- In this video I will show how to install a lunchbox locker from start to finish in a Dana 30 front axle. This installation process is identical to most axles and across most jeeps. If you have any other questions please comment below, I would be happy to help.

sounds like its almost time for timing chain and tensioner on that 4.0, next vid?
Its actually the lifters that are making the ticking that noise. The noise goes away after a couple minutes from a cold start. It may be a future video on rebuilding an entire engine which I have plans for next summer.
take it from an old guy....lol.....Marvel mystery oil, a full bottle. then change oil after 2 to 4 weeks. Will also free up chain tensioner. Been working on those 4.0's since they switched over from the 258, and i know every sound they make
matt sez Yeah I've used that stuff in my silver jeep because I thought it would free up a sticky lifter but I guess it's just worn out. Plus it has 245k on the clock. Haven't done anything to the red one though. The sound seems to becoming from the rear of the engine and not where the timing chain is. But I guess it don't hurt to try that stuff out.
Good video, I did notice the many "Go Ahead's" but not too bad.
BAHAHA! I love the silent "shut the fuck up!" at 6:38. 😆
Good job putting the tires under the frame rails. Every person I see never does that and doesn't realize how easy a vehicle can come off of the jack stands. Having the wheels there could save your life.
For sure I do it all the time.
Jason Jaeger I laughed when he did that. Wouldn't help one bit. His fount axle would hit the ground and never come close to touching the tires.
Ellis 4.8 If anything it gets it out of the way so I'm not tripping on them.
OutJeeping Makes sense. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude. Good vid tho.
Ellis 4.8 Of a vehicle with the wheels off fell on me I'd rather have the 9-10" clearance from the rim than 2-3" without it. Obviously the vehicle would crush you, it's simply an extra safety precaution. Was taught that when I was a kid in auto shop. Only thing I learned from the shitty class, knew the rest already.
Dont even have a jeep and this was still a very entertaining how to. Very well edited and described as well. Good job man
Very clear and excellent step by step. Better than most CZcamsrs with several hundred thousand subscribers. Don’t let the trolls get you down with the “go ahead” I didn’t even notice until reading the comments.
Phil Bar
I liked it and I don’t even have a Jeep, this popped up in my feed for whatever reason.
I’ll go ahead and say I chuckled at the comments , but the vid was great!
Yea don’t let the go aheaders get ya down!!
I agree.... easy listening and informative.
I agree. Good presentation and good information here.
It doesn't make them trolls, just because they noticed something and commented.
How could you not notice, unless controlled substances were involved?
While watching this on my phone I thought to myself that this is so cool seeing the younger generation wrenching on their vehicles instead of watching their phone lol. Job well done ! Keep it up 👍🇺🇸👍
LMAO..as we are watching our phones and working on our rigs!
Very informative and straight forward.
One of the best "how to" videos I've seen. Kudos, bud.
I don’t have any type of four wheel drive vehicle and somehow I ended up here. That said, it’s a shame there aren’t many channels as clear and to the point with an install as this one is. At least for this video. Damn good video. 👍🏼
This is by far my favorite type of locker
This was a very clear explanation. Excellent install guide. Thanks mate!
Best video I’ve seen in a long time. Amazing someone your age has the skill set that you have. Keep up the work
You make it look so easy. Very informative and detailed. It’s lighting a fire under me to work on my old Jeep.
I have lunchbox lockers on the front of my 74 CJ5 and Detroit lockers on the back. You did a great job explaining the installation. Thanks!
Absolutely the best tutorial on lunchbox lockers.
Thank you.
Nice work! Very detailed and consistent. This encourages and inspires DIYers like myself and others. Thank for this video!👍
Your a natural person for describing how to do things the right way. You made your install seem so easy that I felt at age of 71 I could even go back to working on vehicles. As for the tires and what a few are saying your so right there are out of your way which leaves more room to work. Very nice video and you could be an auto shop teacher teaching anyone how to safely work on vehicles. Very clear presentation I mean this in the most positive way possible I wish I had found your channel a long time ago. Your one of the best on CZcams that I have seen Thank You,Cheers
Thanks for the support!
Don't listen to the trolls that probably don't even know how to change their own oil. Great tutorial, very informative and detailed. +1 on the tires under the frame, I see way too many people who don't even use jack stands or anything just have their 6000lb truck balanced on a 20 year old jack and laying under it. Someone get this guy 100k subs.
.'
Excellent job of explaining the process. No flowered up conversation just step by step instructions. Thanks for the video. I will be watching your other videos as well.
Thank you. Only person to specify a torque
Barricade garage
Awesome video! I’ve heard of lunchbox lockers but never knew what they looked like or what they actually did. Great job on the explanation!
Great install video very detailed. Ive had lokka locker in for about 4 years now in my daily and love it. Highly recommend it.
great video !!! I have one in my Cherokee for three years now and no problems.
Great video. Very direct and to the point.
Great video! Straight and to the point, every step nice job. Lockers are expensive when a shop does it. Best mod ever if you are serious and don't wanna get stuck.
Perfectly clear and concise. Great video!
Excellent instructional video! I honestly didn’t even notice the “go ahead” until I went back for the second time.
OOOOOOOH! I finally get exactly how those lockers work. Neato
You gotta keep this videos coming bro..the best and most clear at explaining.👌👌
Just bought a 2001 TJ and was contemplating about a lunchbox locker in the front. After watching this I have decided to do it. Kudos to an excellent how to video. Job well done.
Well done video, thanks...I'm researching installing a lunchbox locker for my 2000 Xterra and your video is the best I've come across so far, good job
Say “go ahead” all you want! Just be you, that’s why all this CZcams stuff works....
Austin, don't change the way you explain things, your videos are perfect. Everyone has their own cliches, they just don't realize it unless they are recorded. You are a good teacher and we appreciate your work.
Great install very thorough I have an Aussie in my JK in the rear it works amazing
The Bearded Jeeper what the noise is click hard when you turn o is no noise ?
Nelson Hernandez you hear a slight clicking when turning as your locker ratchets so you can have your wheels spin at different speeds to make a turn
Great step by step instructions. Clear and right on point. Bonus for me was not a single mention of like and subscribe. Your content itself says it. Thank you and I’m now a subscriber.
Helped me a ton. I’m getting an XJ soon so this helps me see some upgrade ideas.
I see you use Fuel impacts. You are a good person. Looking forward to more of your very detailed videos.
I'm going to "go ahead" and do this tomorrow to my XJ, so I'm going to go ahead and say Thanks for the great video! Very helpful.
Great video, this is extremely easy to follow along with and could easily be playing while doing the install. Not very hard to do, just time consuming and just have to pay attention to where all the shims go and to not drop any of the gears on the floor and damage them. These lunchbox lockers are a great affordable alternative for many people and can typically be done in the driveway or garage at home without any special tools.
Putting a lunchbox in my 97 zj thankyou for this video very relaxed on the process now your a great teacher👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Dude... Your vid is making want to give it a shot
Michael Garcia Do it!!!
I'd like it if you would go ahead and make more videos dude. That's was nicely done and very informative.
Brilliant video, not sure how I haven't come across it before when researching D30 lockers. My lokka just arrived in the mail today and after watching your video i'm feeling confident enough to attack it myself. Thanks mate, keep up the good videos.
Half way through my spartan locker install. Your video is great man! Tons of help! Keep up the good work
it really helps to either steam clean or hose off the underside and drain gear oil the night before , but hey great video.
So....don't go mudding the day before the install LOL.
great vid man.
This is gona be a life saver when I'm done painting my YJ this spring. Lockers before lights and lifts!
Perfect video straight to the point and easy to follow
Real nice informative video bud...
Dude. Outstanding video. Maybe add in what kind of grease and lube you run but very comprehensive other than that. Thanks for the lesson
Was i tripping or did it come out a aerosol can?
@@stevewalker412 that is brake cleaner, which is not a lubricant.
just don't use black gear oil,at least 10 years old,the same way it came out lol
Man great job you are a natural at doing detailed yet simple to understand videos!
Good simple to follow video well presented with no cursing well done.
i heard the way you pronounced your "O" s (in below and go) and i KNEW you were a fellow Wisconsinite!
You betcha bud!
Keep her movinggg👍👍
The 4 small pins with the end nipple that connects to the springs should be facing the springs and not the hole it went into. The reason for this is to prevent the springs from popping off. Great video easy step by step. Thanks!
Yeah the nipple does face the spring in the video. You just need to make sure to face the nipple down in the slotted holes so when you put the cam gears together you can slide the pins into the other opposite cam gears. Thanks for the support!
great job mate. I'd watched other vids of this and had decided it was out of my league to do it - was resigned to sending the car into the shop to get it done. I'm inspired now to do it myself - thanks!
In 1995 mechanic buddy of mine and I put a PowerTracx Lock Right Locker in my 93 Toyota 2wd Extra Cab, with no other major models, just the most aggressive snow tires I could find on the stock 14 inch wheels. That Lock Right made it possible for my little 2wd Toy on 205/75-14's to be the only 2wd among 4wd's under it's own power at parties in the woods, on goat trails up fairly steep hills, roads closed dew to mud caused by spring rains and logging operations and with 300 pounds of sand in the back, countless places in snow deep enough to make it hard to open the doors. Of course driving it like I stole it played a part too. Every vehicle should have a locking differential of some kind from the factory.
Lmao 6:38 I heard that! Great video bro
I think the knocking during every turn would drive me up a wall, prefer a truetrac or a e-locker instead. Still a cool concept
I put two Lock-Right's in both axles of my Chevy 4X4 and I can hardly hear the clicking, even with the radio off. They do, however, sometimes (once or twice a year) make a very loud BANG when going straight. Sounds like a floor jack is sliding forward under heavy braking and slamming into the back of the cab. For this reason, I installed a TrueTrac in my newer Chevy 4X4. It is completely silent and not that much more costly.
Excellent video. One of the best I have seen on CZcams! Thanks for sharing.
Great job and explanation and thank you for putting your wheels under the frame rails for safety.
I played a drinking game while watching this. Everytime he said "go ahead" I had a shot. I was on the floor before it was 1/2 installed.
1QKGLH Light weight lol
Haha. I knew someone would get me on that.
On the floor after two shots, shame on you drone. Come on plug ya self in tidy up and get with the program.
Good video. However, go ahead and never suggest to "grind a shim" to get the desired gap. Just go ahead and buy the correct shims needed. If you do go ahead and grind a shim you will never get it anywhere close to a consistent thickness and it will just be a problem. If you take the time to do it, then do it right.
So when I put shims threw a thickness grinder to take off 0.1/1000 of an inch.. I'm not doing it right?
I think I might have a thickness grinder laying around in my kitchen somewhere..
Ill be doing this in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the video!
Nice step by step instructional video mate. Cheers for sharing.
Next time "go ahead" pressure wash everything so you don't get grit falling all into your pliance.
HOG RUSH Nice vocabulary 1puglife.
alright once you've gone ahead and started filming your youtube video you want to go ahead and make sure that you don't say go ahead and make sure every 5 seconds. Haha, just kidding, good video very helpful!
Good job!! I love negative comments: you never see "Their" video. You showed the complete job. Nice!
I love learning something new every day. Good video.
So it is not engaged in two wheel drive? Only when you lock it in four wheel drive???
When power is given to the pinion it locks it up, so yes.
Would this locker be a bad Idea for a Allwgheel drive and Highway driving?
Cheap Ass Jew You don't want a lunch box locker for a AWD it's a recipe for disaster. You can highway drive with the locker but as long as it's 4x4.
I nearly died laughing, top quality name
OutJeeping Can you make a video explaining why you can not use a lunchbox locker in an AWD vehicle. Does that include any automatic locker ex. Detroit? My Grand Cherokee is AWD. Would that mean I would have to change my transfer case?
I installed Lokka Lockers front and rear in my 4x4 Isuzu pickup truck years ago. They work great.
Excellent video. I've used the Detroit ez locker which looks pretty much identical to this one. Great for people on a budget.
How many times can you say "we're going to go ahead "?
I know lol, I mentioned it in the description.
Can you not go ahead and say the word ahead
Anyone else here the quit words " shut the fuck up"? Haha
LLY Project lol when you have idiot friends.
Great how to video! A front locker is a great way to go for a daily driver.
You did one amazing job explaining and loved it!! Great job brother!!
I put an Aussie Locker in my '97 TJ years ago. It really made a difference off road. The only downfall was if I had a tight turn while in 4 WD it was hard to turn. Great video.
Awesome video, you taught me so much about a jeep frond end, thank you 🙃
Nice job you made it look easy and thanks for not having music playing all the time like so many do.
Thanks for taking the time, well done
Just used this video to install mine! Worked out perfectly w no problems
Great video! I'm in the process if buying my first xj. I like these videos that help me with full detail in doing a job correctly.
So that’s the “lunch box locker” been thinking about one for a few years for my 77 blazer. Keep up the detailed vids!
Excellent instructional video . Straight forward and done right .
👍👍
One of the very best how to videos I have ever seen. Clear speaking, detailed down to torque specs and very complete. You are better than any on youtube and should have credit and be doing this for manufactures. Not sure if they make this locker for a Jeep GC WK but I'm wanting something because I dont have QD II.
Great instrutonal video, would feel comfortable to do it myself now
Neat trick with getting the hub out, thanks man!
really great instructional video, appreciate the end where you turn the wheels to show what exactly is going on.
Dude, Great video! Nice camera work. your skill is apparent. Thanks for taking the time to do this. it's very helpful.
Nice video...now I'm going to go ahead and buy two lockers for my Jeep.
Another great video with very clear step by step explanation.
Great how to video. I don't even own a jeep, but I enjoyed watching. Thanks
Excellent video!!! Thanks so much for posting!
Great detailed explanation, this is very helpful for people that are capable but never done it before, cheers
Well done video. I learned how to do it properly, and quickly. Thanks for the video
Fantastic video, clearly explained and demonstrated. Subbed!
Excellent how too!
Subscribed
I have always thought about doing this, thanks for making me want to do it more
Again, very informative. Thanks. You do a great job with these.
Great video. Really enjoyed watching.
This guy’s a natural.
Great job, well explained and understandable. Glad to see a young man doing something besides playing video games.
You did a helluva job with this video! NICE
This is probably the best how to video I've have ever seen on CZcams. Great job.
