Another brilliant and very useful explanation and tutorial. I'm going to try one of these in the pop-up book I'm currently making. And by the way, I did try reinforcing my V-fold extenders to be quadruple thickness instead of just double. That helped the buckling quite a bit. Thanks for such valuable resources!
@@thepop-upchannel4919 I made the first one and it's very cool! Just curious, though. At 6:00, you show the slit and it seems quite a bit wider than the triple-strength 1cm strut. Is there any reason it can't just be wide enough to handle the width of the strut, like a fraction bigger than 1cm? My mockup doesn't seem to need any extra room, but I might be missing something.
You're right - I cut the slit a littler longer thsn necessary, just not paying attention! The important thing is to cut the ends of the slit back 1 or 2 mm. to allow the card to lift a little bit so that the strip can slide more easily.
I always wanted to replicate the wonder woman diorama from Reinhart's DC themed book. Seems like it requires alot of small adjustments, to make the mechanism work because every part interacts with eachother, so it might get too floppy or rip apart. Especially the leg that opens outside the page. This turorial might make it bit easier to cope, since i don't own the book itself.
I've had a look at the Wonder Woman pop-up. The underlying mechanism that the whole thing is built on is based on a slightly modified Twisting Mechanism (Tutorial 17). This is then added to, mostly using Parallelograms (Tutorial 5). The leg that extends beyond the edge of the page uses one of these Strut Mechanisms (Tutorial 65). If you're working quite big you'll need to use stiffer, or heavier, card to avoid the design becoming floppy. When making a complicated pop-up like this you will always need to make experimental versions so that you can see where you might need to make adjustments.
@@thepop-upchannel4919thank you for the tips, i appereciate, and trust me, i have binge watched almost every video you have. i have few protos made from the ww mechanism, featuring a version of lara croft from the tomb raider game. I haven't yet mastered the small scale version of the mechanism that extends the leg itself. The fact that i do not own the book myself, makes it bit hard to work when not having the mechanism available :)
@@sampokemppainen3041 Maybe if you try making the different versions of the extension shown in tutorial 65 you'll be able to work out how the leg extension in the model works.

I did end up using a couple of these mechanisms in my homemade Winnie the Pooh pop-up book I just made. These start around 11:30 in my YT video (czcams.com/video/d4PXyDVoCc0/video.html), but you might be interested in the whole book. The last spread uses the v-fold extender we discussed (with stronger struts), but my videography didn't do it justice. I mentioned your books and channel in the description as well as my long-winded "tour".
I watched your whole vid - looks delightful - sorry not to answer sooner, been pretty tied up with things. I did wonder if making the angles on the V-Fold pieces just a little smaller would make them lean back slightly and would help to then pull the attached Parallelograms up a little more.
