    That may repair the tyre to get you off a trail but that can't be trusted, any sidewall puncture will fail in a short period of time, a patch will not flex like the tyre and that is a dangerous repair on a sidewall. Remember people viewing this temporary get you off the trail repairs, replace the tyre as soon as possible!

    I picked up a screw in the tread, 1" from the edge but still in the tread, and shops refused repair. So I went to a truck tire shop and the young twit behind the counter refused repair so I told him to put in a tube after patching the tire. Nope, said the young twit but an old mechanic passed by and told him to order the tube. I then used it as the spare, It was a new Rubicon with 7k miles on Goodyear MTR tires which at that time cost over $200 each. I am 76 and we frequently had tubed tires on our trucks. I also tore a valve stem at a Jeepers Jamboree and the repair kit would have been helpful but I made it to the repair camp where they fixed it for me. Now to go buy the kit and thank you for a great video.

    Matt, I had got a set of 5 tires years ago then that weekend ripped one open and puncture another. Safety Seal plugged them both. Both were in sidewalls, half dozen in the cut one and 2 in other. The kick in the n##s was the tire maker stopped making that pattern of tires only one was available. So one became a spare the plugs held until I replaced with new set after numerous years. Part of reason was I didn't run but 25 psi in the tires anytime at most.
    It's good to see "extended patch kits" out now. The factory tires on my JT i had started getting many punctures due to road construction, i ended up with over half dozen of the Safety Seal plugs in one tire in a week, just from driving to work. On 3rd set now in 3.5 years.

I used to work at DTC and sidewalls were always off limits, but it's neat to see they finally make a product that actually works, although, I would only use this in a pinch on the road or off-road, but I would never keep driving around on them and I would get it replaced ASAP as it is not a permanent solution. That all being said I would definitely keep that product in all my rigs seeing what it was just put through.

      @robertragsdale6955 Před 29 dny

      Technically. All plugs and patches are off limits. I don't know of a tire manufacturer that recommends a patch or plug. That being said any tire with a plug or patch immediately voids any warranty due to manufacturer defect And technically all future liability goes to the person who patched the tire. Thats why these plugs/patches specifically say not for on road use. Off road use only.

    • @jds-universe
      @jds-universe Před 25 dny +1

      @@robertragsdale6955Technically, coming from someone that has worked in the field for 6 years and repaired hundreds of tires and never had a repair come back, I can say your statement is not factual and all manufacturer warranties are handled at store level for the customer, that being said, your manufacturer's warranty only covers defects that are caused in manufacturing and they end up going back to the tire distribution center like American Tire Distributors and most companies like DTC (Discount Tire Co) offer some sort of tire hazard certificates that cover any damage to the sidewall, the plugs are just as strong as the original rubber they came with when installed correctly. (Remove foreign object, drill rasp hole, use DTC tire plug coated in tire cement glue, cut plug flush inside, grind inside of repair area, scrap area, vacuum inside, use tire cement glue on inside repair area, place tire patch inside, use stitcher, use Xtra Seal Tire Repair Cement, then clip other side of plug on outside of tire flush with the tire surface so it can't be ripped out). Last time i repaired a tire was 2012 and this was the industry standard repair at the time.

    This is much safer than ramming a dozen plugs into a sidewall 😂 it doesnt have to be safe to get yoy back off the trail, as long as its a temporary fix. 🤙

    The side wall repair is temporary at best.
    A common rule in patching most leaks with water, and similar with air..
    If you want to keep water in something like a bucket, a tub, a pool. Put the patch on the inside.. if you're trying to keep water out like a roof or Windows then the seal should be on the outside..
    That's my opinion

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  Před 21 dnem

      Ive done an inside patch on the trail, it sucks and is also temporary. This patch is way easier and works to get you going again and off the trail.

    Does he say how many tubes of glue come in the kit ?

  • @hughrs
    @hughrs Před měsícem

    There is a glue/slime for the tire plugs that make it much easier for the plug to slide into to hole so you dont have to hammer it in, im shocked the kit doesn't have it and even more shock you didnt know about it ... look up tire plug glue

    • @jlee6410
      @jlee6410 Před měsícem +1

      @@bleepinjeep I used the pattern they include on the card in their sidewall repair kit, and in my opinion this is the weakness of the whole concept. Putting it in dots creates a bunch of channels for air to escape if you don't get the sidewall tear perfectly sealed when you glue it closed in the first steps. It looks as if a nice clean knife cut to the smooth part of a sidewall would seal up fine, but I don't have many knives flying at my tires on the trail and the sidewall cuts I have had to deal with are all ragged and in the area around and in between the side lugs. Two of the 3 patches failed (started leaking air out the sides of the patch) immediately, the third as soon as I started driving and flexed the patch. Another thing I see as a weakness is that the glue is basically super glue and gets brittle when it dries. It does adhere well to the tires, when I pulled one patch off using vice grips it pulled away some tire rubber with it where the glue dots had stuck, but crunchy glue isn't going to allow a whole lot of tire flex now is it? I want to like this product but unfortunately I don't have confidence in it after trying it.

    I don't think I've ever put a big slice in an offroad tire in a nice smooth featureless sidewall. There are always side lugs in the area which would make your technique useless and your claim ANY flat tire just wrong.

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  Před 23 dny

      Depends on the tire, but you're gonna have to fix it somehow. If it's in a side tread area that's where the tire grinder i showed comes in. Or a flap disk would work too.
