Humility is not thinking less of oneself. Humility is thinking of oneself less.

Rather, humility is knowing one's place and acting accordingly. See Bergamo's great book entitled Humility of Heart.

It is more you are more occupied with the thoughts of God than your own thoughts...you stop taking pride in your own thoughts trying to use them to bolster their internal sense of pride!

How can Sensus Fidelium juxtapose Humility (cf. Litanies of Loretto; St. Joseph) and Meekness
(Life and manner of Christ; Litany of the Sacred Heart) with timidity ( the Holy Spirit is NOT a
    spirit of timidity/ St.Paul )?! Likewise boldness ( St.Mary Magdalene; St.Paul; Ste.Thérèse's closing
lines in Story of A Soul) with arrogance (Satan and all proud rebels)?!

That meekness and humility go hand in hand seems evidenced by the very fact that God is fully human and fully divine. Thus, we should stand before, view, any man as if he is God since we can't know for sure that he isn't. I.e. we should treat every person with the same exact respect (love) that we give to God. The difference is our adoration of God, which is due only to him as creator of all-Lord of hosts.
Of course, meekness is likely the hardest to practice, but humility is both our way and salvation from our otherwise hopeless state of imperfection, failure, weakness.
    Someone please correct my error.

Arrogance = *without asking* (taking>stealing> arrogating)
Etymology is a fine tool for Clarity.
Eric Partridge is the Thomas Aquinas of Etymology.

  • @reniaesaddler8632
    @reniaesaddler8632 Před 7 lety +5

Pride and arrogance are also two sides of the same coin. E.g. I cannot be proud that I am catholic since I did not do it; I did not make myself Catholic. The Lord first made Catholicism and then led me to it. Can one baptized unto our faith as a baby have any more pride in what he is?
Even to be proud that I followed is a mistake because what could I do but listen when called? This was not a choice. Anyone who has heard the call knows this. To follow was simply what needed to be done to get to my heart's desire-God. All the follows has been the same. Pride is a shoe that never fit.
Arrogance, from my observation, is simply compensation for pride; it's what pride buys a person. Arrogance, then, is a wealth that consumes the person, and a very difficult wealth to let go of.
I wonder if gratitude is the opposite of arrogance? With what, then, can is it purchased?

Renia E Saddler , when the Priest referred to ‘pride in being Catholic’ or ‘being proud of one’s child’, I think that emotion is closer to GRATITUDE and ENTHUSIASM.

Remember This At Your Judgement and ALL You Do in Life : " Those who Exalt Themselves, Shall Be Humbled and Those who Humble Themselves, Shall be Exalted " - Jesus Christ- GOD.
I believe it was C.S Lewis Who Said " Humility isn't thinking less of yourself. It's thinking of yourself less " ..... Bottomline, Your life has Nothing to do with You, It's about Doing Well for Everyone Else. Amen Amen !!!!!

Humility according to the spiritual writers: have a low opinion of youself and God will rush to fill the void, and you will become a saint overnight.
The reality: you have a low opinion of yourself and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Far from becoming holy, you become less able to get along with others, less able to do work, and in general you become weker and stupider. Any kind of leadership role becomes totally out of the question.
