Preparing Sports Cards for Beckett & PSA Grading

- I get asked pretty often what I look for when submitting cards to Beckett or PSA. Because I am working on a submission coming up, I figured I would give everyone a look at what I do when deciding what to send. This should show you what I am looking at, how I am handling cards, what I am shipping them in (semi-rigids), etc. Hopefully this video was somewhat helpful. Best of luck on your grading submissions.

Brilliant video. Thanks for articulating your thought process when it comes to each component of subgrading with several good examples. Videos like these will help all of us with the dilemma of grading or not. Thanks!
Grading cards can be Intimidating and Nerve Racking... Thank You for these Great Tips.. đđ
Nice video. I like to put post-it flags on the penny sleeve as well so it makes it easier for the grader to get the card out and less risk they damage it.
Great video. I like how it says we check first for centering first and the first zion is way off center yet you review it and notice it, very helpful. That seems to be the biggest catch in a lot of grading, not enough focus on the centering and often over looked. Good advice to review like cards at the same time, when you get say 10 of the same cards, the best of the group do show through.
Will really watch a part 2 of a video like this!!!
Great video man! Iâve been looking for one of these!!
Thank you for doing this video! I greatly appreciate it, very informative bro.
Great video. I have grown to be more appreciative of my PSA 9's. I would like to see a video of the actual grades.
Can you show us your packing and shipping process for grading cards?
Enjoy the video! đđ Can you do another video when they come back in from grading?
Addicted to your videos, man! Keep up the great work. Btw it's SAY-koo, not SO-koo :)
Tha k you for the clear definition about grading đ
great video!!!.... thanks for sharing
Awesome video. Great tips. Thx.
âLooks like heâs dropping rabbit turdsâ Lol
Quick tip place the bron bron in between 6 encyclopedias or textbooks and let sit for a week and curve is gone ... Put 4 on top and 2 on bottom and put card in middle and center it in book surface (middle)
Hi bro, cheers, what are those card holders your using called ? Semi rigid vs toploader yes ? What's cheaper? And where is best to buy ? Thanks, appreciate your video and insights đ
Do you every use Polish or scratch removers on the cards before submitting?
what kind of gloves you have there? thanks for the vids man
Great stuff, thank you for sharing your knowledge. If folks were more picky with what they sent in there wouldnt be such a backlog.
Do you smell the gloves when your done? Mmmmm, heaven.
What do you ship impeccable or thick stock cards in? Do thick stock cards tend to do well in your opinion?
Do you have experience sending PSA 10's to beckett to go for a BGS 10? If it is well centered do you think the odds are good?
When packaging thicker jersey/memorabilia cards, do you still place in semi-rigid top loader?
Thanks for the video! Next time you submit, could you add how to submit them. What paperwork is needed, packaging and shipping. Thanks!
Just follow the directions on their webpage
Do you have a follow up video for the cards returned from grading?
How much does it usually cost to grade when you send in a bulk order like that?
Awesome video! Do you disclose the marks on the cards when you sell them raw?
I'm buying a lot of card online. Boy, one of the worst things, is the defects and off-centering of what I am getting now, more than ever. Be sure to inspect the card closely "before you buy. " -#-
Watched all the way through, glad you did this video. Everyone has a different perspective so it's always great to see someone else's.
Great video. But what kind of gloves u use?
I have a Jordan rookie, bought in a pack in 1986. Who should I send it to? What kind of care do I take in preparing such a high value card? Thanks
What do indents do for the grade? I have a few revolution cards that have them on the back. Im Just not sure how that will affect the grade
@cardcollector2 do you send in cards for grading for other people? and how much does it cost?
You ever use SGC? The black borders on their slabs look sweet
At 10:45 he mentions the print line on the back of the card. I have a card Iâm debating on sending to hga. One that has a line like that and one that has a decent size splotch/mark on the front surface. Anyone have insight on how places look at those lines ? Thanks
Where do you buy your semi rigid graded card holders?
So thatâs how you get the cards ready - how do you package them to ship to PSA?
wouldn't you make more money off a graded 9 over an ungraded? I have an off center LBJ bowman chrome rookie. I think it'll get an 8.5/9. Should I send it in?
Love ur channel brother, wish i lived near ur shop. đ
Do u sell on line from ur store?
How do you actually ship it, what box , how do you secure them in the box ,50 cards for example . thatâs what we need to know.
Pss isn't very strict on centering that's forsure. Good video
Thanks for the info
Ryan!
Why do some use fingernail polish remover to polish their cards and is that a good idea?
I've not had good luck with the cloth I tried. I tried an eyeglass microfiber cloth on a base card, was very careful, but it left marks anyway so concerned about trying to clean cards.
I've also heard you can use cloth diapers. Is this true?
Thanks for sharing!
đđđđđđđđđ
Yes! Fingernail polish remover is a great idea for a gentle surface polish, especially for cleaning up autographs for a smooth look. As far as the cloth diapers, you want to make sure they've been freshly used and not new or they can be a little rough. Now let's go get some 10's!
what would you do with a silver zion? even if you think it would grade a 9 for centering. would you still send it in? around his body I can see the outline in a few spots. everything else looks good.
I'd rather have a graded copy so personally I'd grade it.
I am subscribed
I came across a pair of old non-yugioh and non Pokemon anime cards. I cannot find either of them on PSA and neither of them are graded....how should I proceed??
Is putting post it tabs on the penny sleeve a good thing? So they can remove the card a lot easier, what do you think?
I think so, i do it myself now as Iâve been told good things about it
Are you selling the Zions you didnât send for grading
So overall do you have better luck with psa or bgs?
Hi, I wanted to ask a few questions. Would it be a bad idea to send psa a reholder service for an expensive card like kobe psa 10? Will that be to risky? Should I just leave it in the old slab?
A PSA 10 sent to PSA for putting in an updated PSA slab will come back a PSA 10 as well. If it is just updating to the newest slab my understanding from the PSA site is that your card will NOT be re-graded, just re-slabbed with it's existing grade. Cheers!
What were those card holders?
That's a curvy Lebron- interested to see what it comes back as
you and me both!! fingers crossed
Philmington Iâd let that bad boy rest under a textbook for a few days before subbing lol
@@war3eagle maybe a few years to make any sort of impact lol
All jokes aside great video for those new to grading
@@cardcollector2 Will grading services dock the card if it's curved (PSA or BGS)? I have noticed that a lot, and I mean most, of the "chrome" cards, have a curve to them. Bowman Chrome, Topps Chrome, Panini Prizm, I see it more often than not. Thanks for the great video, by the way, I'm looking to make a bulk submission soon myself. And I'm wondering if I'm being overly critical of what disqualifies a card for submission. I didn't think the curve would get a knock, since they're going to slab it and flatten it out anyway. I appreciate any experience you can share. And did you get the card back? What did it grade?
Whatâs the link for the microfiber cloths youâre using?
Can you submit off centered cards as factory damage to Panini?
They would go bankrupt đ€Łđ
Appreciate the video
What happens to the ones that didn't make the cut to be graded?
Can anyone link me to that special semi card holder sleeves he used?
How long does it take for psa to send your cards back?
So it's been over a year since this video. How did these turn out?
Subs of 10, 10, 10, 8.5 would make the card a 9. A card can only be .5 better than its worst sub grade. For it to be a 9.5 it would have to be 10, 10, 10, 9.
Do u guys take cards and submit to PSA for customers?
what abt vintage cards....do they need to be wiped down??
Why the card savers instead of top loaders?
so the graders dont damage the card
So the card that was once known can be replaced with a 7 or 8 they have waiting to swap yours for
I found it funny how you just "casually" mentioned the Trout Rookie!
Exactly
Do you use a PSA sub group? Holler at me if you do, I'm in a couple of groups for subs but more the merrier
Do the print lines affect the grade dramatically? I wanted to send some 2021 UFC prizm into PSA but they all seem to have printing lines on the back.
Typically I dont have as many concerns if they are on the back, but just never know. Depends on the grader I'm sure.
@@cardcollector2 I appreciate the response!
Which one give btter price after grading, Beckett or PSA ?
Beckett 10 prestine pulls the highest price. Very hard 2 get
Great contents, pretty informative.
Wow. 8.5 just for that one mark? I'm literally putting my first submission together now. Gonna go with SGC this time, as their turnaround time (according to customers I've personally spoken to) have been extremely quick. And at $30ea, I can afford to send a few
I don't think so on Trout. I think it's an iconic card where people will buy them regardless of the grade. And if it's not perfect, it makes it easier to sell !
@@cardcollector2 thanks for the reply sir. Makes sense
cloth + gloves that is how its done
Donât use gloves
Just a thought but could a grading app exist
i would love to see a post grade review of these cards!!
So a bgs 9.5 holds the same value as a PSA 10?
Generally a PSA 10 will sell for more.
Typically
Set a book on that lebronđđ€
Thanks for the info!!
Not the glamorous video but a really helpful video, thanks for sharing your perspective as it is much appreciated for a new collector
Never mind. Answered
Hi
Hey
Silly question, why Beckett and not PSA?
Return time
They don't clean the cards before sealing them. Main reason people who want to hold on to one and send to grade is for it to look nice.
It's crazy to me you guys don't use a centering tool. Best investment I've made.
What does that do?
@@jibcoolio7 Measures the centering of your card to exact percentages
I use an excel sheet with unit measures for the 4x borders that calculates my ratios (50/50, 55/45, 60/40) etc. I measure by hand sometimes but I also scan them on a high res flat bed and then measure a high res printed image too.
Are you using a physical overlay, or a digital one super imposed over scans?
Cheers!
am I the only own who just sends in my cards and am cool with a grade of 8 or higher? maybe one day I will evolve to only submitting cards worthy of a 9 and up
Whatâs a good micro fiber cloth? đđ»
I was wondering the same thing. I tried using a microfiber cloth that comes with eyeglasses /sunglasses on a base card and was very careful but it looked like it scuffed it up anyway so afraid to use anything on them. I've also heard cloth diapers work, but not sure.
You should never rub ur cards with any material
Could you feel any stronger on Megatron's upcoming first ballot HOF, it's a lock! Media shades him for "quitting" but a head injury when your from a scholarly family is no joke he had eight concussions. He also is a great human he helped invent a system that brought critical water to African continent people's and eventually all over the world. From Georgia went top academics from GA Tech. Never presented a character issue, ever. Loyal Lion that wasn't going to play or retire anywhere else, even though he was courted by Aaron Rodgers repeatedly. He is top 3 all time, all day. Character wise only Rice and Fitzgerald can compete.
Seen people who get good grades at a local shop that uses actual wax like car wax and get them shinning like crazy. Anyone else seen that?
Wow, that doesnât hurt the card?
Dumb
not a joke because its been an exposed
PSA10 = worst off center cards đ

I know it's stupid, but I can't get over the fact that you're trying to push people to buy latex gloves from Amazon when you can just take your lazy ass to Walmart and buy a box for two bucks and have them 10 minutes later rather than wait for overnight shipping at the very best case scenario LOL
Yeah I'm going on different Card Collector CZcams channel and tell him that Kobe Bryant has passed away in a helicopter crash earlier today along with his daughter and three other people I'm just letting people know if your Kobe Bryant fans
Can you show us your packing and shipping process for grading cards?
