Canon 6D Review - After 6 Years of Ownership

- Today I review the Canon 6D DSLR. This camera is about 7 years old, but still packs a punch when it comes to Photography. For video, not so much. In this video I talk about my experiences and thoughts about this camera and how I plan to use it going forward.

Going through my old DSLR photos dating back to 2004-5, I realize I shot some of my best photos on those old 6MP cameras. And I’ve never done anything with them that would merit needing more than 6MP.
I got a chance to work with a few 6D bodies a few years ago at my old employer. Looking back on those photos, the quality was great. Thinking of picking one up myself for photography. I’ve never owned a full frame DSLR and always wanted one. At around $500 the price is right these days.
People act like these cameras lose quality over time just because new cameras come out. IMO, if pros were shooting on it a decade ago there’re little reason a pro can’t shoot on it today and get wonderful quality. Be it a fifty year old film camera or fifteen year old DSLR.
I’ve had the 6D since 2012 and gave mine to my daughter when I upgraded to the 5Dsr. Since she moved to mirrorless, I have my old 6D back and strangely, I LOVE IT!
Resolution isn’t high, but this thing is just so nice to use, still has amazing low-light image quality and is so light for travel.
I actually use it more than my 5Dsr and really see no reason to upgrade either.
Your client can't tell the difference between a picture shot on a $3000 vrs $1000 dollar camera. Only a photographer can tell.

Even after all these years my 6D makes beautiful photographs. If you are good enough you can hang prints from this camera on a wall and sell them. It's video specs might have long been surpassed but honestly 1080 with a good lens is more than enough.
I've got several canvas prints hanging in my house. Gotten tons of amazing photos out of it.
At the time, the 6D sensor had better ISO performance and lower light sensitivity than the 5Diii.
I just bought a 6d for 500 canadian and it only has 4,000 actuations. Great buy 🔥
I still think DSLR should always be photography first. I've never touched video with DSLR, it's just not the point of them. Not only is the 6d still relevant today, for photography it still exceeds many cameras out there. The move to mirrorless at the moment really is a bit pointless. There is no quality gain, there just isn't. Sure if you go top of the line, but if you go top of the line for DSLR, it'll be the same outcome. Mirrorless is a gimmick at the moment, in the future it won't be, for now if your an actual photographer, buy a body that does what you need, spend the money on good glass and just learn how to take a good photo
I just picked up a 6d after selling my old one years ago. But I can't agree with your statement. Mirrorless is not a gimmick, have you ever owned one?
Being able to use your LCD screen to frame and focus your shot, having many focus points instead of having to focus and recompose, eye autofocus, to name a few are great features. I'll admit they aren't needed if you know what you're doing, but far from gimmicky.
I had an a7iii years ago as well. That's when my eyes were opened. I sold all my gear, but lately I've had a desire to do photography again as a hobby. The 6d was an easy sell for me at the price / value point. Although I miss those features I can still do what I need to albeit without as much ease.
@@PLEDGE2WS777 does the 6d pair well with the sigma 85 1.4, considering its focus can be a little lose when shooting at 1.4
@@philipquaicoe9071 I really couldn't say due to the fact that I've never owned a sigma 85.
However I've heard that sigma lenses on dslr's have back focusing issues for some reason.

My 6D will continue on great. I love this camera.
THIS CAMERA CAN BE USED FOR VIDEO NOW. The age and outdated specs have nothing to do with it. I WORK WITH PEOPLE WITH A BLACKMAGIC CAMERA AND RED THAT CANT SHOOT FOR SH*T. This camera is more than enough for a short film. If you know how to upscale CORRECTLY and shoot in 24fps and You know Post Profi well, there is nothing else you need. I’m curious to know why people say cameras like these are outdated. Give a Professional this camera Today and see what he does with it.
Would it be wise to buy this camera for 260 dollars? It doesn't have autofocus during video right, would this cause issues?
Exactly... This guy keeps talking shit about the video aspect because he's simply not a good videographer
hi, i love this camera. i got it for 4 years now. i own a r6 5dc too. but for the most times it is enough for taking great pictures. stay save
6d is great camera for photography and video. you don't need fancy expensive camera's to create . people should be investing more time learning photography fundamentals. if people can use a t2i to make short films or movies any cameras would do great.

What are the newer cameras that have the exact capabilities as the 6D and more?
I’ve had my 6D for about a year now and I really like the low light capabilities. I’m thinking of buying the EOS R. Do you think I’ll have similar or better low light capabilities?
The low light capabilities of the eos r compared to the 6d isn’t that great, it’s around 3k iso whereas the 6d is at 2k iso, now when it comes to Af the eos r is definitely a major improvement. If you have the money go for it.
how do you get so much pleasing colors with R6, cause everybody else who are making videos with R6 have orange tint. Which profile you are using, or is it C log?
I come from a Canon 1200D or a Rebel T5 to be more specific and I would like to get a new camera but I don't know if choosing Canon 6D or Canon M50 helps!
Same. I just found a good deal on the 6D for $300 on fb marketplace. I’m excited to try it out and sell my t5.
You will have better lens choices with the EF mount.

Talk about crappy you tube talking head video , made me cringe . Really it did , you can make this video in 56K aint nothing changed , Video is hard , demanding , expensive , no working around that . Or it takes a lot of effort , hence everyone runs talking 4K head , that is about as much as you can do financially on a small channel , but you cant do much more even on bigger channel and they dont , mostly , some do indeed , some make Cinema stuff but it takes them 6 months for production .Its just how it is . So i say 6D , more then enough
