The Dark Side of San Francisco - Hunters Point (Episode 1)

  • Join me for the premiere of a brand new series, “The Dark Side of San Francisco”, reporting live from Hunters Point for Episode 1! In this video, we primarily cover the new and old Double Rock housing projects, the former Candlestick Park area and the Harbor Road area. Numerous San Francisco rappers and famous athletes come from this exact area of the city. Hunters Point rests right on the south-eastern side of San Francisco and is often referred to as the most isolated area of the city. It sits right on the shoreline of the San Francisco Bay and the United States military frequently used the location for naval purposes and ship building. Condensed housing was built in the early 1900’s primarily for military related individuals.
    With the engineering and development of various military related equipment, it’s rumored that a portion of the Hunters Point shoreline area is contaminated with radioactive and toxic waste. This is one of the main reasons the Candlestick Park development project is at a standstill and hasn’t seen progress in many years. The investors are skeptical about continuing forward with the possibilities of the areas soil being contaminated from the waste that was dispersed during the shipbuilding era.
    Hunters Point is extremely industrial and offers very little entertainment or healthy eating options. Liquor stores and fast food restaurants run rampant in the area. It’s quite far from the “desirable” areas of San Francisco and has the highest violent crime rate in the entire city. A perfect recipe for impoverishment and neglect from the city of San Francisco.
    Now is the time to stop reading this description and sit back and enjoy the launch of “The Dark Side of San Francisco” series. Like, share and subscribe for new episodes coming VERY SOON!

    TWO JACKS!! Best fried fish in Frisco. ❤ Born and Raised on Jamestown Ave the main road down to Candlesitck hahah. (Specifically @ 2:36 the houses over his right shoulder at the base of the hill). God the Memories!!!
    I remember parking cars for the World Series and met OJ Simpson 10 minutes before the Earthquake hit. I remember when we found Humphrey the Humpback when he beached himself riding our BMX bikes down there (true story). I remember when KYA radio tower got blown over during the mega storms. Oh also Tom Brady and his dad used to park in our driveway and walk down to the Niner games! (My mom was SFPD and knew his dad so it was all good) So wild how much the old neighborhood has changed its three times the number of people over there now!
    Also FUN FACT Bay View Hunters Point Shipyards was where the battleships that where used in the Bikini Atoll Nuclear Experiments we towed chopped up and the blast effects studied. GREAT VIDEO LOVE THAT PLACE GO NINERS !!! Shout out all my Trusty Shellbacks from Treasure Island!
    Great video.

    I'm a little late in seeing this, but being from Double Rock my whole life,(since 1982), I can tell you any and every race was welcomed, and not targeted like the security guard was saying. For the most part like everywhere else, it was black on black violence for the most part. It was a great place to grow up and very fun with hundreds of friends and countless memories.

    Thats one quiet hood. The internet has changed everything, so many people just stay inside online now. Like they are afraid of their neighbors. Back in the day I could imagine all those people, smiling out on their patios with BBQ and drinking and music. The state has probably locked up more than half the men that used to live there. The prison industrial complex.

    Somebody tell me why people from Socal have a misconception about Frisco they swear Oakland is the only place with hoods

    • @privateeyetravelguy
      @privateeyetravelguy  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Beeeeennnnn saying this for years. SF totally gets the “walk in the park” type perception from a lot of narrow minded people. “The homeless, car jackings (bippings) and crazy retail theft is the only issues that beautiful city has” they say… NOPE! The southern area of SF has some of the roughest hoods on the west coast without a doubt.

      It's because of many factors but tons of people from L.A have family in Oakland or Berkeley areas, they've seen what it's like here and we visit our family in Socal it's the same thing. How can ppl know about a place when the people from the place aren't putting in work in other states in cities. I'm from Oakland and I didn't know San Francisco had black people and hoods until I was in High School. Yall always stayed in yall area and never was outside outside of yall city.

    Section 8 housing is not bad. Please stop mentioning Section 8 in the same sentence as Housing Projects. With Section 8 a person can live ANYWHERE IN THE CONTINENTIAL UNITED STATES and pay a portion of their income to live there. HOUSING PROJECTS you are stuck in the "projects." I have always, while on Section 8, lived in very nice neighborhoods where landlords have accepted my Section 8 Voucher and lived like everyone else. I believe it is the housing "projects." that have a bad name. Section 8 is not a part of the "problem." Housing PROJECTS are what you showed in this video, not Section 8. Watch your language boy.
