My rescue cat came to me at 7 yrs old. She was an indoor/outdoor catwith plenty of food but sporadic physical affection. She hates to be picked up, hisses when her claws are trimmed but loves to rub her head all over my back, lifts her tail and perks the ears when i say her name. Lets me kiss her head and when she spreads in her back on the floor she looks at me and thumps the tail until i kiss her belly. Then she stretches on one side, rolls to the other and then back to her back and belly kissing. Rarely will she curl up with me, she will go under the covers and snooze under my bent knees and flat feet tent. She will sometimes sleep beside me on a pillow. The trick with an older cat is their personality and habits are already defined. To stop her scratching a chair i duct taped the areas she was going for and bought a throw with fringe. Worked like a charm. She does use the scratch pads more often. We just had to learn to listen to each other and a year and a half later we're doing just fine. 😸🎉

My cat will lie with me for petting, with loud purring and rolling over on her back for tummy rubs. When she is done with me the tail starts thumping and she will move away. Any further contact will result in a glare and a swat. She is truly a Jeckyl and Hyde cat. She will sleep with me at night then in the morning I never know what I'm going to get: a pur or a swat! I do get head buts and eye kisses, so I guess she's just the way she is. 😸❤

My cat Sid is moody like that too. He will wake me up in the morning by meowing and purrs and lays on my chest. After much ear and face rubs he will slowly start gently biting. At first. Then he decides to play and get more bitey. Then I tell him he can get off me and get off the bed too...then he's all trying to be cute because he wants some food before I leave for work...

Cat distribution system randomly sent a 8-9 month old, orange boi, to wander into our house last week. Because he’s still a kitten, he’s affectionate. Because he’s like a 5 year old, he’s stubborn. And whoever had him first allowed him to be on all their furniture, because we can’t get him to stop jumping on everything. He’s starting to bite my feet at night, too. So I have to grab his scruff and put him back in the laundry room to calm his aggressive play.
He still hangs out with us, but we’re reprimanding him so much, he’s starting to get frustrated. We haven’t got a chance to get a cat tree, but he’s got a scratcher. We need better toys, too. It’s tough when suddenly you get a young, stubborn cat you weren’t ready for!

We have another 6 months or so for this adolescent phase before he calms down, too! He’s probably going to spend a lot of time in the laundry room! 😹 I’m kidding. The vet says I need to keep him indoors for a month because of a test they need to run as a stray. After that, he’ll be out on a leash, if he lets us put it on him, anyway! Otherwise, he WILL be stuck in there.

You should watch Jackson Galaxy. The cat daddy. Or his show "My Cat From H3ll". I think it would help. You cant punish or reprimand a cat, it does nothing. Sounds like you need a cat tower in the area he scratches most and in front of a window is best. As for attacking your feet it sounds like you need some of the toys on a stick.. your cat needs a human on the other side of the toy. Mimick a bird or a snake with it. I promise these tips should correct your concerns. Cats need to play every day. If you dont have a ton of time you should get your cat a playful friend. 2 cats are easier than 1 and they do best in pairs or more.

He's not a dog, dummy. You can't treat him like one.

The tail flicking can also be a sign of boredom. I find a vigorous play time, such as throwing a ball and chasing it. Unfortunatly I only have one so she needs extra attention. And many different games.

My cat would gently boop my nose while I was sleeping. I guess I was snoring.

2 nights ago, my kittie licked my nose and left eye lid when I was trying to go to sleep.
Other than that, she does what she wants, where I'm not a "helicopter parent".

When I lived with a roommate, my cats despised her. One time, Mina was napping on my belly in my bed when my roommate opened the front door. Mina woke up, growled, jumped off of me, and hid under the bed.
After awhile I'd get the urge to do that around my roommate too >.>
