the psp version 😅😅
This game still has some of the most satisfying gunplay and hand to hand combat
to this day, no game can capture the level of fun that the godfather, the godfather 2, scarface the world is yours, mafia, mafia ii, gta trilogy, gta vcs, gta lcs, simpsons hit and run, saints row 1 and 2, sleeping dogs, true crime ny and la have captured. they all need remakes on ps5 tech.
I replayed this on a PS3 emulator this year, it still holds up to this day, I even got the DLC working enjoying the extra clothing that was really good too.
Plus some missions and Guns from Level 4 which are locked behind also a DLC, I even 100% to get the Don Ending and it had me tied to my seat the whole time i was playing.
If i have to describe this game it would be like this
"As a kid i was playing a game but, as i grow up, i realized i was watching the film evolving with me"
Looking back to this time period in gaming is a weird feeling for me. Like a guy in the 90's looking back to his young manhood in the 70's. It's both far away and just happened. But becoming more distant every year. Getting older sure is weird. (It's my first time doing it, so...)

I was on my 8th Grade New York field trip the month after Godfather was released on PS2. My mom gave me $80 for the 3 day trip in New York. I was 14 then. Our class went to this shopping mall area under the Rockerfeller center and I saw a Gamestop in this place. I ditched my chapperone and I went to the Gamestop looking to buy this game. I found one of the few copies left on the shelf and brought it up to the register.
Cashier looked at me, looked at the game and said "You're not old enough kid, you need a parent to buy this for you. I said give me a minute.
I walked right outside the gamestop and found a black guy walking by, I said to him "Can you act like my dad for 3 minutes for $20?" He asked "To do what?" I said "To buy me the Godfather at Gamestop." He said "Shit, everyone should enjoy "The Godfather".
So he walked back in with me and we walked up to the Cashier, I said "This is me dad." The cashier looked at me, then looked at the guy in knowing that he was being bullshitted. The black guy said "What? You gotta problem with me and my son!?"
Cashier said "Nope, here's your game kid." I paid the cashier and after we left the store I gave the guy $20, leaving me with $10 for the next 2 days in New York. Guy said "Enjoy it kid." I said "By dad".
Thats the story of how I had a father in my life for 5 minutes and I cherish it to this day.
Godfather The Game II was also well done.

The Blackhand@ system, combined with the tricky extortion and assasination minigames are the essence of the game and where its satisfactions lie. I still play it yearly on my PS2.
A remake of this game like Yakuza: Kiwami or Mafia would be appreciated.
I believe Pacinos Scarface deal included not being able to have his likeness in other companies games

They made the warriors its one of the best movie based games ever. They made sure that half of the games story was as accurate as the movie. You prob have heard about it

I own this xbox version of this game. It has great graphics especially for its time of release. I only played it for about 30 minutes and became tired of it for some reason. I need to give the game another try.

I have the PS3 port, The Don’s Edition and to be honest, it’s pretty good. Now I don’t mean to come across as an elitist, but as it’s the definitive version, if you find it, either in a store or on Ebay or where ever, DO NOT PASS ON IT. Because “Someday, and that day may never come…I may call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day…except this…as a gift.” The gift being the definitive Don’s Edition. God Rest Marlon Brando.

Spent stupid amounts of hours on this game when I was younger. Would love a remaster. The sequel was.. interesting..
Back in the days, I completed the game in one night, knowing fully well I was going to fail a physics test the day after 😅 no regrets
This was my intro to the greatest film and sequel of all time. It was so good it even got my lazy 7th grade self to read the book which adds crazy details and backstory to the characters ( Luca Brasi throwing his own son in an incinerator shows why he was Vito's most feared enforcer as he had absolutely no conscious/heart). To me this was better then GTA. The Godfather Part 2 is the greatest film of all time but it was absolute travesty the game they made for it. We don't speak about Part 3.
My dad bought this for me in 5th grade but I wasn't allowed to play GTA yet.

Played this back when i was in highschool on a PS2 fat and loved it me and may dad went to a mall and bought yakuza1, Scarface, the sopranos,Mafia and thegodfather broke my heart when I saw that it was releasing godfather 2 on ps3 witch I didn't have at the time lol but loved godfather one godfather 2 eh I'll let you be the judge of that

Reviewing this on wii is a bold move, well done mate. Anyway, as you've mentioned in the conclusion, gameplay loop makes this game very repetitive and boring in along run. It's hard to recommend, unless you'll be playing this in a short bursts, like an hour or so at a time. I do appreciate Visceral take on this, but did they succeed? nah, but it's a good call.

Recently homebrewed my psp, and godfather was one if the games i downloaded. Had it years ago when i my psp, as much as i like the game, jts frustrating to play using that tiny joystick. Hopefully gamestop has a copy for the 360.😊

Spent hours on the ps2 version then ordered the ps3 version about 2-3 years ago. Expensive but worth it IMO, the best version of the game.
