Fodlan'a lucky that it's just Byleth. I never played the Tellius games but I feel like not even Byleth would last against Ike
@@Lexicon865 that fight mostly depends on how much Byleth can canonically use Divine pulse tbh 😂
@@dreadnaught1445 I'd like to imagine that as Byleth *attempts* to do Divine Pulse, Ike just Great Aethers them out of nowhere akin to what he did to the Ancient Minister in Brawl's Subspace Emissary
Byleth was nerfed though!
@@Cleruian I doubt that Byleth was nerfed in the complete sense as an enemy. Gameplay-wise, you'd have to be several levels and stats in magnitude higher to damage them in triple or quadruple digits outside of story event battles not named the final battle against them. In the same sense, they're scripted to do such enormous damage to non-Heavy units that they can still reasonably weaken or defeat overleveled units. Story-wise, the only character that has fought Byleth on even ground without assistance before having to pull out for plot reasons without dying is Count Bergliez. In the game and story as an ally/playable, they're not as powerful overall offensively as Shez but the use of Divine Pulses can be used to slay bases or get out of a pinch. Despite Shez being referred to as one of the strongest fighters if not the strongest non-Lord member in their faction/nation, they still confirm to Byleth that they're nowhere near close to Byleth's skill and strength yet in their A-Support even though Byleth states that they're getting closer to being equals.
By not showing reliance on the Crest of Flames and further lacking the Sword of the Creator in the game's story, Byleth shows just how deadly they are when it comes to being a seasoned mercenary veteran in terms of sheer skill and strength. Rodrigue specifically lampshades in his A-Support with Shez that had the Kingdom tactics failed, the Kingdom would have suffered from what amounts to as a blood bath. This is proven if you failed to recruit Jeralt and Byleth in AG, where not only Rodrigue dies but the Kingdom suffers some gruesome losses just to survive narrowly.
Byleth got sick of all the hate from the Smash Community and decided to show us EXACTLY why they got into the game.
And what we got was byleth being a punching bag
@@mihaimercenarul7467 Do punching bags instill fear into armies and drive them away by simply EXISTING on the battlefield? No, no they do not.
and yet they do. Next question@@optimaltt6070
There's a reason the death bell is the sound of Byleth appearing.
"Stand down, or die" indeed. One single line was all it took to show that our beloved professor was not always so kind.
We…already knew that though. The Ashen Demon was never a secret in Three Houses. Teaching just mellowed the Demon out though I’m sure Byleth being unvoiced there also didn’t help.
POV: You're a bandit at Magdred Way and Byleth wants to max out his class experience:
Just love how this game indirectly explains why Byleth was chosen as a Teacher rather than a student (aside from another spoiler reason) and why everyone fears Byleth.
In three houses we only pretty much saw Byleth under our control but yet the fate of fodlan is decided by what side Byleth chooses. We finally get to see how Byleth's life was a merc instead of just hearing it on conversations.
Three Hopes has so many good little nuggets that explain so many things from Three Houses, even stuff that didn't need explaining. Like there's a line of dialogue that even directly explains why Dorothea and Manuela specifically have an affinity to swords.
It also really helps flesh out Byleth even more and only served to further attach me to the character (which I didn't even think I needed haha). And yeah it really furthers a lot of the themes and major plot points of Three Houses while telling a totally different what if story and I really appreciate that about Three Hopes.
@@tylerdrummond4078 I played scarlet blaze and I like how much more depth it gives to characters like Hubert. He’s such a big softie in 3 Hopes that it’s a little off-putting lol. Otherwise, I also like that it shows the lords going a little more into politics. In 3 Houses, they were either students or generals. Here, you see them discussing alliances, making pacts, betraying pacts, etc.
Three Hopes added so many details that wasn’t necessary but they went above and beyond anyways
It's just weird to not hear everyone call Byleth "Professor" or "Teach" in Claude's case
Yep, it's always either "the Ashen Demon" or "the Kid" which I think makes the latter funny

Byleth/the rest of Jeralt's Mercenaries: *Hello there*

@@monsoon1303 I was trained in your Mercenary arts, by Captain Jeralt!
"Ah General Byleth."
me: can we...um talk about this?
Makes me realize how scary Byleth actually is from the perspective of a different protagonist.
Hearing this drop as your allies, even the other lords, begin panicking over Byleth's appearance really drives home how scary we were as them in Three Houses.
The writers did a magnificent job of making sure they didn’t feel nerfed or eclipsed by Shez for the sake of the narrative. Especially considering this is their first attempt at it.
Lol, Byleth is some rando in this game, that’s all complete crap.
In all fairness, Byleth got pretty shafted and pushed aside from a narrative perspective, but it is true that they feel way stronger than Shez on a power scale and fighting prowess. It rarely feels like Shez can actually surpass them, and the only two times it happens in each route is due to some special circumstances: When Sothis takes over their body completely if you fail to recruit them (since Sothis, as powerful as she is, does not have the fighting experience Byleth has), and when Arval takes over Shez to take them down if you actually recruit them (since here Byleth was holding back while Arval was going for the kill).
Well
eclipsed? byleth stomped on shez like a cockroach lol
They should make a dlc of Byleth with the sword of the creator. It will be a much a harder fight and be worth the money. And for the rest idk.
I recently noticed something: Byleth can manipulate time, where Shez can manipulate space, being the Palkia to the Demon's Dialga.

"Byleth has broken out of the Stronghold and moving to prevent your escape"
From Golden Wildfire, it isn't the exact line but it was so scary
On top of being terrified out of your skull that Byleth is pursuing you and Claude through the caverns, if you want any chance of recruiting him/her after this mission then you have to make sure Claude makes it back to homebase before Byleth catches him. So the scariness of the encroaching mercenary is matched only by the dread of knowing what happens if you fail this objective...
@@readerofstainedhearts0593 I actually ended up killing Byleth in my first run because I got distracted by the side mission and couldn't capture the strongholds, so I was referring to the count bergliz fight lmao
@@oofboi114 Oh, haha! Whoops! True, with the general chaos of that battle Byleth having escaped put the fear in me too. I actually lost to Count Bergliez on my first because I was careless with Holst, so the second time around when I beat him you can only imagine my dread at seeing the message _"Byleth has broken out of the Stronghold"_ and having to contain her. Hard mode made her difficult enough, but I can only imagine how bad it'll become if I play on Maddening.
Playing golden wildfire second on maddening is rough because it's a level 112 count bergliez versus A less than level 50 probably Holst, meaning you have to heal Holst or he dies to Count Bergliez
It would have been scary for me, but I had eight people on the map, so Byleth kinda got jumped.
Remember, everyone in Fodlan feared the Ashen Demon BEFORE they merged with Sothis.
The fact the death bell is what signifies Byleth's arrival on the battlefield (rather than the normal sound effect that signify bosses) really sells things that this isn't just another boss you can spam your combos on and win, this is a threat, a genuine threat and if you aren't careful, you will be eliminated
What Smash players heard when Mkleo was maining him in that one tournament
The opening of this theme is perfectly terrifying.
The parts where the broken versions of Three Houses' theme plays sums up both Byleth being "incomplete" as a character and the false hope you feel, and then it cuts back into the terrifying part, which could be like the hope that you actually stand a chance is being snatched away as you feel a sharp pain in your abdomen and you look down to see a sword, piercing through your stomach and you look up to see the blank stare of a being almost completely devoid of emotion.
That is a Well Done comment right there Kudos my friend.

Game songs that
a) have a 7/4 time signature anywhere
b) CHANGE time signature multiple times
Are very uncommon. This was awesome.
I was wondering whether I'd see a comment about that! That definitely threw me off too, I caught myself trying to understand the time signature while listening to it and went like "hang oooon a minute"
It even sounds like the beginning part is _meant_ to be off-putting -
You start with 3 bars of 7/4, then poof, one bar of 8/4 (that even goes by 3/8, 3/8, 3/8, 3/8, 4/8, the strong beats are also not matching the beat)
Then same thing again
And then leading into the next part of the song... surprise, 4 bars of 7/4 instead?
Afterwards the next part is entirely in 8/4 (sounds like that rather than 4/4, right?), until it switches to 3/4 because FE3Hopes does that a lot (though that one's not a waltz).
The 3/4 then changes to another 7/4 part, except that the switch to 7/4 happens on the transition bar before the next part, which is also unexpected, and this segment of 7/4 bars isn't interrupted by 8/4s like the beginning was.
And then it loops, but woah. That song is a headache and it's fitting hahaha
@@Naerlynthe one thing I wish they’d done is a modulation somewhere. It just spices it up, you know? Like maybe they could just have a little section where it goes to a different key for just a few measures, then comes back. That would have been awesome.
I honestly loved Byleth's recruitment in Scarlet Blaze. He blitzes through multiple strongholds while you try and finish the level boss, all while the rest of the Black Eagles are panicking about how nothing is stopping him and you're running out of time, NOW. On Maddening it's such a mad rush that I only made (fittingly) because I sent the Death Knight to hold him off.
I wish Hopes had done more with Byleth, but no one can deny that they didn't have Shez overshadow them. Gameplay and story wise, they're treated like a serious threat.

My ingrid literally almost died to her but seeing Miklan show up and save my ass actually was the reason why I couldn't focus on her.

This game just makes Byleth so terrifying. Every time I heard this ost start playing in a battle, I got a chill.
Every time byleth shows up, I defeat him before he finishes his dialogue bar. Too bad he îs like death knight în three houses. Shows up often but loses all The time
And now i understand why everyone fucking feared Byleth as an enemy in Three houses. We actually get to be.curbstomped by them here....
I love how 0:28 and 0:40 trick you into thinking it's going to be yet another instance of The Edge of Dawn, but then it gets twisted into something else, with 0:40 in particular making the motif terrifying.
I want to remind everyone that this Byleth doesn’t have the Sword of the Creator. Meaning they aren’t even at their FULL power.
Just let that sink in for a moment.
They nerfed byleth in this game and we still get our ass handed multiple times. Byleth is a menace.
Also they didn't even (SPOILERS AHEAD) fuse with Sothis this time around. It was Byleth's choice for her to take control to use her full strength when Shez comes back to finish them off.
If they did have that sword and their movesets makes use of the whip, it will be like fighting against Lu Bu in the older DW titles. Outragious speed and range, and will hurt a lot
All Byleth did was stop time also, and never rewound time.
Idk I'd say this Byleth is at full power. Like 3 Houses Byleth may have had a way stronger sword but they also weren't as cold, which I honestly feel was a reason for Byleth to somewhat hold back, unlike here where for the most part she was just doing her job and she's still bad with emotions so she'd just not give a fuck

Everyone is talking about how powerful Byleth is and of course I agree. But you remember what Byleth says if they train with Jeralt? THEY HAVE NEVER BEATEN JERALT. How terrifying is the Blade Breaker at full power?
Keep in mind, this is the man with 300 years of combat experience both as a mercenary, and a knight of seiros. Plus he has Rhea's nabatean blood boosting his abilities further with the major crest of seiros. Literally the only reason he ever dies is because he got shanked from behind by an assassin with a poisoned Dagger in the original game with no chance to defend himself, and literally goes up against the protagonist empowered by the fucking Antichrist in three hopes.
Put simply, in any other game, Jeralt would be the protagonist at the end of his journey, fully kitted out with max level gear and ready to kick the final boss's ass. It takes a literal deus ex machina to kill him off in both games.
Edit: thinking on it, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he got his title due to literally snapping blades in half from the sheer force of his blows. Major crests basically make their bearers superhuman after all. Just look at Dimitri's freakish strength and Edelgard swinging around axes as big as she is like they're made of tissue paper.

As far as crest bearers go, yeah, he's definetly up near the top with Dimitri, Edelgard, and Rhea, but he's not quite strong enough to be comparable to the superhuman demi-gods of war that are Jeralt and Byleth.

This is how you write boss music. The opening just instills that unsettling feeling of hopelessness as you step towards a foe that's known nothing but battle, and has had years to hone their skills under an at the time unparalleled teacher
Fits Byleth so easily.
Going by skill and strength, they've been mercenaries longer than Shez meaning the former has a lot more combat experience and knowledge in-battle. Byleth in-story was never defeated by Shez and their allies using brute force for the most part, the Ashen Demon was bested by using wits first and only later, using brute force in one particular encounter per route after Byleth was worn down first excluding the missions where you either try to recruit them or have to kill them. Shez was able to route all three Houses and members by accident and for the most part with little issues, Byleth would have done so even quicker.
Given how the Divine Pulse works in Three Hopes unlike in Three Houses, Byleth is by all reasons justified for being feared AFTER they learn how to master it. Before unlocking it, Byleth was just inhumanely powerful to where in Scarlet Blaze, it required Count Bergliez, the Empire's strongest and most well renown General to just make Byleth physically exhausted to where they could be defeated. After unlocking it, its power is shown to freeze time temporarily from a gameplay perspective while in cutscenes and in Three Houses, it was only seen to reverse time. One has to imagine Byleth activating Divine Pulses to freeze time in order to 'casually' defeat the opposing forces using extreme skill and strength then ending the Divine Pulse(s) to make it look like nothing out of the ordinary happened.
It required (MK) Raiden to stop Koichi.

Hearing this was so scary when Byleth finally came out, and took over a base in like 40 seconds, and proceeded to take another base almost as fast 😭 I had to do the all out offense command on Byleth
**encounters Byleth**
Me: Nope
**turns off switch**
Who knew Byleth would have such an awesome theme in Three Hopes!
It was fun playing as Byleth in three houses and yet he's so scary in this game.
Not really
Guess all the hatred of Smash fans built up inside Byleth...and now she's unleashing it at anyone who comes her way. Lol
"Don't try to challenge the ashen demon!"
My level 51 war master balthus: Aight bet
No.....You fool....
"DEATH IS COMIN'!"
*HERE IS SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN.*
Soundtrack hasn't Instilled terror in me like this since the guardian theme in botw
MKLeo at the Ludwig Smash Invitational:
Okay so I get why it wasn't but it's actually a crime a motif from this wasn't included in Engage's Trial of the Academy. To me this _is_ Byleth's theme, without a doubt.
That’s bc three houses byleth is male that’s why he’s called the trial of the academy three hopes byleth is female and that’s why she’s called the ashen demon and never is teacher/professor in this timeline
This song also fits fighting a level 50 Byleth amiibo.
Actually, if they do come back in a future Smash, they could make this theme play when you have to unlock them.
Let's see if u predicted it.
Smash Ultimate not having any references to FEW or HW makes me doubtful but god I hope this happens.
This is absolutely the song I most associate with Byleth and I can't imagine anything better working for the next Smash
*after killing Jeralt*
Byleth: YOU PICKED THE WRONG ENDING, FOOL!
POV: Your opponent is MKLeo.
God 1:10 really has the impression of "This isn't your fight, it's _his_ " to it.
This game put Byleth in my top 3 FE protagonists. Heck, if anything she might be number 1.
Hate me all you want :)
Not hating. Byleth has been my number one for a long time now.
Why would I hate you when you’re clearly right?
*He
I just really wish Byleth was fully voice acted from the start. They are way more compelling in Three Hopes because of it.
@@pearsemolloy9656 As a Byleth fan, I wholeheartedly agree. I feel like being a silent protagonist held them back. They have a personality, they always have, but being silent didn’t allow it to show.
Me: Capturing as many strongholds as possible
Byleth appears
Me: OH SHIT. EVERYONE BEHIND ME
Lol byleth îs such a joke în this game
Bruh now I wish Smash Ultimate would get an update that put this song into the game
This song needs to get into Smash Bros
this is some tasty tasty music
"We did it everyone! The battle is ou-wait, what is that?"
OH COME ON!!
Even on new game + and with a mortal savant Felix, Byleth took massive chunks out of his health box. This was during the Lonato chapter of Azure Gleam so it wasn’t even late game
Now I imagine in three houses, this is Byleth's boss theme (Kinda similar to how the death knight has a boss theme)
When the gym teacher joins the opposite dodgeball team
7/8 time signature at beginning. Pretty neat
What scared me is seeing the strongholds you captured immediately go from blue to red on the map as soon as byleth touched the area...
Guardian Theme of 3 hopes
Randolph, Rodrigue, or Judith: *(Chuckles) I’m in danger.*
(Cue getting slain by the ashen demon)
This music is basically a panic theme.
One word: EPIC
*Stand Down or Die.*
When this music started playing in (I think) Chapter 5 of Azure Gleam (my first route), when you have to fight Lonato, I immediately went "Oh no", cause I wasn't expecting to fight Byleth so soon
Let's be honest, Byleth is scary in the first two fights, after that he is just a punching bag. It would be awesome if Byleth suddenly appeared during skirmish battles to shook player from time to time.
POV: Luigi grabs you at 0%
Whoever wears Byleth's ring in engage will deliver this hell of a Perish Song to his enemies for real (Id like to see Shez or Alfonse as returning heroes)
Based
@@nuibaba280 Do u think the rings will be just protags or also non protag characters?
@@eduardobustamante4749 I have no idea. Prob non protagonists
Hope its a dlc or new game plus bonuses
@@eduardobustamante4749 think its just protagonists.
1:38
Kinda fitting for koei to turn byleth into the lu bu of this game
Objective: SURVIVE
Familiar, but wrong, but powerful, but terrifying, but badass, but demonic. They did a fucking amazing job with this song.
good thing Byleth isnt a prone backstabber
Instead, they have inconsistent sides due to their mercenary job, following whoever gives Jeralt the most money.
Unless you're playing Azure Gleam and you happen to not recruit Byleth
they uh... it would be spoilers but it happens in three houses anyway
you rlly had to remind me of that 😭😭
*RUN EVERYBODY!!*
Byleth jumpscare (REAL)

Oh hell yes! There are very good reasons why the chances of beating Byleth are 0%.
Nah nah it’s more like

@@alexandermoultrie5595 they do end up beating byleth tho.
