    I am 69 yo. Still hit a 7 iron from 150. Not long but not short I guess. I just built a set of 101’s. I put in a reg fujikara air speeder 50 in it. Use to build all my own clubs. Haven’t for years. I was hitting Mizuno graphite irons. Played my first round today and shot 75, with two three outs. Love the feel of these clubs, heads are exceptional. Follow up question for you on your review. As I mentioned in my prior comment, I play Takomo 201 with Project X LZ 6.0 soft stepped and PXG Gen3 0311 P with Elevate Tour Stiff. I swap back and forth and think that I prefer the cavity back for feel and trajectory control. Wondering if you find the hollow body irons harder to fly low when desired. Also wonder if you find the hollow body irons to be more forgiving than comparable cavity back. 101T and 201 seem to perform the same for you.
    I also had a club building question. My 201's weigh around 8 grams more than the 0311's. Both are a D2 swing weight. I think this comes down to the different shaft weights but wondering if the 201's can be built lighter with these same shafts or if I need to go down to Project X LZ 5.5 to lower the total weight. I find that the heavier shafts improve my impact position but I can get a bit tired by the end of the round. I'd like a similar feel in the swing with a slightly lighter overall package.

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  Před 7 měsíci

      Flight is primarily determined by loft so that will be the big factor.

    I play the 201 irons. Bought the heads only based on one of your prior videos. They're built with Project X LZ 6.0 soft stepped. Really enjoying them. I switch between these and PXG Gen 3 P. I get a little bit more spin and better stopping power on 7 to 5 iron with these but also loose a little distance. Fair and expected tradeoff. There's 1 degree of loft difference between the sets. I see no difference 8 through PW. Very different feeling though. The 201's encourage better ball striking. I need a little bit of distance help (7 iron goes 150 yards) and the 201's give me that with a club that's a bit different than the mainstream. I've demoed the P770. Seeing that it's comparative to the 101t and that the 201 goes the same distance as the 101t tells me that I'm good with the 201. No need for iron envy; just play golf.

    Takomo would be wise to replace the 201 and 301CB with a single model, with lofts and ball speed numbers in between the two.
    Currently the 201 is too similar in performance to the 101T, and the 301CB is too similar to the 301 MB.
    And of course, it would be nice if they offered the ability to combo their sets, from the 101T down to the 301MB. And you really only need one club model to do that, not the current two.

      301CB is essentially a blade. The cavity back is extremely small so it's by far the least forgiving. I get identical numbers from the 201 and 101t. I am also playing the JPX 923 Tours and am seriously considering picking up a set of Takomo 301s to compare.
      I’ve got KBS Tour 130s in them right now and absolutely hate those shafts.

    Quick question....
    I know that you change the feel of the 101T by putting hot melt glue in it. How does the feel compare to the others once you've done that? I have a couple of forged sets of irons that I have grown to really enjoy the feel, and have wondered if I will ever go back to cast. However, if you can customize them enough to meet needed specs, it's really a smarter club to purchase. I hate how my Hogans get dinged up in the bag.

      Takomo is based in Finland and heads are made in a foundry in China. Don’t let that worry you. I have been building and repairing clubs for 35 years and have built all of the Takomo models and they are as good as any name brand. Takomo's are absolute trash. They last about one year, tops. You get what you pay for. I had the Takomo 101s. First issue was that the heads started tilting off of the shaft. Sent photos to Takomo and they agreed to repalace them, but had the audacity to blame KBS. I spoke with KBS and they said they were going to have a word with Takomo, after they saw the email Takomo sent me. Fast forward three months and I get the new irons and they are just freaking ridiculously good. Fast forward a year later and the heads are literally flying off on the driving range. Not hitting fat. Pure, ball first contact, with a bacon strip divot. Going to tryout the Pinemeadow Golf single length irons now, but Takomos are just trash. It's just a matter of when they start to fall apart, not if.

    Takomo is garbage. After 20 months my 101T irons will not create any spin, hit low shots, and will not hold a green. They are made of cheap metal and the grooves collapse. Nearly every country in the world has laws that require takomo to accept the return if it’s their mistake. Failing that your credit card company can recover the monies. That is of course dependent on it being their fault and not simply that you’ve customised a set then ordered the wrong ones
