And then there's stuff in the actual games like Ichiban Holdings which you spend many hours playing through and then it's not even canon within the same game

All these characters saying Omedetou (congratulations) The subtitles : Congrats indeed! Hear Hear! Ya did it! That was epic! (which of course, never said anything but Congratulations in the original Eva reference too) Once again, localizers proving they don't deserve their job.
This are the same localizers as the ones who renamed Daigo summon from "Guns of the Patriarchs" to "Guns of the Forefathers" to avoid a Metal Gear reference. The reason being that the summon is such an important piece of Yakuza/Like a Dragon history that they couldn't mess it up with a reference to another series. So yeah, no, these localizers deserve their job.
Perhaps the dumbest comment I've read in regards to localization. So cringey when kids who have never studied another language in their life try to have opinions about this stuff.
How often does NGE get referenced compared to other media with iconic/memorable scenes? Just curious because I don't see NGE pop up in other things usually.
I wouldn't say it's overrated per say. Like people don't talk about it as being particularly great. In fact, these days you're more likely to see people saying the opposite and that it's actually kind of middling. However, it came out at a time that most westerners just getting into anime were likely only familiar with shonen style anime and whatever else was being broadcast on Toonami. So to go from watching Dragonball and Sailor Moon, to Evangelion is quite a large leap and a bit of culture shock. And that is why it became so ingrained into anime pop culture.
It might be overrated, and in some parts even downright bad, but it was at the time highly influential and was trendy. Similar to how death note was, and honestly a lot of popular anime. If you watch death note for example now that the hype is gone, it's just straight up goofy. Like Eva it is very easy to parody. I think you should just enjoy media regardless of it being overrated or not. After all it is better to just move on to things you actually truly like instead of telling others how their favourite things are not as good as they think they are.
Welcome to another episode of: "i am a yakuza fan AND i even dont know when i am looking something canon or a mod"
It's a side quest the big snake mall in Hawaii about a game show for a producer
Just finished it like 10 minuets ago actually

The one that killed me was the one substory with the Weaboo, when they said that they went to parties while he was studying the blade 😭

I didn't realize this was an Evangelion reference because they weren't in the sky. I have failed as both a Yakuza and Evangelion fan
Its been so long since ive watched eva so it slipped my mind. Thanks for sharing because this somehow felt like ive seen it before.
I like that the english sub had to change the dialogue otherwise dubbers would be confused as fuck and think the game is bugged
Congratulations
Congratulations!
It's wacky side quests like this that still still make Yakuza/like a dragon series the greatest of all time lol! 🤣👌🔥
Ichiban fr thinks Shinji is literally him fr
Ichibun is a type of guy, who would watch Evangelion because there are cool giant robots.
