  • Today we're taking a close look to a belt tensioner. (Also called an auto-tensioner.) We'll go over a number of different things you can do to test the tensioner and, if need be, how to replace it. This specific vehicle is an '06 Acura TL.

    Your video showed me the ONE thing I'd missed when trying to install my Serpentine belt, leverage. Now, I'm back on the road again and I'm feeling pretty good about myself because I'm a mom who didn't have to call a mechanic. Thank you!

    Good video. Next time you may want to thread a few nuts onto the studs before you crank the vice onto it. That way the vice would tighten up onto the nuts and not potentially bugger up the threads.

    I never had to go from the bottom to change out the tensioner. U can use a 14mm ratchet wrench on the tensioner and the 12mm bolt is accessible with a deep socket+1/2 to 3/8 adapter.

    Much of my problem was to access idlers/tensioner and determine which one is actually the tensioner and the size socket to use. Is the tensioner bolt size generally identical for various vehicle models? Very useful video. Thank you. 2021/06/06. Ontario, Canada.

    Hey man, great vid. Helped me understand belt tensioners, maybe you can offer some advice...
    I have a project off road go kart with a 200cc engine from a generator. I want to fit a tensioner because the shorter belts aren't thick enough. Do you have a diagram of how tensioners work to help me build one for this engine? Or could you take a look at some photos of my set up?
    If anyone reading this can help then please do, I'm new to all this!

      Use two combination wrench ... Put one on pulley bolt then stuck wrench’s other end into longer wrench’s round side ( be careful) ..u’ll able to release without spending money on special serpentine belt tools

    On my 3.5 Altima Coupe, one fastener is behind the PS pump pulley. 😟. Looks like crow’s foot time and just hoping it goes finger loose quickly.
    Also, my tensioner ($20/sitting on workbench) has 135k on it with a slight wobble on hand inspection. The belt I R&Red I had 5 years and 60k and all ribs were seriously cracked.
    Will do tensioner when motivation strikes. 😀

    If a tensioner is suppose to have 40lbs on a torque wrench then why the heck cant that be done on vehicle instead taking it off, I know some just love taking things apart but some of us dont like taking stuff apart that dont NEED to come apart...........

    • @venge1894
      @venge1894 Před 4 lety +1

      A belt can only come loose if it has no tension (faulty tensioner) or the belt itself is faulty. If a belt is old or damaged, it may be stretched out and no good. L

    i have a really bad misfire, checked everything including ecu. The misfire is soo strong it tugs the tensioner back and forth ORRRR is it the tensioner causing the misfire. Guess what i really want to know is if a misfire usually constricts the engine to the point where you see the tensioner pulling back and forth? AC doesn't work, Power steering doesn't work alternator producing only 13.5 volts. but it looks like the misfire is messing with tensioner. but this vid has me thinking that its the tensioner causing the misfire.
