Great review, on a great little car, that must have cost Audi an absolute bomb to develop. With only 333 cars built in total, it’s easy to see why they used the R&D on the S1 to recoup some of their cash. It’s a great pity those stunning wheels have never been made available for us mere mortals to build RHD tribute cars from 3 door S1’s which are a little more accessible & affordable.
The official line in that nothing is planned but if you look at the old generation it took 3-4 years for S1 to surface so you never know - basically "never say never" :)
Yeah, half of me wishes that I should have got an S1 as I have not seen that many around (I live nearby in Wolverhampton) whereas S3s seem to have become quite popular!! Many good wishes to you.
All left-hand cars got a big dead pedal, and the accelerator pedal is so close to the dash so we can rest our right leg against the dash on longer journeys.
Great video Andrew mate, you certainly know your stuff. I’m of the same generation as you and absolutely love my S1. Such a hoot to drive and refinement is superb. Interesting to see how the A1 Quattro compares 👍
Thanks Simon! The brief acquaintance with the A1 quattro hasn't made me want to buy one but it's reminded me how much I enjoyed the S1. There are bigger, faster cars but there is something special about AWD, compact dimensions and a good slug of power. Enjoy it 👍

Hi Darren. Well spotted re the A2! That car has been around, originally owned by Avon Cosmetics, then at end of lease it joined the Audi UK chauffeuring fleet for a few years before becoming a heritage press fleet car since around 2009 www.parkers.co.uk/audi/a2/ Just 36,000 miles on the clock (1.4 TDI 75 SE). Yes I was in MK, test drive was east of MK mainly, some good roads out there.
A great history to the A2 Andrew, thanks for sharing the detail. About 1200 more miles on the clock than mine but for a TDI this one isn't run in as yet. If you ever need a wing-man to hold a camera, I live in MK... ;)
Hi Graham. R8 GT video would be good and is a distinct possibility. Only issue is that the Audi UK R8 GT coupe is up for sale (£100k) but luckily they have a Spyder which isn't going anywhere. The plan is to compare it to my V8 so it forms part of the Project R8, no idea when though but watch this space 👍

That's a very kind offer Carl. I do have a request in to drive a B5 RS4 but not sure if and when it will come as me and those cars go way back so I could basically do a video with zero research which would make a nice change!
I agree it's only going to be appreciated by a select few but in the metal it drips with attitude. Hopefully videos like this will raise awareness as we could do with some more of this sort of special stuff from Audi. Can't think of anything recent this bespoke. Even R8 RWS was three times the volume at 999. Thanks for commenting. :)

What a great fun car - very collectible with so few built however I’d be happy with an S1 as also very tuneable - shame no new S1 for latest A1

Thanks for that one, really enjoyed it. I had a Black Edition A1 with the 185ps engine. Had some decent performance too - then I bought an S3.....👍🏼
Hi ian taf - clearly an Audi fan then! Well if you ever get bored of your S3, make sure try an S1 as it's a good mix of your A1 and the S3 :)

I’d love a little APR tuned S1. Little hatchbacks are growing on me.
Hi Davon, that would be a very serious car, just needs an upgraded clutch but I think it would be worth it as they are so much fun :)
