Thanks for this post, Archibald is rather under-appreciated now. He was successful at Aberdeen, Spurs, and Barcelona, nearly winning the European Cup with Barce in 1986. I saw him play a few times live for Aberdeen, he immediately stood out as fast, brave, a clinical and clean finisher, and remarkably good in the air despite not being tall. He reminded me of Denis Law with his coolness in front of goal, and, as with Denis, he was, shall we say, able to look after himself. Critics might look at these goals and say a lot were tap-ins, but Archibald got so many like this because his anticipation and speed got him to the ball before anyone else. And lets not forget he appeared twice in the same edition of Top of the Pops!
@Cliff Hanley Archibald appeared twice in the same episode of Top of the Pops in 1982, firstly singing "We Have a Dream" with the Scotland World Cup squad starring B. A. Robertson and then alongside his Tottenham Hotspur teammates and Chas & Dave singing "Tottenham, Tottenham".
I firmly believe that if Barcelona had kept Maradona and paired him with Archibald the club could ve won the 1986 European Cup final against Steaua Bucharest. Later Lineker came and the club also could ve won things between 87 and 89 with Lineker and Maradona as a duo
