    I was nine years old when they pulled it out of oak park to rebuild this beautiful locomotive. I first saw this it in Springfield Oregon and toured its freedom train cars as school field trip . And been love with the old girl since.

      Gary Dennis jr Gary my story mirrors yours exactly. Although I'm older. I remember before my son was born getting inside the fence and climbing around on all the locos there. Great memories.

    Great Video! 1225 is not a Northern. She is a 2-8-4 Berkshire. Sister locomotive to the Nickel Plate 765.

    At 1:53 they seem to be loading her up with coal. I thought she was an oil burner. Am I wrong?

    • @willybillybob3
      @willybillybob3 Před 8 lety +1

      That's a great question. They didn't completely intrigue Us and show Her getting filled, but I'm guessing it was some sort of nostalgia thing they were going for, because the ole girl has been burning oil ever since I first saw Her on Pentrex in 1995.

      She can't load up with coal, as her tender is completely covered, so it carries oil. But if she ran on coal, they would use a hopper, and not an excavator.

    Why is American railroading so freaking NOISY! It's near impossible to hear the loco. Still, I'm liking this video, seeing a goodly number of locos in steam at a roundhouse is wonderful, thanks.

    • @willybillybob3
      @willybillybob3 Před 8 lety

      It's simply a courtesy to the automobiles that they share their tracks with. I'm sure you'd rather hear some whistle blowing than get to a crossing without mechanical arms and get hit.

    • @silverstatehighiron
      @silverstatehighiron Před 7 lety

      That's a really good question. There are only 4 or 5 SP Daylight coaches that I know of that are still being used on 4449 trips. Not sure where the ones from the 80's and 90's went.

    I don't think it's a great idea that people are hanging out of the baggage cars and other doorways as the train is passing at speed. Just one person gets injured or killed and they'll stop doing these runs.

    Why do American locomotives have that stupid noisy bell?

    • @robertshawiii4117
      @robertshawiii4117 Před 7 lety

      To warn people that the monster is on the move. Note that you dont hear much when the engine is drifting. ALL locomotives, diesel, electric or steam have bells to warn of danger.
