I'm Irish and proud, everytime I see and hear the haka I feel the connection to my kiwi brothers and the passion and pride they feel , I love the fact that it's not just a war dance like some people think , but a way of showing love and gratitude to there brothers sisters of those present and those who have passed on , much love from Ireland 🇮🇪
@LEE DK I think shes talking about river dance mate 😂😂man u should be so proud of heritage and people , I'm kinda jealous sometimes .....only sometimes 😁
Well Ireland has massive connections to nz because a lot of us born there have Irish roots because we are a British colony. Any colonial whether it be in nz, Aussie, SA or the UK feel the connection when they see haka. It connects us all because that is our heritage.
I had the pleasure and honour of being tattooed by Te Rangitu… as a Gàidheal (Scottish Gael), I feel a connection to the people of Aotearoa, from cultural similarities to the attempted extermination of our respective peoples, from the clans to the Iwi - we are one.
Churr my Bro!! Our Ancestors fought for our freedom therefore it's within our rights to protect our future culturally & teach our young ones so our Wairua(spirit) shall never be lost. 🙌🙏
im half Puerto Rican but i found out i have Polynesian blood other than Taino Arawak from my native american heritage seeing this made me feel proud to be of great Polynesia too.
We cannot breath without the air that surrounds us. We cannot walk without the land beneath us. All and everything around us is connected. We all belong to the universe. We all belong to this earth. We all belong to each other.
I'm a proud Moari man currently living in Australia. At 1:49 Master INIA says "We don't own the land, We belong to it". Sadly this is a perfect example of the difference between Australia and NZ. With regard to embracing indigenous culture NZ are so far ahead and as long as national sorry day exists, Aus will not move forward. Apologising for something (yes it was horrific and an atrocity) year in and year out will not encourage reconciliation. It creates a divide.
New Zealand has been on my bucket list for 20 years. I would love to visit and tour the country. Unfortunately, my finances will probably never support a trip to this beatiful corner of our world. My love for the geography and the culture is boundless. Aroha ahau ki a koe Aotearoa. MA TE ATUA E MANAKO I TO KOTAHU ME TOU KORIWHI!
As an Aboriginal I love the similarities within your culture and ours as we share alot of the same believes much respect to the brothers and sisters across the ditch
Completely agree with him when he said doesn't matter where your from you will feel something I get goosebumps every time I see a haka its deep rooted tradition that the rest of the world has lost
I come back to this video time and time again. I'm not Maori but Chamorru from Guåhån(Guam), and everytime I watch this vid, 3:19 is so powerful it always gets me. As a fellow child of the ocean, Bula guinaiya ginnen Guåhan. (Much love from Guåhan)
@Kevin O'Brien not really ,I’m not likely to ever think about it ,,,especially when the Simpson’s is on ,,😉 talk about a chip on your shoulder 👍. I guess every country that had a empire must feel terrible then. But most places with such history focus on the good ,,,like mine pretty much changed the planet we live on ,some good some bad but everything u take for granted was brutish made by British technology,,,,,,so u can do one really
I've just counted the number of various Haka videos that I have watched based on my watch history. It's ###. Holy moly! Thanks to Big Jim. If you're reading this... tena koe! Haere mai! 😅
This is beautiful, we have become so lost in modern society we’ve forgotten who we really are nothing but respect and honour for you guys from your cousins across the pond x
I saw this video months ago while quarantine in France. I instantly fell in love with your culture, it's amazing. I've searched this video for like 20 minutes and I was a little bit upset bc I didn't know if I could find it again.
Anyone have the Maori words to this haka? I know the English translation is in the subtitles, but I would love to have the Maori words to understand the grammatical layout of this haka in comparison to the English translation.
Because we are one.... rooted in the ground we stand on and we are here to respect and protect it as it gives us life.... WE ARE ONE . We are not to own but to guard and protect .... for future generations. Through the earth we walk apon she connects us all. Aroha mai my friend
Because your wairua or your spirit is acknowledging the truth in what you are observing. Leaders of the West had no idea that there was absolutely nothing they could do that would separate Maori from our language our culture our history and our ancestors because they had achieved to do so with so many other societies. Also Te Reo or the Maori language is as ancient as Hebrew so when it's spoken chanted or sung all of our ancestors hear it and pay attention. We are a spiritual people what you feel is spirit.
I think it's the fact that when you here the haka, it meant many people were going to die because it's a war chant, that's why people cry or get emotional when they witness it. I believe in reincarnation and past lives, so chants like this has been recorded deep in peoples DNA? But I might be wrong.
Can anyone help with maori translation I'm not finding the correct kupu words that would be so helpful if anyone can put them in the comments nga mihi me te arohanui
