    When I was in high school back in the 80's I had a buddy drill out the persimmon wood under bottom plate and put a bunch of lead filling into the hole he carved out. The thing weighed as much as a ballpeen hammer. He hit that thing miles. Of course he was 6'4 and over 220 pounds at 16 years of age. He never played it in tournaments but if he had he probably would have gotten caught.

    I'd guess that comparing dispersion with a different style of club is a bit unfair, as it was clear that you weren't sure how to hit the mini driver and were comfortable with your gamer. I think the video makes the mini driver head look pretty good; as with most clubs, it just needs to be set up in the right specs for the player and they need to practice to get good with it.

I think the big head driver and the hopped up ball are really the only REAL advances in golf equipment since the advent of steel shafts......Juiced up Lofts and pretty heads are very expensive Non Actual Improvers of equipment.,,, give Dan Pohl,,,leading driver in the late 80's a Big Bertha Head and a Rock Flight and he is right there with today's boys.

    It is my belief, that we are all playing with clubs that are too light. I went back to an old set of irons I used in the late 80's and 90's that are each 30 gms heavier than the modern set I was using. My dispersion was way tighter than it has been for I don't know how long. Maybe 30 years !!! There is less chance of losing control of a heavier club. The swing becomes smoother, more stable and the shaft does not flex all over the place. If the mini Driver had a 80 gm shaft things would in my opinion, have been way better.

      I replaced my mizuno MP-33 with a used set of cavity irons, Callaway Apex. Much lighter feel. I did not gain distance and my dispersion is worse. Harder to control. Back to MP-33s. More control.

    I listened to a podcast with Butch Harmon. He stated that Tiger Woods used a 43.5-inch shaft in his driver so that he wouldn't "get it caught behind" in his swing. I'm not sure what that means, but I know that it is much easier for me to swing my 43-inch 3-wood than it is my 45.5-inch driver. How common is it for professional golfers to have shorter driver shafts? And, why do they benefit when most non-professional golfers simply lose swing speed and distance?

  • @M--76
    @M--76 Před 16 hodinami

    Around 2003-2004 I made a driver and 3 wood with the X100 shaft because I saw Tiger playing that setup. I don't recall it being amazing but I also don't recall it being terrible. The one thing I do remember was both seemed to be consistent.

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC Před 13 hodinami

  • @kennyg63
    @kennyg63 Před 16 hodinami

    What you are describing may all be true. I would think that with less skill a conventional driver with benefit someone even more. The graphite shaft you are using is extra stiff. The average golfer needs higher launch and benefits from a lighter object with a larger face. What percentage of the golfing public is swinging over 105 mph?😊

      It's all about comfort. You want your clubs long enough where the short clubs don't feel too short and the long clubs don't feel too long. I still use 45 inches as my standard. 45.5 if you want it long and 44.5 or 44 if you want it short. Personally I don't think anyone needs more than 45 inches.

    I've been using a tee to help install grips for a long time. I push the tee into the hole in the grip butt. This helps in a couple of ways. First, it makes the application of solvent neater, since it won't leak out from both ends of the grip. Second, the tee compresses the air inside the new grip just enough to ease the insertion onto the shaft, and helps to avoid pushing the grip too hard. Try this and see if it helps.
