Nice review...So many reviewers make such a HUGE deal about how much "flex" there is in the lid is on this laptop...And it's fair to point that out, but if it doesn't cause any problems then point it out and then move on, as you did. And as you noted this Laptop meets MIL standards meaning it's tough. Thank you for handling this in a fair and responsible way and for doing such a thorough and balanced review. I wish other reviewers would make note of how you handled this issue. Thanks. You got my like and sub for this review alone.
Today bought LG gram 17 Intel Evo Platform Laptop - 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1195G7 - 2560 x 1600 - 32G - 1TB - Windows 11, McAfee Total Protection, from Costco for $ 1,528.18 delivered. Thanks for the great review.
I bought a gram about 5 years ago and loved it. It was super light, great screen and sound and super light. The issue is that the wifi for some reason stopped working. It could detect the wifi network but would stop connecting to the internet after a while, even after deleting and re-installing the driver. Also, one of the screen hinges broke and, while the screen still worked, the screen was no longer aligned with the body and some wires were sticking out. Wish I could fix it, but not sure where to send it for repair. Am tempted to replace it with another LG Gram like the 17", but I have a feeling the flimsy feel might result in it breaking again, which, for its price range, is a serious consideration.
Agreed. I bought the Gram 17 when it was released in the US at the beginning of 2019 (i7-8565U). I use it with Fedora Workstation, still a great laptop after all these years. Right now I'm looking to replace it and considering a MacBook Pro 16 just because of the audio benefits (I play guitar) and I'm using my SFF iTX that I really only game on (NZXT H1V2, 5600X, 3080) for that right now and would rather use a laptop so I can get dual display only have room for 1 x 27" monitor but I can easily use a 16/17" laptop below it. I know niche asks but I don't want windows on my laptop. Decisions... I could keep using my gaming desktop for audio work but i'd rather just have the laptop pull double dev and audio work and the Mac with it's BSD roots fits my jam. (WSL2 is great but it's not quite good enough for me..). So it's either another Linux laptop or a Mac. Such a hard choice, I guess spoiled by choices though. :) I also agree on the construction / materials angle. The magnesium alloy "seems" plastic-like for sure, but it's extremely durable. My Gram 17 still looks like the day I bought it except for a palm discoloration on the left hand palm area. Though my company-issued 2019 MacBook Pro 16 has the SAME problem, so aluminum uni-body is also susceptible to the same.
If you bought it 5 years ago assuming it's the 2018 model then I would highly recommend upgrading as the materials have greatly improved. You'll spend half as much fixing those issue on your older model.
@@odie5268 Hi! Thank you for your comments. Which colour is your LG? A friend of mine also has the same problem with palm discoloration, because his computer is gray. How would you describe the speakers?
@@user_es1 I typically do not use the speakers on any laptop, including my macbook pros. But they don't even hold a candle to Apple's mastery in this area. They are not great, but that's probably relative to your expectations. I'd classify them in the "use headphones" class of quality.

They need to stop pretending 16-inch laptops are a suitable replacement for 17-inch ones. A smaller screen is not an upgrade. Glad LG isn’t following HP and Lenovo’s stupid footsteps.

Reviewers have ingrained to us that heavy means premium. If you come out with a material more durable than metal, reviewers will complain to no end if it’s lighter than metal. Heavy aluminum and stainless laptops and electronics dent like crazy but reviewers will fawn over how heavy and premium they feel. I can’t even use the iPhone 13 Pro comfortably because Apple decided to make it out of super heavy stainless steel instead of aluminum like the lower end iPhones. It’s heavy and cramps my hand.
Too expensive..there are better ones much and much cheaper than this. Years ago this price tag was acceptable but nowadays price like this don't make sense.

I checked out the gram at a Costco last night and it feels like a plastic toy computer. Given the weight and performace specs, I just can't justify buying something for 1000 + that feels like that. Basecailly it feels like the PC parts held together by a plastic box.
