    Having removed a steel Rock n Roll bed from a camper I completely appreciate your efforts in aluminium, it was ridiculously heavy, as were the cushions and boards behind them, this is an area where you can save SO much weight! Well done, keep sharing.

      Thanks! Excess weight was something we wanted to avoid like the plague, we're so glad we discovered 8020!

      Yes, if you see my later videos you'll see the one I built for storage and the roof top tent. It works very well for that.

    Folding a tarp or tent. Don’t do it, stuff it. When you fold you often fold in the same pace time after time, The urethane coating on the fold wears out and you have a leak. By stuffing you avoid this problem. Your videos are excellent and I’ll follow your model for a rock and roll bed. Thanks

    • @GotMountains
      @GotMountains  Před 3 lety

      That's good advice, I never thought about that. I'll have to start stuffing it from now on! Thanks for the love!

    Hi there. I noticed that You don't use any support on your bed , where the hinges are. I get that on the seating mode it does not play a role. But if you fold it to bed mode, how are the hinges holding? I see you have used four pieces of hinges on each side. Is that enough? For example crawling into bed from side door, ideally you want to place your knee just about, where those hinges are. Applying this pressure, ever been a issue? Otherwise great idea on the ergonomic chair. Would like to use similar solution.

    • @GotMountains
      @GotMountains  Před 2 lety

      Good question. The hinges are very strong, so the span it carries is not too bad. I do always out my knee where you mention and have never had an issue. The other side has contact with the frame making the cantilever about 4". If you were to go much further then the hinges might not be sufficient.

      @@GotMountainsThanks for reply. In another video, where You tore bed out, I noticed that u have used support legs under the hinges. Although bed level is slightly higher than seating level, allowing that comfortable seating angle. How does that work? Where would that support be when it is on the seating mode, because it would be too long too fit under there? I probably missing something?

      @@gertseegel749 Good eye...those are on the seat back section (I sold that van 6 months ago so going from memory), but those tucked pointing straight back on either side of the battery so they didn't affect how the seat rested. My new bed is totally different to avoid all that, but for that bed it actually worked quite well.

    • @GotMountains
      @GotMountains  Před 2 lety

      The material itself is surprisingly affordable, but the fittings and hardware are where they get you. In materials, the bed was around $500 excluding the upholstery

    Hi, Great build and series! Do you have any videos(or can recommend any) for creating the floor in the mini-van? I recently bought a 2008 Toyota SIenna AWD to start converting it into a mini-van-camper

    • @GotMountains
      @GotMountains  Před 4 lety +1

      The floor will depend on what's underneath yours. We stripped hours down to the metal but newer Vans have a lot more junk that gets in the way. It might almost be best just to lay quarter-inch plywood on your existing floor and build from there.

    Why did you tap and drill to connect the ends in part 2 and not just use another corner bracket?

    • @GotMountains
      @GotMountains  Před 4 lety +2

      The corner bracket is a bit stronger but with motion can loosen over time. Drilling and tapping make the connection bombproof.

    Hi!! Your bed inspired us to do something similar in our van! The issue were having is we made one single unit as opposed to the two that you made, and we’re having a hard time lifting it into the couch position because it’s so heavy. any ideas as to how to improve the leverage so it’s easier to lift up with all the weight? Thanks so much!

    • @GotMountains
      @GotMountains  Před 2 lety

      Hmm, I'm not sure... This one is super light, so I'm not sure I can imagine how yours could be heavy. What is it made from?

    • @GotMountains
      @GotMountains  Před 4 lety

      That's tough to answer...the bed is about $1200USD but the rest is about $400 in materials and 15-20 hours of labour.

    • @GotMountains

    • @GotMountains
      @GotMountains  Před 3 lety

      @@byn1975 Yep, the smallest one. In hindsight, I think it would have been more than strong enough for my needs. Also, I prefer metric...haha. The math is easier!

    • @GotMountains
      @GotMountains  Před 3 lety

      @@byn1975 Oh, the 15 Series is also Imperial. It is 1.5" x 1.5" and VERY heavy. It is almost 3 times the weight per foot, but is much stronger. I used some to build a hitch swing arm for the back of the van. I think overkill for most applications unless lots of weight is being handled by it.
