I've always heard the legend of Santiago, but I never knew it was true. They say Santiago once balanced a tire with nothing but a piece of rope, two vices and a hamster wheel. I've even heard that uneven wear patterns will correct themselves out of sheer terror under the cold gaze of Santiago.
i heard he once blew thru a red light, while staring down the camera, and never received a ticket.
Landon Ramsey its true and I was there to witness this, the he cracked open an ice cold Dos Equis for me and said to stay thirty mi amigo! I cried after that...
Oh yes, and he doesn't need beadlocks cuz he can set a tire bead just by blowing in the valve stem!
he doesn't need torque wrenches or sockets either he uses his bare hands and still has to be careful not to snap the bolts
Andrew Mullett legend has it Santiago is my dad that said he'd be back from getting milk at the market but never came back
Rumor has it that even Chuck Norris gave up mounting tires once he saw Santiago's work.
Legend has it, Santiago is still being introduced in a epic and righteous manner.. rock on.
Just switched to balance beads on my mid terrains. Awesome solution for larger tires.
Im Santiago too but Im no bad ass,,,and yes I used Ceramic beads to balance my tires and it works fine but keep in mind if you have a small leak you wont be able to use a tire sealer spray can cuz it will glue all the beads together.
I'm a huge fan of ceramic beads I run them now in all my rigs. Amazing how much better it can feel.
I appreciate you taking ideas like this and testing them for us so we don't have to try it blind. Let us know what you like and don't like about this method! Based on the comments, it looks like there are lots of questions. I look forward to an update in 6-12 months. Keep the videos coming, Tyler.
Hows yours working out? I've got a set of Yokahomas on my sons truck that we've got right at five months on that will coming up on their first rotation next oil change we balanced with the ceramic beads and we've had zero problems out of them, he drives it a couple of hundred miles every other weekend back and forth to collage.
have heard of putting a cup of antifreeze in a drive shaft to balance it (when making one up). Sounds like a lot research went on to have a chart how many BB's to tire size. Hope you have a safe winter!*
Yes it works, there are actually bb's just for tire balancing. I run into them all the time dismounting tires from other shops. The difference between stick-on/rim weights and bb's is that when done right like this the tire essentially balances itself for the life of it, instead of needing a balance every so often. Some even go in through the valve stem(without the core in it of course)
bleepin jeep exactly what size are those rims and tires and do you have a lift im looking to get bigger tires for my tahoe but i also have a 3inch body lift
3:04 Aligning red dot on a tire with a valve - definetly a badass.
Surprised a lot of people don't know this
I really appreciate your support of the many Santiagos out there.
I used special off road sand like big machinery for mine. Worked well
I've run Dyna Beads in both my motorcycles for years. I've run my FJR up to 135 MPH and it was smooth as butter. The only issue with the Dyna Beads is installation. A real hassle, but they do work as advertised. After changing out the tires, I saw no trace of wear or damage inside the tire or to the rim.
Ended up using 100g (or 1000 BBs) of match grade airsoft pellets for each of my 33x12.50 Goodyear Duratrac. Very smooth and balanced ride.
Doesn't feel weird below 30 mph? Thinking about trying this with my new tire. It's kind of a small car
@@Zach-im1vu the BBs start balancing over 5 mph. They continually balance the wheel as your driving. The idea is that as you use the tires off-road and lose chunks of rubber the tires are still balanced with the BBs moving around.
I put in steel bbs in my tires. works great even when the tires are full of mud. sounds funny when coming to a stop. I noticed them balancing out by 15 mph. I had them in for little over a year on 33x10.5r15 km2 and I don't see any irregular wear or rim damage. overall I am happy with bb balancing.
This actually can work, but the best is lead shot (for reloading shotshells). The rule of thumb is 1 handful per tire on a normally-driven car (less for tiny cars), 2 handfulls each for pickup truck (30-38") sized tires or aggressively driven car tires. This is especially useful for bias ply tires, which are notorious for shifting balance points. It works similarly in concept to the fluid harmonic balancers used on high performance engines.
dude it works good they put ball pack in my front tires in my work truck . the front end runs so smooth. i have about 1000 miles now.
@BleepingJeep love the description!
I love the small Tire shops. twice as friendly, no gimmicks and always seem to be more knowledgeable that the chain stores
I had a similar item used in my tires when I had new wheels put on my truck They put bean bags in my 37" tires. I use this truck for mainly highway driving and I absolutely hate them and will be changing them back to traditional weights soon. Just my experience with them.
Do you have any further comments on how this has gone...?
Okay, it's June now. How are the tires holding up?
This video was done really well, and I liked what you had to say about Santiagos work. A lot of people sacrifice quality craftsmanship for a big sticker warranty.
We have our own "Santiago" here in our town as well and everything the poster has said about Santiago is true. Thank you for posting Santiago.
how do the iron Man a/t run I have a set on 87 burban and had to set it down due to a break down... I only have around 200 miles on them
So did it work and continue to work?
I've ran airsoft bb's in my bias ply 36's on the street and offroad for over 4 years now. Still works great. I also run them on my truck tires. No issues at all.
I used the weight chart from dynabeads. I did have to add some to the bias plys as they did not want to balance with the recomended weight.
Mine start to balance up before 30 miles per hour. I usually can feel the balance pick up and go away at about 10 to 15 miles per hour.
You made your friend sound like a movie star with a great movie ending lol
Iv heard of people putting a lil antifreeze in with the bbs so they don't clump. Yet to try it myself.
interesting I have seen guys also use 4-6oz of sand in the tires to balance them. The only thing with that is if you want to check tire pressure you have to make sure you are close to a air compressor cause the sand sometimes gets stuck in the valve stem and it starts to leak. This method sounds like a good idea. Especially if one of BBS get stuck in the valve stem then it would most likely prevent a leak.
I fall in love with Santiago
Real men balance their tires with rifle primers and lug nuts. It's all about living on the edge.
you can also use antifreeze. Just make sure when you measure you don't use fluid ounces because they are completely different than physical weight of ounces. Make sure to not use straight antifreeze as that can freeze at higher temperature than mixed antifreeze
It would be interesting to see. My F350 uses a lot of weight to balance the huge tires on it and they always seem to be out of balance a short time later.
DillysADV same it is really annoying.
Ya, one of my hopes with this set up is that the tire should continually balance itself as it wears, etc. Theoretically, it should always balance itself for the life of the tire. I'll let you guys know if that's actually what happens.
For science, could you run a tire with no weights at several speeds and noting vibration, and then coming back with the beads and making notes at those same speeds what you find? Also, are the wheel bearings holding up in those vehicles? If they run out of balance whenever you are below 30MPH, then you are putting stress on the bearings and races.
Works fine smooth roads, rough roads not so much. 84 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban balanced tires with that type of material 33/12.50-16.5 BFG all terrain, worked well when road smooth, when it was a little rough truck would experience death wobble occasionally. Balanced tires with normal weights and never had death wobble again. Will only use regular weights now.
There are two kinds of wheel instabilities.
1) radially (eccentric center of mass) and
2) coplanar (wobble).
Which one you think these balls do best?
I use 10 oz of air soft pellets in my 37x12.50r16.5s on my 89 Ramcharger. They work great and I have no vibration at highway speeds
You ran summer tires in winter...
not surprised she went off road.
I have had zero luck doing this on my TJ with 33's. (MTR's at the time) I used real BB's (almost all forums say to use a shot glass worth, so I did) Steering was extremely difficult to say the least. They were noisy when going slow speeds, including starting up from a light and coming to a slow down. At speeds, they didn't seem to spread out as I anticipated but instead clumped up and created a "whump, whump, whump" feel. I didn't take it on the E-way as I didn't think it would be a wise move. Fastest I got was around 50 mph. Hope you have better luck than I did.
A shot glass would only be for well balanced tires anyway. I used 12oz in each tire for my 33's
justadbeer a shot glass glass isn't enough. heavy truck tires we use 12oz of weight.
I don't have enough in mine. Someone had two extra bags of semi tire beads and I put half in each tire. I have a chevy 2500 with 33s. I still get vibration at higher speeds and it helped just a bit. I am thinking I need more beads. Can i just add more beads without buying another complete kit? i was thinking of adding 8 oz more. thoughts?
a little off topic, but had you gone with a 17 in wheel on your GMT 800 (00-06/07 classic 1500) Tahoe you could have upgraded the front breaks to the GMT 900 (07-13 1500) style (you need to swap the caliper, caliper bracket, and rotors) to get a significant brake upgrade.
Now back on topic. I got some beads to run in my XJ, but have always been leary to run them due to popping a bead when wheeling, and messing up the ratio. Also I'm only on 32"s, and was told by my little local guy that there would be a good chance they wouldn't work to well because of my tire size being on the smaller size. He said he sells them, but just didn't think I'd be happy with them.
I know people who balance their tires with antifreeze as well (Canada). they swear by it, but I've never seen any real testing on that either.
if I may I have one thing to share that might be helpful to some people here. I ran ceramic beads in my Goldwing motorcycle tires for years, they do work and they do an excellent job at that. However, my friends who tried plastic beads reported that after 5K miles the plastic beads started lumping/melting together due to the high heat generated inside the tire caused by fast rotation and the beads bumping into each other. With that said, that might not apply to vehicle tires due to their larger size and more room to dissipate heat, but the heat and fast rotation factors are still involved in the process. I am about to try those ceramic beads once in my 4runner's AT265/65/17 tires soon.
Video title: how to balance tire.
Clicks video: this is the documentary of Santiago
I wonder how these are holding up?
any updates?
Thumbs up for Santiago
Does Santiago still play soccer for Newcastle?
You should of post the video after you ran it for a couple of months!
I will.
looking forward to it.
I wanna try it. You only live once right? Santiago...awesome name.
I had 3 different tire shops try to balance my 35" MTR's and none of them could get them to balance so I tried Airsoft BB's which actually made them worse than no balancing at all. The funny thing is I've always used balancing beads in my motorcycles and they worked great there. I suspect the airsoft BB's aren't as dense as the actual small balancing beads I had used in my bikes and think it probably would have worked with them. I ended up buying a bubble balancer and stick on weights, balancing them myself and now I can run 75 smooth as silk.
RaneyOneTwenty that's a much bigger tire use steel BB's for more weight for the bigger tire.
"these are metric but are about the equivalent of a 34 inch all terrain" had to LOL at that one coming from a off road channel. 285-75-16 are what he put on 32.8
About a pound of 6mm .25g airsoft pellets in each and my 44 swampers are smooth as silk up to 55, which is about the fastest the truck will go 😂
Don't worry about Sanchez coming to your home without you there...worry about Santiago....he is the true Sanchez 😂😂
Santiago once balance the Air Force One's tires just by he's mare stare.
The outside of the tire will last longer, but the inside will wear out faster. have uses glass pellets (best I've found),bb's, golf balls and tennis balls in my 18 wheeler.
Ray Beoate lol have you tried pennies?
I have a Geo Metro with 12" tires. I purchased Crosman .2 gram balls, put in 1.7 oz first but vehicle shimmied some, installed 3.3 more making it 5 oz total, shimmied worse. I wouldn't recommend it, as it didn't work for me.
do these damage the tire pressure unit on newer vehicles?
John B yes... they blow up.
you can buy bags of equal at heavy truck tire shops and it is tpms safe.
would they melt from the heat of a long drive in the heat? or in the desert?
They might get a bit soft but I doubt they'd melt all the way. MAYBE after a cross country road trip over the south in the summer
I really don't know. I do some driving every summer through some seriously hot desert though, so I'll let you know what happens.
I imagine they would be fine seeing as even the weakest plastic LDPE melts at 98*C or 208*F. They have to be tougher than that to not shatter when shot from an air-soft gun.
Wheel size does not matter, it all depends on what kind of tires you're running. I have 22s on my truck and they drive perfectly in snow and dirt roads even though they have street tires on.
I have done this successfully, do not use beads with TPMS sensors
Why not?
I want to see the inside of that tire after a year of getting the crap beat out of them by those beads !
It's legit. I drive tractor-trailer, and the tire shops always use some sort of beads to balance the steer tires. I don't think they're actual BBs, though. They come in a little bag, the tire tech just throws the entire sealed bag into the tire. It breaks open on it's own and balances the tires perfectly. Never had a problem with one.
What you can't see will change your mind. Steel bbs will eat away at the rim surface inside the tire, causing rust and corrosion. Better to use plastic or ceramic.
I would've too that was a sweet Cherokee!!😫
All the hard work was done by somebody else before Santiago got over here. Should be easy 🤣
im sorry but thoes arent 34s my 31s look like they would dwarf them it could be some sort of camera wizardry
James Flores Yea those tires look lie the same as the black wheels. Those rims are 22s. There's no way that there's 6 inches of sidewall on each side of the rim. they look like 28s, 30s max
I had the same color Cherokee It was my first car had it for almost a year had to sell it because I was out of money I lost $700 on that thing and I would take it back in a second
I paid $3400 for this one, owned it for 5 years and sold it for $4000...and even with the extra $600, I regret selling it. It's the only jeep I've ever sold!
that pan on the tire at 1:22 felt like forever - now to finish watching :/
Are you interested in selling those 22''
I actually traded them for the 16's...sorry.
I take my hat off to Santiago. I love hard working people. Great video as well.
Here is a video of my results:
czcams.com/video/i8lybhC3U6k/video.html
I put 3 ounces of Airsoft BBs in each tire of my Prius using a "harbor Freight" style tire changer tool and went on a 2,400 mile road trip with mostly highway miles and got a bald spot on one of the tires and vibration after an initially "smooth as glass" ride. It was a set of four touring tires that still had a few miles left on them so I figure it would make for an inexpensive experiment. I suspect the tire with the bald spot was on the rim that I pulled a fairly large lead tire weight from!
This may have stressed the suspension on the front passenger wheel since it is making a new intermittent rattling sound after returning from the road trip.
Afterwards, I went to the tire store in town and replaced the touring style tires with snow tires and the ride is smooth again.
They've been doing this with motorcycle tires for a few years... How ever, the long term rotation will grind the air soft into powder... Not a good choice, I think.
use sand blasting glass beads works heaps better
There are not the fault because of the low profile tires on 22'' it is all about that they don't have thread at all, what did you expected.
I tried the airsoft for 6 months or so they worked okay but we're not perfect. I found a company on eBay (checkered flag). they also have a website and CZcams channel they sell the real stuff for pretty cheap. like 30$ for 4 x 35" tires. they also have awesome customer service
the narration HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA i Like, OLE'!
what rims are they?
the 22's or the 16's?
Tyler Bleepinjeep the ones that are on it now. the 16s lol
been around tires for 30 years non of it works just sticks or sits inside
I think they mean metal bbs, not plastic ones. I think plastic ones are probably too lightweight to do anything in a tire.
"Here in my garage..."
You need a old on the car tire balance machine. Those work like a charm for high speed driving and balancing. Here is a demonstration of an older hofmann wheel balancer : czcams.com/video/7UP97bO-MpU/video.html
Those don't look low profile. I have 26's and my tires are alot thinner than that. I've seen lower profile 22's aswell.
car tires too ?
Why do people associate tire profile with tread depth
Shout out to Santiago
kick ass music
All that to say "Oh the machine wouldn't do it"? WTH man.
I ad my 33's balanced with beads. at low speeds they were wobbly. seeing I drive my jeep at low speeds more than fast I did not like it. I have also heard that some beads will rip a tire apart from I side.
I wonder how metal BB's would work
this is not new i used to get my streetbike tires balanced with beads everytime i would switch them and this is atleast 3 years ago
I've never balanced tyres mainly because it's worn out items on the vehicle that causes problems. never had a faintest Wheel wobble yet. the only time a tyre is bad is usually very cheap remoulds ve had a few mainly purchased on a vehicle. I don't even have problems with cheap tyres. I think it was invented to make a bit more money from tyre fitting.
Justin Middleton just because you haven't encountered it doesn't mean it's made up. wheel imbalances are a very common issue on larger tires. small tires it's just not nearly as noticeable. most all balancing is pointless under around 45mph though.
Link broken
Wait until you have a final answer before posting video
That is how they balance big truck tires.
Check out TyreBeads good reviews on Amazon. Neat idea.
Got pressure sensors in your rims they're not going to work so this is just for older vehicles bigger tires it's not for your casual everyday car that has I will say this again sensors in there to let you know how much air pressure is in there but
This didn't work for me at all. 36x12.50 Super Swamper TSL's bias ply that I had been running with no balancing and used mostly offroad but still used on the road at times. Whenever driving on the road they always shook really bad so I finally tried this and had poor results. I used 16oz in each tire and they shook just as bad as before they were added. I'm no expert but I believe the problem is that when they follow the tire around there is a flat area where the tire contacts the road and this disrupts the beads from properly balancing the tire. Even at 100 mph this flat spot would exist. Unless the tire stands up like a slick on a top fuel dragster the beads just can't lay in the tire correctly to balance them. Using a centramatic tire balancer or something like it would probably get rid of the flat spot syndrome and maybe work. Just my .02 cents on the subject.
Oh my GOD....so much nothing happened
It's legit, but skip the BBs and get the proper ceramic beads which don't damage the rims.
plastic isn't going to damage metal wheels
Air soft homes.
Wait a minute.. You think a tiny .3g PLASTIC BB is going to damage an ALLOY/STEEL wheel...? Is that what you're saying?
