It wasn't so much that she was laughing at her own joke but rather the idea of there being "one issue" (joke being one political issue) that caused the fued. She thought of the idea of how silly it would be if it were like one political issue, hence her joke based on that premise

tom and charlize actually spoke on the feud and it was actually pretty much what zoe said. they both have never done an action film like that before and they were both nervous about the roles they had. thus, they were very defensive about themselves. this led to them not getting along while filming, but afterwards they actually got to know one another and the feud was over.
Tom Hardy had done some action films before. Star Trek Nemesis, Rock N Rolla, and Warrior.

I know I’m late to reply but I was looking for a comment about that, that was really frustrating as she talked over both of them but especially when Zoe was trying to answer the question of what the issue was, which I was really curious about! And then kind of joke answering over them… I don’t usually get too ticked off with stuff like that but I found that quite annoying…
The crazy thing is I think they are both still excellent in that movie. People don’t always have to get along and it doesn’t even need to be anyone’s fault for that to happen.

This was one feud where it leaked out the two stars didn't get along. Think about the countless others where it's kept under wraps about feuds between co-stars. Hollywood even gets paid a ransom's sum to fight.
@Film4 Archives no this was leaked out during filming before Charlize said anything. lol. I remember. It was so bad that they refused to train for fight scenes together. They had to be separate with their stunt teams.

I suggest everyone to read the new Vanity Fair article that just came out, where a lot of the behind the scenes crew, including Charlize, Tom, and the director talk about the tension on set. Apparently Tom was frequently late on set, showing up 3 hours late while the whole crew and Charlize, in her makeup and costume, had to sit there and wait. The crew described Charlize as always professional and on time (not to mention was also a new mom with a baby at the time), which is what really sparked the "feud" between them, even though it was just Charlize standing up for herself and the other crewmembers. Tom was also apparently really aggressive due to his method acting, leading to on-set protection for Charlize being required. And to think this whole time some articles were blaming Charlize for being cold and hard to work with...
She is a self entitled brat who cant take what she dishes out!

3 hours was prob like 20 minutes. You can't take one persons word, and not think the possibility of the others. You weren't there, you didn't speak to these crew members, you read an article written by someone who ALSO wasn't there.. who's claiming people said stuff. There is an interview with the DP of Mad Max on CZcams somewhere and he says Tom Hardy made things hard for everybody and was showing up 2 hours late on set every day! I can see Charlize being the tough chick that she is not appreciating that unprofessionalism and them clashing. Still they are both great actors and made a great film. Some of the most talented people are difficult.
Similar things were said about her on sets too. I think it was two primadonnas
