Today, I weigh in on the much debated topic of perspective issues in Rainbow Six Siege. Together with Z1ronic, I spent quite an amount of time testing how perspective works in Siege, as well as in other games such as CS:GO and Insurgency Sandstorm and my main focus in this video will be highlighting some of our findings. I especially want to show off some actionable little tips that will hopefully help you be more conscious of your positioning and stances in Rainbow Six.

Correction: I have received a clarification from the devs that even after the Burnt Horizon patch, the camera still slightly shifts when leaning. It moves over to the eye on the side that you are leaning to, so the change is not as significant as we have been assuming all this time.

I have yet to hear one that sounds even close to how relaxing Rogue-9's voice is. Honestly if he was the voice for any safety video it would reassure everyone very quickly.

Yeah, it's just a visual TL;DR. Give your corners a wide berth like in the thumbnail. But if you must be close to a corner, lean!

In real life when in a gun fight it is taught to not suck up onto cover. Depending on the circumstances, the farther off cover you are the better cover you have due in part to slower exposure as you pie the angle and also the angle of bullets as they ricochet off cover.

Very! And I actually found out afterwards that the camera still shifts a little after the burnt horizon patch. It still goes over as far as the eye on the side you are leaning to. I didn't actually realise that!

I hate it when i’m holding an angle and all of a sudden a guy with 300 ping teleports around the corner and kills me .
I live in south africa so i always have above 150 ping. High ping causes you to die more than for you to get kills

The "peeker's advantage" that you're describing here hasn't really been in the game since op. Blood Orchid. In reality, players with high ping will usually find themselves losing shots they thought should've hit because the game rejects shots that conflict with the server at the time. It's a bit of a complicated system I can't explain myself in a youtube comment, but you should look into how it works. Overall, the player with the lower ping count has an advantage in almost all peeking situations.

9ping players are really harsh to go against for higher ping players in wja and eas
Pro tip: use smaller headgears (I know the hitbox doesn't change but with a smaller one its more difficult to see it behind cover)
Also, idle animations should be removed when ADSing and drastically reduced in general

Idle animations removed? Come on, I'd be surprised if one in 1000 of kills was because of those. They're one of the few things that make the operators feel more alive. Make them breathless and inanimate, and you might as well be playing a shooter with androids.

Well this happens in real life too, because my shoulders extend out further than my eye does so having the camera switch between eyes is probably the best we're going to get

Yeah, it's the reason when SWAT and other special tactics teams stay faaar away from corners of hallways and doorways and such, while watching that corner the whole time. "Slicing the pie," it's called. Just give everything a wide berth!

Can you look into the perspectives when fighting form an upside down rappel and against an upside down rappel? I I feel like you have an advantage when rappeling upside down

Long story short:
If anyone has ever done real life force on force firearms training with simunition or airsoft and has worked around walls and barricades would understand exactly how perspective works, and how distance from cover affects how much of you is exposed.
I love the detail of the left handed grip on the weapons, and how by swapping hands it minimizes exposure.
I think the leaning an perspective system post-update is fairly realistic and makes a lot of sense now.
I don't know people can say Rainbow Six's perspective system is realistic when the weapons in the game don't even matter, since the bullet come from the player's eyes.
@@goldfishprime I wish they did it like battlefield where the projectile comes from the muzzle of the gun. Would solve a lot of issues with head glitching in the game tbh

One thing that dirves me crazy in this game , more so being an ArmA player, is that bullets don't come out of your gun, they come out of your camera.

@@charless112 Oh so that a GAME has a semi- realistic view angle is a problem now? so you want a 3rd. person siege playmode too?? If you plant your friking face in the wall next to a corner your shoulder will show... I KNOW.. SHOCKING... and you only see the wall... only fault is that we can't have a high enough FOV as the human FOV is well above 180*
And I am sad to say that Siege has become more softcore over the years imo..

Position is one of my favourite features in any game. It's a game changer, really. There are so many advantages and disadvantages with camera positions, player models, maps and just Siege's leaning feature in total.
Playing the game while only thinking about perspective makes it an entirely different experience, almost a different game.

Can you test Jager's ADS. Its max range, if two ADS pellets can really be used for one grenade, and if there is a way for attackers to throw grenades behind cover so that it blocks the ADS from destroying the Grenade

I Think this whole perspective discussion shifted the attention to the wrong way. Everything is very helpful in here, but i dont think this has to do anything with the problem. Since they attempt to fix lean-spam (i used this as a point in TIME, i am not even sure that "fix" has anything to do with the real issue) the difference between what we see on the screen, and what the "server sees" is in a bigger de-sync.
At least once a day i have a kill-cam where i dont see a thing on my screen, but i get killed, and in the kill cam the enemy had a good second to spot-aim-shoot me. Sure this problem was always a problem in Siege, but not as often and not as visible as in these days. I dont know what is causing this, but something went wrong, and it is worse than it used to be.
Maybe net-code changes, maybe server changes (i would love to see a new server analysis in these days, i would not be surprised if they are not 60 tick as promised, just 50 tick, or even worse...), i am not sure.
The only thing i know, we never had this much de-sync since they introduced dedicated servers. Not even before Operation Health. Sure we had issue back then, but not this pronounced.
Everybody was talking about this as "Kill-Cam De-sync" months ago, and now we explaining it as a "perspective issue", and we missing the point of things getting worse. In my experience the "ghost" (the player model seen by the server/then after that by other players) is more separated from the client side view. And on the top of that since then i changed my internet provider, my ping is 4 times less, than used to be. The so called "peekers advantage" is not feel worse than it was before. But the sync is out of control. This is the problem, not the perspective or the difference between the 1st and 3rd person view. (we got used to that years ago, this is something new).
It is hurts me to see more and more problem with a game we all love so much.
I've actually had plenty of times where the game will teleport me a couple inches because the server says I'm in a different position than I was on my side. It happens at least once a match, luckily not in gun fights but there is definitely a problem with servers in some way. This is with less than 50 ping as well.
I'n Cafe there are multiple angles that are so tight you can't see the enemy behind. A good example is the third floor skylight. You can hold an angle from the roof that is so tight there is no visible gap for the person behind the counter
The only stance i need is Tachanka standing at his turret, all the enemies just run away in fear of the power i hold.
Played yesterday as Lord Tachanka with the pink rainbow is magic outfit. Got 3 kills in the round, 2 with my primary and the last with the turret, so satisfactory
The only time I chose tachanka willingly I got an ace with the shotgun

Idealy you would set 2 perspective cones, one at each eye, and then you merge them, getting rid of any blind spots.
I've been sick for three days, but hearing Rogue's voice cured me instantly
Many times when I look around when peeking a pixel angel and then look back (only mouse input without movement), the angel is no longer visible due to perspective changes. I have no idea whether it is caused by position changes when turning around, or perspective changes when turning. It is quite confusing. Could you plz test it out?

I thought you would go over rappelling upside down, there's a few OP angles right now, I don't know if it's natural perspective or bugged. There's also instances when rappelling normally that you can be seen almost entirely due to your back/butt standing way too far from the wall, but your head being closer, a common instance of this happening is in Coastline's bedroom big window, I've gotten killed on that one without seeing the enemy so many times when holding an angle.
my kill cams almost always reveal exactly what youre saying. I think im in cover but im really not at all, now I back away from corners and become more conscious about it. doesn't help my aim on controller but my deaths are less from silhouetting.
This takes me back to the matchmaking academy when WarOwl talked about perspective lol

Ok, we've known about this in csgo for a long ass time, its just that there we considered it a game-play element instead of "bad perspective" its always been advised in counter strike to jiggle peak far from cover.

Does this happen vertically? such as an attacker rappelling upside down from a window, because I was killed by a maverick who was able to see my whole body while I could only see the tip of his cap. Just wondering.

I've died to the "ants in pants" character movement before. I was tucked in a corner, dude only could see my shoulder swaying in n out cuz of that crap.
The other thing about fighting people above you is that, atleast in cases where they have a major height advantage, their arms will block a good portion of their head
Basically this video has taught me Get educated or get rekt. So many frightening deaths could've been prevented in R6 had I been more astute... well time to take advantage for once.

Well I’ve learned that in reality your suppose to be a bit farther from cover like a corner so you can see better and be in cover better. So I think it’s a good touch of realism

What about leaning while rappelling?
in a match i was just in, i was holding a really tight angle. i saw a very very very small sliver of someone's head, but i didnt shoot. i knew that if i did, i would probably miss or it wouldnt register. ya know... siege things. i was waiting till i could see a little more of the head before taking the shot, until i got shot in the head myself. i watched the kill cam, and oh boy was i pissed. almost my whole head was peeking out. from the upper lip upwards, eyes and helmet. while the most i saw of him, was a few pixels of his headgear.
Well this sorta makes sense because it works the same way irl. If I’m very close to the edge of a wall then part of my body is still exposed, especially if wearing military gear and a helmet.
