  • Stripping Lots of fry From Nimbochromis venustus Females. In this video I show you one of or if not the easiest and safest way of stripping fry from mouth brooding fish. I have used this technique to strip hundreds of thousands of fry from hundreds of different species. I've stripped haps, huge predator haps, peacocks, Victorians, mbuna, even tropheus and cyprichromis using this exact technique. Works the same way for all of them.

    You are a professional. I tried doing it your way but was unsuccessful. I had to use a small clip to pry open her mouth. It was my first time at stripping so maybe next time I may have some success using your squeeze method

    It's amazing how many fry can be help by a female Cichlid. I have just gotten into breeding Cichlids (German Red Peacocks) about two years ago. My first time that I stripped the Cichlid, I got 39 fry out of her. I didn't attempt to strip any more females due to lack of room in my aquarium. About a month ago, I stripped a female, and all the fry were dead, about 20 of them. Bummer. Don't know how that happened. I just stripped another female as of this post, and it appear that I have a healthy batch of about 20 or more. I guess that I will never have to worry about purchasing German Red Cichlids again!

    You make it look easy. Takes some time to get the hang of it for sure. I see so many videos on this using twist ties paper clips etc. And I've been told by many reputable breeders it's a dangerous way and could hurt the female if being even careful

    • @ronscichlids
      @ronscichlids  Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah I shake my head when I see people using the paper clips. I've yet to find a better way of stripping fry than how I do it in the video. Never have injured a female using this method as well.

    Nice vid, but my fry's keep dying, i pick a few everyday. I did have a nitrite issue a few days ago but it's solved now. Took bio media from one of my other tanks. I keep temperature at 26c, feed 3-4 times a day and water change every 2 day. Lost all my maingano frys now, picked the last to today. :( Golden didn't loose anyone and allt of aulonocara also die. And i can't figure out why. Could be delayed health issues due to nitrite tho. It's my only explanation.

    What egg tumbler do you recommend if you accidentally strip a fish too early?

    • @ronscichlids
      @ronscichlids  Před 2 lety +1

      Do a good search for Ziss, they make good egg tumblers, I have a few just in case.

    What ago do they breed??

  • @afterfiveentertainment8042

    Great video, you’re a pro!!! If I strip at 14 days, the fry still has egg sack and can’t swim upright just yet. Do I just leave them alone and start feeding when the egg sack is almost gone?

    • @ronscichlids
      @ronscichlids  Před 2 lety +1

      They should be basically fully developed at 14 days. If they still have a big egg sack then put them in a tumbler. If they only have a small egg sack left then put them in a tank or hangon by themselves. Do not feed them until the egg sack is completely absorbed.

    how do you keep track of whos holding and whos been holding for a few weeks in the IBC totes with the top down view? Very nice video man, wish I had your knowledge

    • @ronscichlids
      @ronscichlids  Před 2 lety +1

      When I feed, I look for females that aren't coming up to eat and stay towards the bottom. This means there holding. The way I keep track of how long a females been holding is by writing down the date. For example, you may have noticed I checked a female In the video that had eggs. I wrote on the tank the date and now I know to go back in and strip her in 2 weeks.

    • @ronscichlids

      By the fullness of their mouth. Also fully developed fry will generally make the bottom part of mother's mouth appear dark..
