This is going to be so helpful for me. I have waited for years to try a cruise and I really want to go so I booked my first ever cruise to Alaska on the inside passage. The fear of being sick as well as the overwhelming fear of feeling so isolated and away from civilization/land has always kept me from trying before. Now I am going to conquer these fears and I put a deposit down on a cruise so I am trying to get all the advice I can now on how to handle motion sickness and get my sea legs. I get sick on the Ferris wheel and have visual issues, so I chose a cruise from Vancouver instead of Seattle. I am still nervous thinking about it, but learning what I can do to prevent or alleviate it. You are the only ones I have seen that mentioned the Motion Eaze. I am probably going to ask my doctor for the scopolamine patch but knowing me, I will buy and bring all the things just in case. Thanks guys!

I started getting seasick on my first cruise and being a novice had no medications with me, but did have some advice I heard form another cruiser get to the top of the ship and get to a point you can see the horizon. I also tried to stay in areas where I could see the ships movement and that work to get the nausea under control.

You guys are great. I am going on my first cruise in April, NCL Getaway. I have been watching everything I can find, you guys are very informative and fun to watch. Im so nervous I will get sea sick!! That would be awful. I have the prescriptions, dramamine, both non drowsy and then the normal dramamine. So I should be OK but still a little worrisome because Ill be stuck on the ship. Lots of great tips for relief if needed. Thanks

We got caught in the tail end on Hurricane Matthew in Canada New England cruise. We were still on the St Laurence river. Used bands and pills. Ate up carbs. Huge waves. Friends staying in a room with a port hole and the water was going over their window. Found a dead bird on our balcony so sad. Due to the high winds.

I have used the patch it works well but one con it tends to come off in the shower before the 3 day time I always bring liquid Benadryl because it can be used for motion sickness same active ingredients as dramamine and allergies

So I had never had motion sickness being a flight attendant for several years but on our second to last cruise I did experience motion sickness, so for our last cruise I got the patch from my doctor. BTW insurance does not typically pay for this and it is quite expensive but didn't want to be sick again. The patch was amazing and lasted for 3 days but the last day the seas were really rough coming into NY City so I took off the patch that I had been wearing for 2 days and put on a new one because I thought it would work better. Don't do that. I now had double the medication in my system and was extremely dehydrated to the point of thinking I may need to go the doctor when we docked in NY. I was continually drinking water and finally it subsided but pretty miserable so be aware this is a powerful medication!!

I have been cruising since 1991 and have found out the hard way I will get sea sick on the calmest of seas. As soon as that slow rocking starts my skin turns from brown to green. I start medicating before I get on the ship. Last year I discovered Dramamine with Natural
Ginger. This version of the medication is less expensive and works just as well. I like it because I do not have the drugged drowsy feeling that occurs with regular Dramamine. I also think the ginger version of Dramamine helps my digestion. All that cruise food can play havoc on my innards. One caution I will offer is I have found if we are in rough seas consistently for more than a couple of days (the hazards of cruising in January) I need to switch back to regular Dramamine to feel completely well throughout the rough seas.

We're going on our first cruise the end of next month and I bought the Sea Bands and some Bonine from Amazon. I don't even know if I'll need it but I'll probably put the bands on the night before as well as taking the Bonine. Better safe than sorry.
Loved the outtakes! You guys are adorable!

First of all - LOVE the outtakes! You guys are hilarious by yourselves, and absolutely ADORABLE together!! Thank you SO much for the laughs!!
I was gong to use the non-drowsy Dramamine (starting 2 days before, continuing 2 days after) that I did on my last cruise 8 years ago, but thinking I might ask my Dr. for the patch....hmmm.....I also might bring some Motion-Ease too, just in case, thank you for that tip. I figure the less "invasive" the better, so I like the patch, and a topical idea. I brought some ginger chips the last time, tried them, didn't care for them - they tasted "hot" to me, and were fibrous. No thank you. :)
Thank you both for who you are, and what do you - hugs!!

Back in 1985 I wore the Scopolamine patch on my first cruise. I was in a bar one day chatting with a ship's medical officer and he asked me if I wore contacts. I said yes, why. He replied, well I see your patch, and you have one eye dilated and one eye not. So now I know you don't have brain damage.(how's that for a pick up line--LOL?). Apparently, I had touched my patch and then did something with my contact lens, which transferred the "scope" to my lens. No ill effects, just an odd look.

I've used Dramamine and the patch and so far no issues from being sea sick. I usually get the preventive measures in my system before I get on the ship so I hopefully won't have any problems with being sick while I'm on vacation.

Keep something in your stomach. Candied ginger or mint calms the stomach. Go outside in the fresh air and watch the horizon from the side of the ship. Relax and enjoy!

I get seriously seasick and have tried almost all of these. The pressure bands are a joke, Motion ease is good nothing beats the patch. I have been cruised around hurricane seas once and I felt great. Ginger has also scientific evidence that it works but I haven’t tried it. Love my patches!
