  • **Apologies for the sound on the ascent**
    I am looking into purchasing a better audio set up.
    My 4th solo wild camp.
    I have a new tent on this one, the Robens Arch 2.
    Robens seem overlooked by a lot of people, but at 2.3kg and currently only £71.99 at some retailers, this is a solid option for those on a budget.

    Hi, I've just ordered a Robens Arch 2, my only concern is with the longevity of the aluminium poles as, like most tunnel tents, it has a fairly tight arch and does not have pre bent poles. Are you still using this tent, and have you experienced and pole breakages?
    It would be great to see an update video on this tent as, like you said, Robens seem to be quite overlooked and so there are not that many reviews of them.
    Thanks,
    New subscriber.

      Hi Dan, No I've not had it for some time now. Two of my friends still have one though and they've been out in it numerous times with zero issues. You'll probably see it on some of my other vids in shropshire. To my knowledge they have never had a breakage issue but the poles do mishape which is no issue. Thanks so much for subscribing, ATB Paul

    Really enjoyed the story you told and your trip. I am considering buying the robens arch 2 tent. Please how have you found the quality of construction? Is the stiching straight and complete, the seams fully sewn and well taped? Do the poles have a slight pre-bend in them to reduce strain of sleeve insertion? Thank you and good luck.

    • @thatunfitbloke
      @thatunfitbloke  Před 2 lety +1

      Many thanks, I'm glad u enjoyed the vid. For the price I have found the tent to be good quality against the cost. Robens are a solid brand with great customer service. There's a couple of things I don't like about it, 1. The pegs are awful and bend really easy, 2 it has a guy line at the front of the tent which I no longer use as it just gets in the way when entering and leaving. I only use whe. The wind is bad. The Poles are slightly curved and I've never had an issue erecting. Also the fact you can keep the inner attached and pitch as one is a great plus for being out in bad weather. Another 2 man robens tent I've had is the starlight which I feel is a better tent than the arch. It depends on what style you after..all the best with your choice. 👍

      @@thatunfitbloke Great to have all those observations. I am actually reassured by them. Yes ive seen vids on the starlight but the logic of the tunnel design as seen in the arch 2 etc. is really compelling for me. The rrp of the arch 2 is now upto about £170 but it is on heavy sale at many uk stores. Respects.

    Is there space to attach more guylines where the original ones are already fixed for the 2 poles ? , looks almost a 4 season tent if your cautious enough, cheers.

    • @thatunfitbloke
      @thatunfitbloke  Před 3 lety

      I got it in the sale from OUTDOOR CAMPING, they have it back at £140 now, so got a really good deal. Have used it 5 times and it's a great tent. I mainly used it for campsites now rather than wild camping, I now take a 1 man on wild camps. Would def recommend, it offers a lot of space for a relatively low weight of 2.4kg. Thanks for your comment 👍

      @@thatunfitbloke I truly enjoyed your narrative and valued your observations on the robens arch 2. Please may I ask how you have found the waterproofness of the fly? Most serious backback tents have 5000mm fly but the arch 2 only has 3000mm. Have you noticed a visible difference from those trek tents and under how many days camping in rain before you felt the arch 2 waterproofness was a problem? Were you satisfied with the 6000mm floor? Thank you

    Congratulations on getting yourself up there. As you no doubt have realised in post edit, WIND NOISE can ruin your videos. You mentioned a GoPro, but I don't know which model you have, mine are both old (5&6) and despite having a Wind Reduction setting, they're still useless in strong winds so you need to either attach an external microphone with 'dead cat' or go for a stand alone voice recorder with microphone such as your mobile phone or something else better depending on your budget. 26 kg. is HEAVY going up those steep inclines - you will have to show a kit load out video so we can see where the weight is coming from.

    • @thatunfitbloke
      @thatunfitbloke  Před 3 lety

      Yeah, will have to invest in an external mic i think. 26kg was my cadair idris hike, now down to 15kg which I'm OK ish with. Took my drone all way up there for no reason as well, didn't say it would be that windy on the forecast 😳

      My Gopro is the Hero 5 black. So mines an old one as well.

    • @RobertsBulgaria
      @RobertsBulgaria Před 3 lety

      @@thatunfitbloke You have to decide what is best for your budget, I've recently purchased a case to hold the microphone adaptor (the latter is not cheap) and invested in a RODE Wireless Go which means I can use the Microphone on either the GoPro 5,6 or my new OSMO Action. If I use my SONY, it doesn't have an external Microphone Jack so I have to shield it or record externally. It is something else to worry about losing, switching on and charging. I think the GoPro Ulanzi case with a RODE Vlogging microphone is probably all you need, but will still cost you some dosh.

    • @thatunfitbloke
      @thatunfitbloke  Před 3 lety

      For what the tent cost you can't knock it. Performed really well all times I been out in it. Condensation has been poor one time I went out in the snow, but I was cooking inside it. Packs down fairly small and about 2.4kg. For the price u can't argue.👍

      @@thatunfitbloke I have noticed with my vango mirage pro 200 tent that what determines iif there is any condensation in morning is whether was any wind overnight. I noticed in your snow trip video that at least while on camera it was dead still. That and perhaps you had vents all sealed for warmth and fuel burning releases co2 and water vapour. With time do you still feel the robens was unreasonably bad that snow night? Good luck.
