- 252hp in a hatchback designed for city use. It's an extreme car the A1 quattro. Just 333 are being built. We went to Sweden to drive it on a lake. Which told us very little about the car, but it looked beautiful. And we got a ride with Stig Blomqvist in a Sport Quattro. This is a Chris Harris home movie...

I don't even care about this car, but since Chris is doing the review - I'm watching.
This reminds me of taking my old 100Q out during winter in the snow belt in NE Ohio. The quattro and/or ABS system was SO noisy, but the quattro system, literally, saved my life on more than one occasion. Once, in the snow in a somewhat remote area, I found myself sliding while creeping around a corner at slow speed with two wheels in the grass and two on an icy road, risen about 35ft. above a ravine, when the Quattro system really kicked in and kept me planted. 10 years later, it's still vivid.

Great video chris! Would you be able to one day post a video with different cameras on your foot work and hands on a track day to see what really goes on. There was a moment in the vid where the car sliding, and your control of the wheel looked incredible
Best ending ever.
I love the shots from 8:14 - 8:29 where the camera is outside the car but you can still see Chris at the wheel. It's interesting to compare steering angle with the direction of the car (probably more relavent on ice and when Chis is going sideways, so all the time).

If I'm not mistaking, Haldex is also used in Volvo's AWD system. Though good and mostly safe indeed, it can be configured to sent more power to the back, as it was in the old R-cars.

Thank you Audi for making this car and damn you for making so few. Further more they make this and not the concept Sport Quattro that they reviled a few years back. The idle Qattro toy a sexy small coupe with 4wd and a longitudinal mounted 5 banger. Well its in the true Audi tradition, make a very limited number of the cars that people actually want.

@sspope Quattro is a brand name, it does not refer specifically to the torsen type AWD system as most people seem to think. Hence, they can apply it as they like, and have done with the 2.0L A4s and A3s, which use Haldex. And as for Haldex systems not being able to generate oversteer, well my V70R begs to differ.

@sspope After some Googling, I found that some Audis don't even use Haldex. They use a different system all together. It's called a BorgWarner system.

i have just been icedriving in sweden with icedriver..loved it,and what made it better was it was at petter solbergs!!!so chris why have you left evo?and who's the better driver?you barker or tricky?lol...have a look at my ruf video ...think you might enjoy..and see a much younger barker...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it matters.
The only reason I don't see why the A1 can't kick its tail out on a normal road because of it's front wheel bias when it comes to power delivery. I feel like there is really no difference in what kind of AWD system you have as long as majority of the power is sent to the back, allowing you to powerslide.
@jakobkobban weight shift in corners leting you mat the accelerator and controll grip through weight shift. (HIGHLY usefull in FWD cars)

@redliner90x They did not go through the Quattro division, but they put the badges on there to give it the allusion of it being a "higher performance" car. Quattro is trademarked for different uses so they don't need to go through Quattro gmbh to use it. It is very confusing and I'm not entirely sure why they put it there in the first place, it just causes confusion.

i thought the A1 Quattro will come with that fancy disc-shape white rims from the concept.
They show it on snow and ice because only there it is fun to drive. I had a lot of fun in an 10 year old skoda oktavia with the same four wheel drive on snow. But not on a normal street :-(
i know this idea is bonkers as these are two uterly different worlds but think for a second: Top Gear + Chris Harris :) wonder how it would look like ;)

@AnonymoussourceL0L That doesn't matter. BorgWarner makes the Haldex AWD systems under a license agreement, but it's basically the same thing.
