This might just be the best Voctave reaction I've ever seen.
I love that Iâm getting an entire music theory lesson to one of my absolute favorite Voctave performances! EJâs 24 second sustained belt (with upward modulation!) slays me every time.
If you listen to their disney princess medely, the altos are so rich in that section of pocahontas. So thick and rich you need a knife to cut it.
As a tenor I appreciate your critique of this! I love your explanation of the tenor voice.
So glad you're highlighting Voctave - they are often overlooked but so, so good. Please do more of their work, they are insanely gifted. Also, I know Christmas is over but an absolute must is their cover of Mary, Did You Know featuring Mark Lowry (who wrote the lyrics) and really captures the song like no one else can. (Mark is seated as he has MS and yet, his tone and emotion and ability to hold a note is unbelievable.)
They are all Disney performers in groups like Voices of Liberty and used to performing together acapella live. They are always amazing to listen to.

Voctave is in the same vein of pentatonix... their tone, entrances and cut offs are so professional and precise they sound just as good if not better live with very little to no post production!! Gurl, us musical theater & choir geeks are rocking out with you in every reaction!!

Wow, this didn't seem like a 28 minute video to me at all. I find your way of taking things apart and explaining them fascinating. I wish I had teachers like you when I was in school 50 years ago, I might have been a better student. You always look like you are slapping someone across the face when a particular part of a song grabs you one way or another LOL, that's very cool. I was a tad lost during your music theory part because I didn't have any of that in school, I was in the school orchestra and marching band so our focus was on playing and performing, not theory. I like how you explain the voice and how it works, and I like how you explain why singers make the choices they do. I really enjoy your videos and I hope you continue to make them just like this. Stay safe and know that I appreciate your effort and time spent making these videos.

Yours is the first reaction I have EVER SEEN to Voctave ,with immersion and analysis while thoroughly enjoying the piece. You can tell how much music itself means to you. Your Joy is contagious. You get a moment ? Listen to their "Pure Imagination " ( willy wonka ) The first full chord put me on the floor... Thanks Jess I am in for Soprano Notes.
Someone below (earlier) noted that Jamey Ray is the founder and sole arranger. I remember seeing a video that quoted him and his relationship to the group. When asked about his arranging style and skill, he said that he selects singers with qualities he knows, and then arranges the music to take full advantage of their individual and combined skills. In effect his arrangements are tailored predominately to the specific performers. And the results are spectacular.
You're phenomenal. I've watched a hundred reactions to Voctave singing this song. Yours is a perfect balance of technical analysis and pure appreciation. It's enjoyable watching you enjoy great music. Bravo!
